    Newly banded 12/4/12

I was also banded on 12/4. I've been feeling really hungry for 3 days now. I'm on full liquids and that just doesn't seem to keep me full or satisfy me at all. I'm counting down the days until I start mushies. As far as pain goes I'm almost pain free just some incision tenderness. I think it's normal to start feeling hungry after surgery as the swelling in our stomachs go down. You probably won't feel restriction until you get a few fills. I believe we are starting the stage everyone refers to as bandster hell. It's where you have to rely solely on self control to get you through until you get to proper restriction and the band starts to help. Good luck!

    Nurse Bandsters??

I'm a nurse at a plasma center. I don't do a lot of lifting or pulling but I do a lot of standing on my feet all day. I have 3 weeks off. The middle week I have to go to a conference for my job. It will be a lot of sitting around. I think I should be fine.

    Constipated!!!

Imodium is an anti-diarrheal medicine. It stops diarrhea. Definitely should ask your doctor first though.

    Done With Surgery:)

I had surgery today as well! And it sounds like we had surgery at the same time:) I had surgery at 9. Woke from anesthesia at 10:30 and went home at noon. I'm feeling great. Just a little sore. Congrats! It's so exciting to see other people starting their journey at the same time as me!
  5. You look great! Keep up the good work!

I'm happy to report that surgery went very well. I went into surgery at 9. Woke up around 10:30 from anesthesia and left to go home at 12. I've been able to lay in my bed on either side and sleep for and hour and a half at a time. I've been walking around a lot in between naps. I have no gas pains. My pain in my stomach just feels like I did a bunch of sit-ups. I'm also tolerating drinking fluids well and have had nausea. I hope the rest of the day continues this well. I have no regrets!

    Youtube

Hi guys! I've been on the boards for about a month or so. I'm being banded on 12/04. I decided to start a YouTube channel to document my journey. My channel name is lovelyrestriction. I have found a lot of help from watching YouTube videos and want to be able to contribute to others. If you are interested feel free to check my channel. I posted my first video today and I plan to make a new video once a week.

Destiny- I'm being banded Tuesday too:) I've had a cold for the majority of the preop diet. I called my doctors office and they said as long as I haven't had any fevers and I don't have on the day of surgery I can have surgery. Fortunately I haven't had any fevers and all my symptoms are pretty much gone. I think I'll be good. You should call your doctors office to check. I have been afraid the whole time I've been sick that I would have to postpone and restart the liquid diet. That would be aweful!

Is It Possible To Be Low Carb And Vegatarian?

My old college roommate was a vegetarian and she tried to restrict her carbs to keep a healthy weight. She was not banded. She ate a lot of morning start products and boca burgers. They are pretty high in protein. She also ate a lot of beans with brown rice. Together they made a digestible protein that separate you don't get. I know rice is not possible for a lot of bandsters though. Hope this helps a little.

My doctor didn't specify a certain number of pounds to lose during preop. They said the point of the preop diet is to shrink our livers and if we lose weight it's an added bonus. That being said...I started my preop diet on 11/20 and I've lost 16lbs so far:)

    The Honest Truth....

I have only seen my surgeon once since I started the process of being banded. I'm scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. The time I saw him was for my consultation. He was very kind and informative. Since then I have seen his staff on all my other visits to his office. I've seen his nutritionist twice and his NP twice. I also saw his psychiatrist once for my psych consult. His NP said he will do my first fill and then she does the rest unless its an emergency. His staff is awesome. They are so supportive and friendly. So far I'm happy with his practice. To be honest though, I have a PPO for my insurance. There are 2 bariatric surgeons in my area but the other is out of network so I didn't have a choice of surgeons to choose from. I'm not sure if I would have chosen differently if I did have a choice. I would have had a consultation with the other if I could have but that was not an option for me. Either way I am going to be successful. The band is a tool and I've done a lot of research to learn how to use it. It seems to me that people who are successful with the band are the ones who follow the rules and the ones who fail are the ones who don't follow the rules and don't follow up with their doctor. My doctors staff has provided me with all the information I need to be a success and I plan to follow their rules and keep up with my follow up appointments.

Mama2girls- I'm a nurse too so I know where you are coming from. My biggest fear is of complications down the road like erosion or a slip. I'm confident that the surgery will be fine. I'm choosing to be confident that this will work for me. I know if I follow the rules it will. If I don't, it won't. I'm going to work my band so that I'm successful. I really believe that people who fail with the band fail because they don't follow the rules.

I spelled it wrong. It's davinci. I got them at sams club.
  23. I'm 24 and getting banded on 12/4. I'm doing this so I can have healthy pregnancies and babies and so I can be a good mom someday. I don't have any health problems except for obesity and I want to keep it that way (except for the obesity part).

    Dec 4 Band Date...anyone Else?

I'm December 4th! I started my pre-op diet on 11/20. Here is my diet plan: Breakfast and Lunch: Protein shake 20-25g protein, 10-15 carbs, and <200 calories I am using the isopure low carb Dutch chocolate powder 1 scoop with 8oz of skim milk. I also add sugar free divinci syrup for flavor. I have raspberry and Carmel. Delish! Morning snack: 6 oz of sugar free or lite juice <100 calories Afternoon snack: 1 oz of cheese and 1 medium apple, orange, or banana Or...1 cup air popped popcorn 100 calories total Dinner: 4-6oz of meat 1/2 cup veggies and 1/4 cup starch 300-350 calories and 20-25 carbs I make a salad with chicken breast every night. I can also have an unlimited amount of calorie free beverages. The goal is to have 800-1000 cal 60-80 grams of protein and <60 carbs. It's really not hard. I haven't gotten hungry yet. For thanksgiving I had my dinner at lunch time so I could eat with my family and did a shake for dinner instead. My nutritionist said that was fine. Hope all this info helps!!!

    Help!!!

I'm scheduled for surgery 12/4. I started my preop diet on Tuesday. This afternoon I started the get the feeling that a sore throat was coming on. I just woke up in the middle of the night with a bad sore throat and a runny nose. I took a dose of zicam but what else can I do? My doctors office had me stop taking my multivitamin to prepare for surgery. I won't be able to call my doctors office until Monday because of the holiday. Any advise is appreciated. I really don't want to have to reschedule my surgery!
