jessicakesbanded got a reaction from elcee in Do You Ever Feel Judged Because You Are On The "smaller" Side?
I just got banded on August 9, 2012 and I couldn't be happier. I have been dealing with my weight my whole entire life, and I am only 24. I have 60-70 lbs to lose. I hold my weight pretty proportionally too.
When making the decision to get the lapband, I got a whole lot of "you are too skinny to get the lapband", or "you should just be happy with yourself the way you are", or "you should just diet/exercise, surgery is too drastic", yet, when someone who is 300 lbs says that they are going to get WLS, people are always so supportive of them. It's like telling that 300 lbs person that they can have the lapband, but only until they get to 190 lbs... And then they are going to have to take it out because they wont need it for the last 60 lbs they need to lose. Ya know?
I don't really worry about it anymore, because I've made my decision and I am happy with it, but it still irks me.

Hey y'all! I'm Jessica. Guess I am a part of the class of August 2012 now! I was banded a few days ago, and still recovering. The day of my surgery was probably the most painful day of my life (just being honest here), but every day I get better and better. I honestly believe that this was the best decision I ever made.
I have my own YouTube channel where I am tracking my whole journey. You should subscribe if you are interested! My username on there is the same, Jessicakesbanded

I qualified for surgery at 35% BMI, and threw myself into 6 months of nutrition therapy and got my BMI down to 28%. I still had the surgery because "I earned it." I heard a lot of comments from nurses and other medical professionals question why I was still having the surgery but in the end, it was my decision. Right up to the point they put the IV in my arm, I was convinced that insurance was going to withdraw my approval. Anyway, I've lost and gained enough in my life that I didn't want to fall off the wagon and gain weight all over again to qualify for the surgery again. It was a long, drawn out process afterall.
Personally, I chose carefully prior to surgery who to share my plans with and who to not share with. There is a big chunk of my family that has no need to know about my personal choice. I'm not a person who really needs anyone else's encouragement, but I don't have the patience to listen to naysayers either. Anyway, I feel your pain, sister.

It's been a week already?! Holy cow. Lots and lots of down time, and quite a bit of pain, but I'm finally feeling a lot better (and TMI, but A LOT better after my first BM last night lol). I have my first post-op appointment tomorrow, but I did weigh-in today..... I lost 7.2 lbs! In one week! SEVEN POINT TWO! craziness. That brings me to a total of 14 lbs, and only 56 more to go lol. I am not expecting a huge loss next week, but I am aiming for 1-2 lbs. Did anyone get to start mushies on week 2? I don't feel like I have any swelling around my band, and I am able to get all my Protein and Water in every day, so I am just hoping I can start on some semi-real food... and maybe start getting some Fiber back in to my diet ASAP lol. woo hoo!

I have been taking the gummy vitamins for awhile now and I like them, I got them at walgreens. BUT, I have been banded now for 1 week, and i've tried them a few times this week and they weren't going down very smooth. I have been using Flinstones per my surgeon's instructions (nostalgic huh?!) for this week, and until I run out of them, then I'll probably go back to the gummies. I guess for right after surgery, some people prefer the chewables (the chalky kind) rather then the gummies just because they can desolve more before swallowing

I am one week today too and had my one week follow up with lots of good news. First, I've lost 21.5 pounds since my pre-op appointment. Second, I get to start mushies today!
I was so happy I went to a local salad bar and filled up a container with cottage cheese, soft fruits, hard-boiled eggs, etc. The best part was that after 4-5 bites I started to feel full. I called my husband and said "this thing really works!".
Hope everyone experiences days like these - best wishes to all!!

My 24th birthday was August 2, I was banded on August 9. I paid out of pocket for my surgery. So it was one big, very expensive, life changing birthday present. I want to make all of my birthdays in the future even happier and healthier then ever before.
