  1. Sounds great! Everyone is different and you're right that we should all do what's right for our bodies. Listening to your body is key. Personally I was just relieved to hear a lot of people didn't want or need fills.. I'm still getting my head around the fact that I have a plastic ring around my stomach so I need to take it slow.

When you say you felt like you could eat anything' date=' did you? Just curious. Could you eat any food you wanted with no problem, and that's why you got the fill?

P.s 40 lbs is an amazing loss and you should be stoked![/quote']

Every time I went back to the docs I was asked if I was hungry all the time -- my doc would even say, "Are you miserable!?" Lol. He is so caring, that way. And if I ever got nausea or had throwing up or stuck episodes. The answers were always no!

However this visit I admitted that I feeling hungry a lot, even with the Protein I'm eating, etc. and doc asked if I can basically eat anything I want. I said, I could. . . but that I don't. I was very vigilante even at Thanksgiving. But a few times when we went out to eat I just wasn't as vigilante. I still stuck to my good foods (I.e. salad, grilled chicken, vegetables) I just ate more of them & definitely too quickly!!

Doc asked me if I could eat bread. Once again I admitted I could but steer clear of it as much as possible! Anyway so that's how that went. Then he did the fill, had me drink Water while he waited, told me I'm doing great!! :)

Today I can feel a lot more restriction. Whereas before I could eat deli sliced lunch meat no problem. Today I had to readjust and eat slower! And actually make half a can of bean Soup & eat that slowly. So yay! My band is working. :) Thanks for the encouragement. Hope you are doing well! :)

  2. That was me yesterday, but it was okay. It didn't hurt. Although I have been very careful with eating and drinking. We will see if it makes things any better. Will probably take several before I notice it. I hope all goes well next time you see the doc and don't worry. My doc made it very easy and pain free.

  3. My doc did do a fill today. I didn't feel a thing. I haven't been hungry since yesterday at 2:00 in the afternoon. Not sure why. Talked extensively to the nutritionist and she was awesome. I needed that refresher to remind me how the band is to be used. I am a little trepedatious for fear that I will mess up and eat something wrong or too much, etc. But I know that I have the tools and knowledge necessary to be successful.

However, I really feel like I had stalled. Not because of the weight loss, that wasn't the big issue. It was the fact that I had no restriction at all. I could've eaten anything I wanted, although most days I didn't. There were some days where I had a lot of trouble. I am 3 1/2 months out & almost 40 lbs. down which I understand is great. That wasn't the issue. The issue was beginning to be the physical hunger even when I ate the Protein and tried to keep my tummy satiated.

And emotional days were hard because I am an emotional eater. That's what got me 140 lbs. overweight! So my point is, to each his own. I Celebrate each and every persons weight loss as long as they are happy & healthy. And you have to work hard for every lb. lost and they should all be celebrated. Even if you have a fill that isn't going to be the only reason you lose weight. Exercise, vigilance, and determination are the key!!!! Good luck everyone. And congrats on your successful journeys. :)

  4. That sounds similar to me. I've gone back 3 times since my surgery -- Sept. 11th. With pre-op diet & since I'm down almost 40 lbs. My doctor hasn't wanted to do a fill yet. He says I'm doing great. And the girls in the office tell me it's good that I'm also doing the work & not just depending on the band. However, I think at my next appt. there will be a fill. I'm starting to be hungry all the time and not as able to control my cravings. Haha. Maybe it's the holidays! :) Either way, as long as you are losing weight, it shouldn't matter. You probably need to learn a lot about food & eating in order to make this work. If you stop losing weight, tell your doc you're ready for a fill. Good luck with it all. Also, I have thought the same thing. Could I have just done this on my own? Yes, but would I be able to make it to my REAL goal & keep the weight off in the long run. Nope, probably not. :)

  5. KaranK - :) I'm smiling now, but Dr. Folwell had me do a week of pre-op diet. I've been very happy with Dr. Follwell. He is very caring with his patients and doesn't rush a fill when it isn't needed. I had my surgery Sept. 11th. I'm down 35lbs. I went in Oct. 11th but doc said I was doing great. . . no nausea. . . not hungry between food.

So Dr. Follwell wanted to wait for my first fill. Will most likely be on Nov. 14th, my next appt. I don't know either of the other docs, but others have said Dr. Minikin is good and he's at Des Perres. I'm interested in attending a support group. Let me know when you go, I would lithe to try one.

