  1. I go today to the 2nd seminar before my initial consultation with Dr. T. My appointment is on the 29th with him. There are some things that I am really nervous about. Specifically, chances of an open vs. laparoscopic surgery, bruising/scaring and above all DEATH. I have a 18 month now at home and he is my life. the thing i fear the most is leaving him without a dad. Iroically much the same reason I am pursuing the surgery. Anybody have any problems with the aformentioned, or ask how many patients have died in surgery with Dr. T. I'll be honest - I was in somalia and i was not nearly as nervous about being there as I am having the surgery. How have you all coped with these feelings?
  2. Guys - haven't been around on the board for a couple months and it shows. I have gained 6 lbs back and have come to the conclusion that I cannot do this without a support group. Man I feel like such a pussy for even saying that. Anyway - today is a new day and I am looking to get back on track. Anyone have any suggestions or comments on how they have stayed on track or kept the motivation going. Please advise as I need help. scott:help:
  3. Hey guys - not sure if i pb'd or slimed as this is my first experience with this. I wasn't paying attention and swallowed too big of a bite and it got stuck. I felt like i was going to die. But remembering what others have said i chose not to panic and got up and started walking around. Not wanting to puke in public i made my way to a bathroom where i just stood there expecting it to come up. But it did not,. It jsut sat there and i started having to spit because i was filling up with saliva. a few clearings of my throat the pressure/stuckness seemed to pass. nothing came up but spit but i am worried a little about it. Any help will do.
  4. I just came across this thread as i have been gone for sometime now but holy smokes how come i have never met women like you earlier in life. One post here mentioned a true fact about head - not all of it is good. for me at least when i get it - i want a mixture of things but it definitely has to be wet. i like it to be teased and licked as well as the whole thing going in. anyway hope i am not being too forward with this.... but I don't just like to be on the receiving end - I like to reciprocate. I personally love to go down on a woman just as much as I like to receive it. To quote a friend sorry if it is a little crass but... " i don't come up until my face is glazed over like a krispy kreme donut" there is something totally hot about making a woman orgasm by going down on her.

    Learning to be this size...

man i dont know how you guys do it. I am down 55lbs in 5 months and i can go weeks without dropping a lb and then boom 5. What is the secret? I have had 5 fills and never hungry but still eat albeit a lot healthier and much smaller portions. What i dont get is that my dr made it seem like i should only be able to eat a couple oz of food. I could eat a porter house if i wanted to but i am not hungry nor do i want to gorge. I work out between 3-5 days a week. I just don't get why I can't drop faster. My dr doesn't think it is a worry because i am on track for 2 lbs a week but man i want it to come off faster. Guys please share your daily routines including menus etc.</p>
  6. Diane - who was your surgeon? whomever it was did an unbelievable job. A lot of other surgeries i have seen on this and other board look like hack jobs. To date only 2 including Julies and one other have been equally as good as yours. I am really impressed at how flat your tummy has become and that the stretchmarks have disappeared. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Please pass along the surgeon info as I will certainly be needing ps eventually and I want to have someone who does equally as nice of a job. Congrats

    Drinking and the band

I work in a brewery so my job is to drink (well not really Taste is a better discription). So yes you can drink with the band. The issue with drinking is moderation. Since it is a liquid calorie you don't feel full like you would if you were eating a solid protien. The liquid passes straight through to your lower stomach. Subsequently you can drink whatever you want. Albiet some folks have issues with carbonation. That being said - my dr said the target caloric intake for me should be 1200 calories or less a day. if you can have a beer or a glass of wine in that and hit all your protien requirements, no problem. For me it is next to impossible to hit under 1200 calories a day on my present restriction and not feel hungry. At about 1350 i am not feeling any hunger pains. Still a far cry from the 6000 i was used to eating. so after all that - moderation is the key - have one not 6 in a day and you will be fine. But always keep in the back of your mind that liquid calories (unless a low cal protien shake) are your enemy. (this also includes ice cream, shakes etc). i have included a link to a website with a ton of calories for beers. check it out. the brewery i work for produces 4 beer (3 of them contract brewed) but on average our amber is about 140 calories for a 12oz bottle. Back from extended absence

