  1. It doesn't seem to matter how much you lose on the supervised diet. What matters is that you have the proof of the monthly visits and weigh ins. I don't think it's a good idea to gain weight' date=' or not lose any weight at all.

Also, as long as your BMI is in the range of 40+ or 35+ with other problems, I don't think they deny it. They have an insurance coordinator named Nilsa that probably could answer specific questions. She is super nice and has dealt with ALL the insurance companies and all their specific requirements.[/quote']

Ok good to know, my primary told me the same but I thought if I lose too much by the time I see the surgeon they could deny surgery. My primary said they are concerned with sustained weight loss and bp control. My history shows I cannot sustain weight loss. My bmi is currently 36.

Did you stay overnight at nyu? How are you doing?

  2. Thanks for the answer. I've already done my six months. My appointment is tomorrow and in my dream world my surgery would be two weeks from tomorrow.

    GOOD luck!

Does anyone have ghi insurance and going to nyu? Im confused by the requirements. I'm currently 3 months supervised by my primary. Ive lost 5lbs and my bp has stablized. I'm hoping the don't deny me because of this. I'm hoping to see Dr Kurian.

  3. Thank you all for your replies. I guess I do think I have something psychologically wrong if I am over eating... isn't that why so many of us are overweight? I don't want to say the wrong thing.

After the band what do you do with these feelings of wanting to eat, both during or after stressful situations? Is the addiction still there? Or will it transfer to other things?

  4. Hi, I have just discussed the lap band surgery with my primary doctor. To my surprise he told me he has been banded, so has his wife and sister and mother! He said I qualify as my bmi is 36. I am covered by my insurance but I have to call to check the requirement s. My dilema is this, I'm 40 next month. It took us 6 years to have a baby, we did several rounds of ivf. My weight was not a factor for my infertility. My son is now 15 months. We have frozen embryos which I want to use but I feel like my time to have a successful pregnancy is running out. Do I get a lap band, lose weight and try to get pregnant 12 months after? Or get pregnant in the next few months and revisit the lap band surgery after I have a baby. I only gained 14lbs while pregnant and lost it all within a few weeks. I'm so unhappy with myself with my current weight, it has been a source of severe depression and anxiety for decades. Ive basically been.on a diet since I was 8! I'm sure you can all relate.

Thanks in advance for any replies and opinions on the pregnancy issues.
