  1. This is so helpful for me to read all this I am almost 5 months post op and found out I am pregnant today' date=' could you tell me what your food intake is like do you still drink the shakes? I am so worried... My obgyn said for me to take 2 prenatal Vitamins... Any advice you cod give me would be amazing![/quote']

Hi :) congrats! Currently I am trying to consume at least 1000-1200 calories. It's a huge challenge daily and I do still drink my Protein on days where I can't get enough in. I only take one prenatal but I do take vit c, d, B12 and Calcium. I am also still on Prevacid for heartburn. Baby and I are monitored regularly for weight gain and size. He gets checked every 6 weeks for size and growth via ultrasound at our local children's hospital and so far so good. I'm 27 weeks now and he is right on target and I've only gained about 13 lbs. believe it when they say the baby will take what it needs and drain you of everything you've got. Lol. I worried constantly in the beginning about what I ate and forced food down and still do at times but it's really not necessary as I've learned. Just eat healthy and drink your Protein if needed. I'm always here to answer any questions. Congrats again!!

  2. In the loss phase I ate no more than 900 calories a day. In maintenance I aimed for 1' date='100-1,300 a day. While pregnant, I aimed for 1,400-1,600 calories a day.

I'll be honest, there were times when that was a real challenge due to either restriction or morning sickness. And there were times when the hormones were flooding my body and I felt like I could eat all day long. But overall, that's the window I tried to stick with throughout.

I gained 32 pounds, a perfectly normal weight gain that actually worried my OB. This is the same OB that saw me during my twin pregnancy and the fact that I gained so little this time had them worried. However, my daughter was born at a normal weight (for our family) - right in between the weights of my previous children at 6 pounds, 7 ounces. She was born perfectly healthy, at 39 weeks, 3 days so there were no problems with her size or health due to my surgery or my diet.

A huge thing to consider is Vitamin supplements, though. I had very real issues with both lactose intolerance (it reared it's ugly head again with my pregnancy) and morning sickness every time I consumed meat. I had to find ways to make up the difference, and I turned to Protein shakes for a while. I also took a number of Vitamins to help ensure the baby was getting enough of what she needed, too.

By one week postpartum I had already lost more than half the weight, so try to shelve any concerns about a normal pregnancy gain and focus on the baby.

Good luck, and wishes for a healthy pregnancy!

Thank you so much for the info!! I do try and hit at least 1100 but that's even a challenge. I am taking my prenatals and B12. What else should I be taking? Or what did you take? I am still on heartburn/acid reflux meds and without those I suffer and that's a challenge with eating as well. But I'm so glad to hear others journeys and know that their lil ones came out at a good weight and with no problems. I go for another ultrasound in a few weeks to check babies weight and growth and I'm praying he is right on target. I tend to have big babies 8-10 pounders. So we will see. :) so far I've gained about 12 lbs and I'm in my 23rd week so I'm doing ok...I think. :) I am definitely going to try and reach at least 1200-1300 calories because there are days where I feel like I didn't eat enough and I start to worry. :). Thanks again!!

  3. Hi! :) I'm 24 weeks post op and 23 weeks pregnant. Me and baby so far are doing good. But my question is: how many calories should I be consuming daily? I read online that normal pregnant woman should eat an extra 200 or more calories a day but that's based on 2000 cal. What about us sleevers? I feel like I'm struggling to get in 900 and I also read that a girl who was sleeved only ate about 800-900 and her baby was very small and born a premie. Any advice?? ;) thanks

  4. How are your pregnancies going? Can we get an update on your health and the baby?

Hi! :) I'm in my 23rd week and my baby boy is doing good! So far he is right on target and he gets checked monthly for size and weight gain. So thankful everything is going good. It was scary at first. Now to keep praying his weight gain continues. :) as for me I've only gained about 6lbs and haven't lost any so I think I'm doin ok.

  5. It was a combination of the two. She was underweight (even for 36 weeks)' date=' and her lungs were underdeveloped. That's why she was in NICU. My OB wouldn't ever say anything to blame me, but she said "the stress of pregnancy on MY body" was what prompted the early labor. So I took it to mean that my body wasn't handling pregnancy well with my low intake and weight loss, which prompted delivery at 36 weeks and 5 days and since she was under weight at that point she ended up in NICU. (A lot of babies born at 37 weeks are perfectly fine without NICU)

But again, I want to stress... She is almost 2 and perfect!!! <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> But if you can get in some extra calories to help the baby out, it's not like you're going to gain like crazy and it could make for an even healthier baby!! Maybe adding a Protein shake each day or something![/quote']

Gotcha. :) so glad she was fine and is fine now :) it's a little scary for us. But I am trying to get in the extra stuff when my tummy allows. :) thanks for info and insight. I am always happy to hear others journeys.