Thanks Chris - no I think that is the biggest thing - I have not been exercising at all. period. I am also falling into old habits of eating crap. I plan on going to the gym tonight so hopefully i will keep that plan. i got my second fill a couple weeks back and i feel restriction - sometimes things get stuck which sucks terribly. However it is really strange - i will feel full after a couple bites and then i can actually feel all the food pass through the band and i can eat more. so inevitably i do. I can still eat pretty much anything except on some occasions i cannot tollerate bread, and since my second fill cannot eat a tortilla wrap. The dr wont give me another fill till after thanksgiving so i suppose i am on my own till then. thanks for the words of encouragement.

    help hiatal hernia

mine was large - that is all i know. I had no idea until my ugi that i even had it. No I was in the hospital on a thursday - was supposed to be released the next day but they thought i had a Pulmonary embolism because i was having chest pains (false alarm) but they kept me over night. Went home saturday morning and was back at work (desk job) monday. was a bit too soon so i worked from home for a couple days and then was back by thursday.

    help hiatal hernia

i had a large hiatal hernia prior to my surgery - my dr fixed it before placing the band. A hiatal hernia is your stomach migrating up through your diaphragm. My dr pulled it back through and put a gortex patch around the area it goes through in the diaphragm. Easy Peasy. I have no idea why a gastric bypass surgery would be recomended when the dr would have to repair the hernia anyway.
  12. Guys - do any of you who have lost a lot of weight wear compression shirts? Between the sagging skin and the man boobs - I am feeling more self consious now than I did when my skin was taught and I was fatter. If any of you have experience with these - please let me know what brand, where you got it etc. If you got it online how did you decide what size to get. The last thing I want to do is order a bunch and have them not perform their intended purpose

    June 2007 Bandsters

Been a long time since i posted here but I had my first real misserable experience with the band. Admitedly i took way too big of a bit of an egg white omelet and it got stuck. I have had something stick slightly before but it passed after standing up. But this time it was there for good. I tried walking around etc and eventually pb'd. I feel so misserable about doing it like i have failed. I had made a goal for myself never to pb and sure enough I couldn't accomplish it. I am worried that i did some damage and of course my docs office is on vacation through all of next week. I am going back on self perscribed liquid diet for the next couple days just to ease any irritation. I am not in pain or anything just want to be careful. I have to say my pb experience was the worst thing i have ever gone through. it wasnt really painful as it was more uncomfortable but the mental impact has been devistating. Any advise. Will i be okay?

    Exercise

Do incline, flat and decline barbell bench press. flys also help. I have noticed my moobs have gotton saggier because i have not been lifting like i should. Try wearing a compression shirt (see my other thread for types) they work really well to make you feel less self consious about your moobs.

    Milestones, Anniversaries, SVs and NSVs

Went in yesterday for my first fill - piece of cake. Still don't feel any restriction but good to know it is there. The doc was pleased with my wl thus far. I made my goal of being down a total of 50 lbs by first fill. I am going back in a month for another adjustment. keep up the good work

    Compression Shirts

Did some cross posting on other forums and found that there are several name brands for the same type of product. Price and quality varies. I ended up going with under armour. first impression WOW freakin WOW. I put this thing on and it is form fitting but has sucked in my moobs (man boobs) and extra skin like no other. I can actually fit into a size smaller shirt now. maybe even two sizes but i dont own any xl shirts. despite being form fitting (not tight) there is a difference, it is remarkably comfortable. much more so than your typical cotton t. I wore one working out last night under a tank top and it wicked away sweat and kept me cool the whole time. i went back and bought enough so i can have one a day under my work shirts.

    Question for the guys....