Good luck with your surgery. It will be over before you know it and you'll be on your way to recovery! Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. :) Take care. :)

  6. Thanks everyone! I appreciate the positive feedback. I guess I'm just scared to lapse into old habits. I literally avoided eating pizza for fear that I would want to eat it like I used to. I have noticed that some of the foods I used to "pig out" on don't taste as good to me! Maybe it's subconscious or maybe it's because I'm eating less fatty, less greasy foods and I'm acquiring a taste for them. :) Either way, I'm proud of my accomplishments. And I really appreciate the moral boost from everyone. Thanks. :)

  7. I am only 24 days post-op. I've lost 26 lbs. in a little over a month. Sept. 3 was when I started my pre-op diet! That is a lot of weight in such a short time, right!? I mean I know it is.

I'm not always perfect. Sometimes I probably should measure, especially when I eat real foods. But I rely heavily on my tiny little yogurts, my tiny cottage cheese cups, etc. It's only when I'm confronted with real food that I slip up. Last Sunday was my teenage daughters birthday, so we all went to eat at Fazoli's! I ordered the absolute only thing on the menu I thought was healthy, Whole Wheat Penne Marinara with Basil Pesto, Broccoli and Roasted chicken. I sectioned off about a fourth of it, then auctioned off the rest. But I also picked at the breadsticks! :( All of my subsequent attempts to eat with my family have gone about like that. I make a valiant effort & it starts off well. But I end up eating some of the stuff I know I shouldn't! Not a lot, just a taste here and there. But it's frustrating and I feel I'm in for trouble once I get my first full October 17th. :(

  9. Yep, for me! Melissa first day, Danny that night, then Amanda, next morning. They were so great! I had a wonderful experience. Too!! Loved walking down and seeing the birdies! :) Feeling a little better today, sore tummy! But able to drink and have Decaf coffee and SF Italian ice! I can do this. This week will be rough, but so worth it. :) Good luck to you. We should chat when feeling up to it!

  10. . . . my tumbly! :) 2 days post op. Just giving an update! Haven't experienced the intense pain that a lot of people mentioned. Mostly bloated tummy and incision pain. Haven't had a lot of trouble drinking Water but can't mentally stomach anything else! I tried to eat Jello last night and broth today. Ich! Can't do it. May get better in a few days. :) Otherwise not so bad. Just resting a lot and trying to heal. :) Good luck to everyone and best wishes to all the new banders out there. :)

  11. Posting in Post-Op, yes I am! Surgery this am @ 8:00. Recovery has been good so far!! Incision sites are mildly painful, sore and tender. But so far that's about it. Definitely not hungry. Will post more later, when not so tired. Thanks for the support and caring everyone!! :)

  12. Thank you all for the great ideas!!! My surgery is the 19th' date=' I still have 12 more days of preop diet. What is unjury, and costco?[/quote']

costco is like a Sam's Club!? Not sure if you have those where you are, but I checked & Sam's Club sells the Premier Protein shakes, also!! :) Good luck and hang in there. I have 4 more days of Liquid/Protein diet. I'm not feeling too good. I think all the sugar-free stuff is giving me a headache! :) But soon it will all be worth it.

  13. I actually like the Bariatric Advantage Protein shakes as they feel more filling than Protein Shakes from the stores maybe because they are higher in Fiber content.

The only time I could not have them was just after the surgery when they proved too thick to get down. I did successfully use pre-packaged Muscle Milk Light and Premier Protein (from costco) at that time as they were a thinner consistency. Try those and see if you like them. They have a similar nutrition profile to the BA shakes.< /p>

Me, too! Premier Protein from Costo!!! I didn't get any strawberry but the vanilla is my favorite. I think they taste pretty good, no aftertaste, and no Vitamin taste. Good luck and don't give up! :)

  14. Congratulations, and loopy is better than pain! That is so great, you've cleared another hurdle. I'm starting to get scared (surgery Sept. 11th) but my surgeon is great & I can't wait. Keep me posted on your progress and I'll do the same. Hey, you will be 5 days ahead of me. . .so I expect lots of good advice. Haha. :) Take care & heal quickly! :)

  16. My surgeon said I can have sex right away' date=' just not Olympic, so basically that means no sex for a while ;)[/quote']

    Haha! You go, girl. ;)

I'm encouraged to hear that the drive could increase. I've gained nearly 90 lbs in the 6 years since the hubs and I met. :( He loves me, wants me, thinks I'm sexy, and tells me I'm beautiful every day!!! But I want to feel sexy inside and out. It's not just about looks. . . but about health, energy, stamina. . . and flexibility!! Haha. But love is the most important thing. So I guess I'm off to a great start! :)