  6. I was so worried about weight loss and didn't follow my doctors orders to get more calories in. I wish I had let them stuff at least a little more food down me' date=' just in the hopes it would have kept my daughter out of NICU, but, she'll be 2 in May and she's perfect! <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> And I ended up needing to get sleeved anyway! Lol[/quote']

So was she early because she wasn't thriving from your lack of food intake or more from the stress or a combination? I feel like I'm over eating because everyone is constantly feeding me but then I'm not gaining. So far he's just a little under weight but they keep saying its ok for now. I am worried that I'm not getting enough Protein. But I feel like he's going to come early either way.

  7. Oh wow! I was heavy when I had my daughter and when I lost 30lbs everyone was freaking out and putting me on high calorie shakes for geriatrics lol!! I had a lap band at the time and with the baby and the band in' date=' my tummy just had no room and when it did, morning sickness shoved everything out lol! I stopped losing around the last 3 months or so, but still didn't gain any before delivery. My doctor would have flipped if I lost as much as you have!! lol As long as the baby is healthy though, that's what matters <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> My daughter ended up 3 premature, they said from the "stress on my body" but after 4 days in NICU she was able to go home when I did.

Oh and don't worry about me getting to skinny!! Lol as soon as that baby was out and the pressure was off my band, it quit working again! Lol I easily gained it all back after she was born! Ugh!!![/quote']

Lol. When I didn't gain the first two months everyone was freaking out. I do wish I could've lost a few more pounds but it's ok. I did manage to lose inches tho which is weird. But everyone is still a little freaked out that I've only gained 5 lbs and I'm already in my 5th month. It's crazy how they try to stuff food down me. Hahaha

  8. I am 7 mos post op and 7 mos pregnant. I had an IUD and still ended up becoming pregnant. My pregnancy is also unplanned but still a blessing <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> my baby is doing very well <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> an I've lost 115 lbs in these 7 mos. I still have 80 lbs to lose but I know I will be able to do that once she gets here. Everything will work out for the best <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> I will say that this pregnancy has been the best even with the more nausea I've had.

Wow!! That's amazing. I haven't lost a single pound but have only managed to gain 5 lbs but that's ok with me. I'm used to gaining 30 plus pounds. Glad to hear that the baby is doing well. What was your starting weight? I've been told that because I was almost where I wanted to be that that's the reason I didn't continue to lose.

  9. I'm three months post surgery and took a pregnancy test today that showed positive...going to the doctor tomorrow...Does being pregnant stop your weight loss? Has anyone maintain or continued to lose weight by exercising?

It depends on the person. I stopped losing almost as soon as I found out. But I maintained my weight the first two and half months and just now started gaining. So far only 5 lbs. dr says as long as the baby is gaining I'm ok. I do have a few extra ultra sounds to check his weight and so far so good. I have been told that many do continue to lose. I still exercise also :)

  10. So excited!! We just found out its a boy! ;) he is healthy and perfectly normal and right on target. I have only gained 5 lbs in 18 weeks and dr says I'm doing well and so is baby. We have only one other boy and had tried 3 more times to have another and not even trying and we got him. So yes god does have his plans and I'm so grateful for them. :) thank you guys for all your kind words and support.

  11. how are you doing? do you have an update? Fellow pregnant sleever here :-)

Hi :) we are both doing well. I am now 16 weeks and have had 2 ultrasounds just make sure all is well. I am finally eating a decent amount and I don't feel like I'm starving my lil one anymore and I am not gaining excessively either. So far I've only gained 4 lbs which both doctors are please with. :)

  12. Well I am now 11 weeks pregnant and baby and I are both doing fine. I have lost a few pounds but only about 6 which is good. Eating is a struggle to get all my Protein in and try to eat veggies and fruits that baby needs. I had my first ultrasound to make sure baby is fine and thank god baby is good. We will be monitored closely but just as a precaution. Morning sickness was rough at first but is calming down. I go in next week to see both the doc and will have more to report then. :) thank you to everyone with your kind words and thoughts!