The advantage of home gyms like the bowflex are you can do multiple types of exercises with one machine. I suggest you break up those exercises by body zones. Back and biceps , chest and triceps, and then a day for legs. Start out by doing light weight/resistance with high repetitions. I would do 3 sets of each exercise with 15-20 repetitions. Another good way to increase aerobic exercise by doing anaerobic (weights) is to do a circuit. Plan out your exercises in sequential order but rather than separating zones - work your whole body in one work out. Still do 3 sets/15-20 reps of low weights but take no more than 30 seconds to do a set with no more than 30 seconds rest between sets/exercise change. The bowflex is set up so that you can switch between exercises in under 30 seconds. Make sure you stretch and warm up with a walk on the treadmill before and cool down with stretching and a walk afterwards = 5 min should do. I can complete a circuit in my local gym in 30 min others may have additional or different advice but this could be a start for you.

    Milestones, Anniversaries, SVs and NSVs

What a great idea this is. For me - just a couple days past one month and down 46 lbs. I am very happy with my results thus far but I have to say I have not been good all this time and would suspect that if i stepped it up a level i would drop weight even faster. Lets keep this up so we all stay motivated to loose. My first goal is to be down 50 lbs by my first fill appointment. I believe i will get there no prob but i really want to wow my doc. Keep up the good work gents

    Post Surgery Light-Headiness...

I get light headed all the time now - and i am not nor do i need bp meds. I get really light headed when i bend over to put my ball on the tee while golfing. One time almost blacked out. My nutritionist said it was because i wasnt eating enough. My dr tells me i am eating too much. Who knows. I am still losing so i dont care about the calories - i just hate the feeling of almost passing out

    For Just Us Guys

Hey guys - been gone for awhile - realizing that i have no idea where the month of may went. I am not near the goal yet for exercise but i still continue to lose weight. I am a bit concerned that i am starting to break down muscle though so I really need to get my ass into the gym. Hope all is doing well. Steven - the answers to your questions are there - but if you are like i was there will be many more to come. Feel free to ask. One aside to your question. I played golf 1 week after surgery, probably a couple days early but i was fine. I only had the gas pain (from the gas they bloat your abdomen with during surgery) for the first day. Walking takes it away rather quickly. I had surgery on a wednesday and worked friday. (desk job) Good luck
  22. Jenna - from a male point of view they look totally natural arms up or down. I can only tell a difference if your arms are up but it is still totally natural looking. So if you are not in the habit of walking around with your arms above your head all the time, noone will ever know a difference. I look at the pictures people post purly from a clinical point of view. I want to see the different stages people bodies were in when they got PS. I am sure I will need removal of loose skin etc. So it is important to me that people keep posting their pics. It lets people know that many people need ps and that it is often times a necessary procedure after wls. To those that critisized you for posting these picks I hope you told them to go pound sand and get off their high and mighty morality horse. For christ sake the human body is a beautiful creation that should be celebrated. People need to get over themsleves and stop forcing their prudish/archaic views on others. There is an old saying my grandmother used to tell me when i would tell on my brother. (paraphrasing here) "Before you worry about the speck of sawdust in your neighbors eye, you should remove the plank of wood from your own"

I had a really great gym quality treadmill that collected dust for years. I sold it and joined a gym that was only 10$ a month. Now I have all the equipment i could imagine collecting dust. Actually i have been going quite a bit

    For Just Us Guys

The AP Band was released for use to all surgeons in the US in June. Some surgeons have had it for a few months prior as preliminary advocates for its design changes. Dr's still have to be trained on the new closing mechanism to be able to use them. The original band, the VG band and the AP will still be made available and from what my surgeon said there is no plans by inamed to discontinue any of them. I have an AP band - the large one. I dont have any fill yet so i dont have any restriction, but the jist of it is that it is supposed to make the surgeons life easier to install. It does have some additional benefits like the 360d baffeled inflatable tube which allows for uniform grip on your stomach. It is also purported to be easier to pass protien through.
  25. Simply spectacular - this is a non perverted male point of view so please do not take it the wrong way.
