  1. Welcome Cindy! I am new too! Just got banded yesterday. I have five incisions also. Sore, especially where the port is, but taking pain meds as prescribed and getting very excited for what lies ahead. We are all here to support each other, and as you can see, it is at your fingertips whenever you need it! I am excited about that too! Good luck! Let's keep in touch about our progress!
  2. Good luck tomorrow! I'm sure you'll do great! Very exciting!
  3. I'm not sure if there is a recommended time frame for measurements that I am unaware of, however, in my opinion, I would say every 30 pounds or so, or every couple of months would be a good time frame in order to see results and walk away feeling positive. I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad experience eating too fast. I hope I don't forget and do the same! We all make mistakes, so I guess you just have to chalk it up to "lesson learned"! Sounds like you have done that already. Best of luck from here on out, with eating, and with measurements!
  4. You sound like a wonderful teacher. Gotta love a teacher who would do anything for her students! Glad you are feeling better though!
  5. You are welcome for sharing, and good luck to you too! Sounds like you are excited. You will do great! How are you doing with the pre-op liquid diet? That is the hardest part. The surgery is nothing really. I am sore, but it is bearable, and I am so thrilled to be over this part, that I am looking ahead with eager anticipation! Please feel free to ask any questions. I am not an expert, but will certainly be happy to share any info from pre-op to surgery. Best of luck!!!
  6. Hello! Glad you are feeling better. Sorry about the hiatal hernia. I assume he repaired it for you? I am feeling better. Sore, but better. He had to put my port on the right side. He usually does the left side, but said because of the way my muscles were, it wouldn't fit there. Hmmm... My biggest disappointment was gaining 7 pounds back! I assume it is Water weight due to swelling and IV fluids, but still...what a bummer! I had worked so hard to lose 18 pounds prior to surgery, so to gain 7 back stinks. Did you gain any after surgery? I don't recall hearing anyone talk about that. Anyway, I'm happy for us! It's done! Now we can look ahead!
  7. Thank you very much! Will def. Keep you posted on progress. So far so good! Just had an amazing nurse. That can make all the difference! Sad to see her shift end!
  8. Congratulations! I had mine this morning too! Who was your surgeon? I had Dr. Glasgow. He was great too. I am so excited and also relieved it's over! Can't wait to eat real food again in a few weeks! Well good luck, and let's hope we heal quickly!
  9. Correction to my previous post: The Unjury powder kept me full during my two week pre-op diet, not post op. I haven't been banded yet! Tomorrow is the big day!
  10. Great story. I too was on a lot of insulin (am dose, with meals and nighttime lantus), as well as metformin twice a day. I started the liquid pre-op diet five days ago, and I have not taken any insulin or metformin because my sugars have been perfectly normal, and I have been checking incessantly just to be on the safe side. I understand that this may or may not change once I begin adding food to the mix, but I honestly believe that since I will be making healthy choices and having smaller portions, the sugars will remain normal. Let's hope I enjoy the same success you have! Congratulations. You must be thrilled!
  11. Congratulations! That's wonderful! I love to hear the excitement. I am getting banded in a week, and I am so looking forward to this. I hope to have a similarly happy story to share soon!
  12. You are definitely not alone. I have felt that way too, but I just keep reminding myself that losing weight and feeling good is so much more important to me than the temporary satisfaction that comes from eating favorite foods. By no means is it easy, but so many others just like us have succeeded at this, so there is no reason to think we won't succeed too! I suggest just taking it one day, actually, one minute at a time. Just deal with the here and now in making the right choices. It's too overwhelming to think of the foods you love that you can never eat again. I just keep trying to think of how good it will feel to be healthier, more active and to just enjoy life again. It'll be worth every sacrifice. I love food too, believe me (big Italian family), and haven't always made the best choices in terms of carbs and portion control, but I know I'll love being thinner even more than I love eating, so I'm committed to making the right changes. Good luck. You can do it!
  13. Thank you for the warm welcome. I wish you luck in October. How long do you have to do the pre-op diet for?
  14. Hello everyone! I am getting banded on the 6th. I am very excited. Even though I will still be on a liquid diet for two weeks after, I am hoping it will be a bit easier than the pre-op liquid diet. I am on day 5 of 11, and I am still hungry much of the time, although, I am happy to be past the initial headaches. (They lasted the first three days). On a positive note, I am completely off of my insulin based on my blood sugars being back to normal just from the liquid diet! I will still have to monitor closely for a while, but one of my biggest goals was to get off some of these diabetic meds, so things are looking up. Good luck to all of you on your personal journeys!
  15. Hello everyone! This is my first post. Getting banded on the 6th. Survived day 5 of my pre-op liquid diet. Ugh! Only 6 more days of this until surgery. Thank God for Unjury Protein powder because those shakes are my saving grace! Why is it that when you can't eat certain foods, they suddenly look so much more appetizing than ever before? Went to the grocery store today for my family. Not so fun. Oh well...no one said this would be easy. On a positive note, I am completely motivated and excited for next week.