  13. Hi :) I just found out that I'm pregnant last week. I'm 8 weeks post op and 8 weeks preggers. Scary thought for me. But I'm glad to see that you all are doing well with the pregnancies. I am having very bad morning sickness :( not something new. I always have it but not this bad. Almost every time I eat I vomit. I can't get my Protein in and I'm barely getting enough Water. How long did morning sickness last for you guys and what did the dr's say? I always feel like food is stuck or gonna get stuck in my throat then I don't eat much and then vomit. :( anyone else have these feelings?

  14. Hi, I'm 8 weeks post op and 8 weeks pregnant. I was very scared and stressed out all last week...spoke to my dr and he has reassured me that no harm will come to my baby and that I will be ok. Yes it's not planned and is ideal to wait...obvisiously...but things do happen. Yes there are options available if you choose them and yes some pregnancies may not be viable. I have made my choice to continue my pregnancy and if its not meant to be so be it. But if you ever need to talk please feel free to message me. There are some that are not supportive on here and may come off as rude, but I am here if you need to talk.

  15. You would have to have been pre 12 days...at the surgery date to not have shown up... and for some' date=' even as low as 8 and it wouldn't show. Can you date it using that time frame???

It's key to date it now because the anesthesia used in surgery can have some very detrimental effects on the fetus. I learned this the hard way. I had an emergency surgery at 8 days and the surgery damaged the fetus badly. I faced the decision to terminate due to profound fetal issues or move forward but knowing her chances were slim with a guarantee of lifelong medical issues...severe. Fortunately I had a natural miscarriage but it was a heartbreaking time for me and my husband as we had been trying to have a second child for some time. We never achieved that goal.

If only I knew then what I know now about anesthesiology. But....hind sight is always so much better isn't it?

You need to try to date the pregnancy as closely as possible and don't wait, don't email, go now to your OBGYN as you are going to have to make some important decisions very quickly. First obviously if you wish to carry this pregnancy is the first one. I am not implying judgement on that either way, but the earlier you make this decision the easier on you dear. Secondly, if you are going to continue, you need to have testing done to ensure that the baby is ok for both your health and the baby's. And if there is something wrong, you need to know the scope so you can make the hard decisions again, as early as possible. And lastly, if the pregnancy is going to continue you need to start immediately on a medically supplemented diet program because you can't get enough nutrition in to support the pregnancy in a healthy way this early out from your surgery.

Whatever you do, I wish you the best. This is scary and of course a hard decision to have to deal with. I didn't want to scare you, just to share the road I traveled so that it might possibly help you out. Take great care of you!!! And best of luck with the future, whatever you do!!![/quote']

Thank you! We have been doing the math and for sure it was right after the surgery. And we are still trying to figure out what to do....we have other children but were not expecting this at all. I've never had to face a situation like this...I am so confused and stressed. But I do appreciate all your advice and thoughts. I will be praying on this and I am waiting to hear from my surgeon and my ob. I hope to have appts this week.

  16. That's correct' date=' Pregnant not even 2 months after surgery. I see some threads but I'd just like an update of anyone that is going through this or went through it already... I was 300 pounds at my highest weight, now down to 240. I'm not even concerned as much about the weight gain as I am for my baby. I know this wasn't planned, but I'm already in love with my little pumpkin. The doctor that I saw at my nuchal screening told me that my weight and the fact that I became pregnant so soon after surgery makes me high risk, emphasizing preeclampsia, gestational diabetes and internal herniation. It's just all so much. I'm 25 and this is my first baby so anyone that can weigh in at all is appreciated. I've had terrible all day sickness and scared about nutrition and everything...[/quote']

I just found out I'm pregnant...only 7 weeks post op and about 6.5 weeks pregnant. I'm so scared and don't know what to do. I will be making dr appts this week. This isn't my first but is still very scary considering the surgery. Good luck to you!! Congrats and I hope everything goes well for you!!

  17. I had to take a pregnancy test just before my surgery in pre-op. I even stated that I am already in menopause' date=' but they said it was mandatory.

Follow up with a nutritionist will be paramount for you. I have read of others who got or are pregnant post-op and still lose weight, but having a high quality diet will be so important, and of course pre-natal Vitamins, etc.

First thing is to coordinate with your doctor and nutritionist, and get your first appointment with OB/GYN so you have constant monitoring.

    Good luck.[/quote']

Yes...I did too, we are wondering if maybe I wasn't far enough along for it to show up. I will have to find a Nut soon and I'm still shock.
