  1. Oh no. I am so sorry. I hear how disappointed you are and I don't blame you. To go through all of the pre-op preparation, and then to actually go under anesthesia.. my goodness. I suppose it is better safe than sorry. Hopefully your biopsy comes back fine, and you can at least have that peace of mind. You lost 24 pounds on the pre-op diet! That is wonderful! You should be very proud of all your hard work. It is not easy, but you did it. Your liver will come around in its own time. I had some liver function tests a few years back that were off and went for a liver scan and was told it was due to a fatty liver. (diet related) I don't know how long it took to improve, but today it is looking back to normal. The body is a funny thing. I know six weeks must feel like an eternity for you, but think of it this way...if you only had six weeks to spend with someone you live, or six weeks to spend with your newborn before you had to return to work, it would seem like the time flys by. Try to think of it as an extra challenge or preparation for what is to be a lifelong change, and you will most certainly succeed at it based on how well you did the first time around, and how disappointed you are now, which shows how bad you want this. Life isn't always fair, but all of these tribulations will make you cherish the payoff even more. So mourn a little (who wouldn't), but then try to re-energize and tell yourself that this WILL happen and you will do an amazing job of seeing that it does. Keep us posted and always come here for support. And by the way, my cousin had the sleeve, and loves it. She has had great success, so if it should come to that, it isn't such a bad option from what I've been told firsthand. Good luck, and hang in there!!!
  2. Good luck! Hope everything goes well. Keep us posted!
  3. I felt the same way (done on the 6th). You'll do great! Best of luck!!!
  4. Thinking of you! I imagine you are banded right about now! Hope things are going well. Congrats!
  5. Same here too! 5 days post op, and still feeling bloated and carrying a few extra pounds since surgery. Can anyone who is further along in the process share with us how long this lasts? I know it varies from person to person, but can anyone share their own experience with the bloating and extra fluid? Thank you!!!
  6. That's great! I'm happy for you! I am four days post op, and still having some pain/discomfort on my right side where the port was placed. There is some bruising there, but no redness or evidence of infection, so I think it's just a matter of time before the discomfort disappears. How are you doing on the post op liquid diet? I've found that it's getting easier. I'm not craving foods that way I was in the beginning.
  7. Wow, you guys are troopers! Sounds like both of you handled your setbacks very well. Hopefully your posts will be helpful to others if someone else is concerned about redness and/or the potential for infection. It's great that you were so observant and "in tune" with your bodies that you were able to act quickly. I'm glad you are both feeling better. Hopefully it will be smooth sailing from here on out! Good luck!
  8. Congratulations! I'm day four post op, and still pretty sore, especially around the port, but getting a little easier each day. I had dry mouth too! My doctor gave out Cepacol lozenges to help with that. Best of luck moving forward! I am definitely sharing your excitement. Let's do this!
  9. How are you feeling? Did the antibiotics do the trick?
  10. Oh no! Keeping fingers crossed that the antibiotics clear this up for you! You did the right thing listening to your body. When symptoms worsen instead of improve, it's time to get the doctor involved. Congrats on staying on top of things. Hang in there. We are all pulling for you! Please keep us posted. Sending healing thoughts your way!
  11. Thank you for sharing that information! So glad to hear you are feeling great! I am very sore, but it's only my 2nd day post op so it is not unexpected. I am pretty bruised. I haven't tried their vitamins, but seem to digest my Centrum chewables very well just as I do my Viactiv with Calcium chewables. In fact, they taste like candy, so I rather look forward to them as strange as that probably sounds! Please let me know what you think of the Bariatric Choice oatmeal. I was curious about that too. Thank you, and good luck!
  12. Hello everyone! I could not have survived the pre-op phase, nor will I make it through the post-op liquid phase without my
  13. Hello fellow bandsters, Just wondering if anyone here has tried any Bariatric Choice products and whether or not you were happy with them? I ordered some of their Protein bars, as well as their pancakes and sugar free syrup. The pancakes are high in protein, low in sugar and carbs. I am hoping I'll be happy with the purchase because most of the reviews were very positive. Thanks for any info! I also welcome any other info on products or websites you found particularly helpful. Thank you!!

  15. Admitting it is the hardest part! So, you are human and had a moment of weakness. None of us are perfect. I agree with the comments above. You have the right attitude about moving on and going forward. Half the battle, at least for me personally, and I would think for most people, is not beating ourselves up if we get off track momentarily, but rather realizing the error of our ways and starting over again. Good job. You'll be fine!
  16. Although everyone is different and it is hard to compare, I can tell you that my port site is the most sensitive part of my abdomen right now, and I am now almost two days post op. Very tender and sore to the touch with some skin discoloration, swelling and bruising over the area. My surgeon is aware of it and did not express any concern. I would guess that if you are fever free and are not having any unusual drainage that perhaps it will just take some time to get back to normal. I am not a doctor, but I am an R.N., and that would be my opinion based on what you've described. However, if you are going to worry about it, then it can't hurt to have it looked at since you are a few days post op and probably don't have a follow up scheduled for a couple of weeks? Trust your gut (no pun intended) and do what you will feel most comfortable doing. If you just need a doctor to put your mind at ease, then there's no shame in that. Please keep us posted!
  17. Thank you for the information. I appreciate it. I'm hoping mine will bounce back too. Perhaps some of it was simply surgery related? Stress on the body, together with fluid retention from IV's and swelling. I will run it by my primary care tomorrow, but will also keep an eye on it for the next few weeks at home. Wish I could say my pulse in the high 40's was running related!!
  18. On an unrelated note, does anyone know how I can delete the second post? I tried the edit button, but there was not way I could see to delete the duplicate post. Sorry folks! If anyone can tell me how to delete it, I'd appreciate it!!
  19. Hello! I was just wondering if anyone else experienced a drop in B.P. or heart rate post-operatively after lap band? My B.P. normally runs around 120/70 - 120/80. The evening of surgery, it dropped to 80's/high 40's, and my pulse in between 40-50's. My doctor wasn't concerned since I was otherwise asymptomatic - no lightheadedness, no dizziness, etc. He attributed it to anesthesia, and the nurse suggested that pain meds could be a contributing factor as well. I am home now, day 1 post op, and using a home blood pressure cuff, I am still running around 89/56 with a pulse of 40-50. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? I could use some reassurance! Thank you!!!

  21. Wow Dawn, just noticed your weight loss ticker! 88 pounds lost and only 30 to go! Congratulations! Any secrets to your success that you'd like to share? When was your surgery?
  22. What a great post! So nice to hear you sounding so happy! Congrats on making it to the pureed (mushy) stage! That's terrific, and 13 pounds! Not too shabby! Sounds like you have plenty of incentive to stay motivated. Best of luck for continued success!
  23. Yes! I take a Centrum chewable (orange flavored, actually tastes pretty good), and viactiv chewables with calcium (chocolate flavored), one to two per day. They were recommended by my lap band nutritionist, and they go down easy, taste great and keep me feeling energetic and healthy. I was told it is imperative to take them daily for life, so I've just made it a natural part of my morning routine. I actually look forward to them!
  24. There are some skin tightening facial masks on the market, as well as some skin creams that are said to promote elasticity and firm the skin. I'd suggest researching a bit online to find out what ingredients to look for in creams and masks. Also, if there are any facial care places nearby, you might consider a consult with them too. Far less expensive that cosmetic work, and usually they can recommend what to use and often offer a series of treatments which might be the route to go. I have a feeling I'll be soon be researching these things as well because my family members have mentioned noticing the weight loss (only 17 so far) in my face as well. I have the same concerns. I'll keep you posted if I find any particularly promising products! Good luck!
