ok, I'm having a time with the Protein and the amount of food I can take in. The doctor said I can have a salad but I just can't chew it enough that it won't get stuck. I'm going to wait a little longer. I think I have been pushing the food thing a little fast. I might go back a bit to Soup. I ate salmon and spaggetti squash, and of course no matter how much I chew, it sits heavy it my chest.

I'm now 3 weeks post op and I still can't get down anything with any substance. I might have to get a swallow study done.

The same with my scale. I bought the Biggest Loser scale, which suppose to have a memory of up to 10 people and it tells you your BMI and the amount of cals. needed to maintain your weight. If I move it thoughout my house
I can get a 10lb difference. The scale is not the most reliable tool.

@ smallvegan, did you do some raw juices post surgery, I'm thinking about adding in some fresh wheatgrass juice and beet and ginger juice for healing. What are your thoughts?

I've had the same feeling with every single drink or bite I've had so far. My doctor says it's just internal swelling and to be patient. I'm eating liquids/purees and very slowly. I'm definitely not taking too much at one time. I have to drink/eat a tiny bit then wait for the feeling to pass. Then do it again. I eat/drink almost nonstop for 200-300 calories a day at the moment. I feel like everything gets stuck either at the back of my throat or in my chest. I'm on day 12.
This is me, I on day 5 post op. It hurts to swallow...

Yes, the heartburn and hiccups will get better. I was omeprazole every night, and it helped with the heartburn really fast. I had a lot of n/v from my hiatal hernia too, still struggling a little with it at 2 1/2 weeks out. It gets much better. Good Luck!
Thank you for the info, I was starting to worry. The doctor put me on carafate and it's not really helping much. How about the hunger? I'm not really hungry as of yet but I can't really feel and pressure with drinking the liquids. when did you start taking your Vitamins and did you crush them at first to get them down?

Greetings to all, I'm in Athens Ga, and I was just sleeved in Gainesville Ga, by Dr. Henderson. I would love to hook up with others maybe in the Atl area to go walking up stone mountain sometimes or any other hiking trips.

I'm having crazy heartburn also. I had a hernia repair with my sleeve and I had hiccups and heartburn.
-
At first they keep me because I could not keep down and liquids for the first 2 days, then I had problems with heartburn and hiccups. I'm not having much pain, which is good, Hopefully I get to go home tomorrow.

I think that a lot of us had hiatal hernias repaired, much to my suprise!
Sorry to hear that you are still in the hospital! Why are they keeping you so long? Because of the heartburn? That stinks!

I hope to be going home tomorrow.

I'm a RN, 43 years old and I have been a Nurse for 17 years, 3 years Med-Surg, 13 years ER and 8months Hospice/Home Health. I just recently had the procedure done on Sept 11,2012. I'm still in the hospital as I type this because for the first 2 days I could not get anything past my diaphragm. Lots of nausea and vomiting. I'm doing mush better today however, now I'm having a lot of heartburn and hiccups. I had a Hiatal hernia repair with the sleeve, Has anybody else experience this?

Wondering how many nurses are being sleeved in general but wondering specifically those being done in July.
RN 37 years as a nurse and I work in a pre op holding area. My surgery is tomorrow July 10th.

I'm glad to hear from you all this is somewhat normal. I'm still in the hospital, I am 4 days post op and having to worse case of heartburn. They say it comes from crystal light lemonade flavor. I drunk some and thought I was going to die. I'm also having hiccups. I had a hiatal hernia repair with the surgery so the first 2 days post op I could not get anything to go down past my diaphragm. I really hurts to swallow to fast or to large of an amount. I pray to go home tomorrow. I don't really know when I am full but I don't really feel hungry.
Did anybody else have a hernia repair with the sleeve surgery?

thank you all for the kind words & support. i realize i can come off as overbearing sometimes.. but it comes from a good place.. i'm just passionate! lol --- i come in peace! <3
notime-- that's cool that your nutritionist is a vegan. but there are vegans/vegetarians out there rocking their sleeves. lol it may be a little harder in some ways, but it's doable! even if you can't or don't want to be a vegan, it's good to incorporate some stuff from that lifestyle in your diet, like you guys are talking about doing! doesn't have to be a full on conversion, a little does help a lot!
here's a video of a lady whose been sleeved, she's demonstrating how to sprout some seeds to eat & talks about the benefits of the Water that the sprouts are in..
on a side note, in regards to sprouts.. i saw on doomsday preppers (a tv show) where one family stocked up on various sorts of seeds and Water to sprout & live on in case of a major disaster.. because they (the sprouts) have everything you need to survive.. amino acids, minerals, Vitamins, carbs and Fiber. i thought that was pretty cool!
Thank you for this link, So much Information.

Greetings to all,
I was just wondering if there where any raw foodist/vegans/vegetarians out there to share some nutritional wisdom with me? I'm really concern with maintaining as healthy or as chemical free diet as possible.

Hi everyone, I am 5 months postop and feeling kind of down. I had surgery on 5/3/12. I was soo excited and scared but I knew that this was what i needed to do for so many reasons. sleep apnea, heart condition, and so on...the surgery went extremely well and I have lost some weight. Unable to tell just how much because I have not been weighing myself consistently. Matter of fact, I only weigh when I go to my doctor appts and there have only been two since the surgery. I have another appt this month, 9/12. I have gone from a size 28 to a size 24 but I am back to my old eating habits. I did the liquid fast for two weeks before surgery and I did the gradual return to solid foods after surgery. I have not exercised as much as I should and not really understanding why I don't have the motivation to do better. I do have more energy than I had before the surgery and I am walking farther distances but I just can't seem to stick with any type of disciplined food and exercise regimen. The surgery was the tool I needed to help but I must find the mental tools to complete the weight loss. I am a receptionist and I sit at a desk all day and want to snack on anything and everything that is not good for me. It's like I know what I need to do but don't have the will power to do it. As I write this I am crying inside and out because I know nothing is easy and nothing worth having comes easy. I know I must put in the work but ......anyone ben where I am?? Please give me some words of encouragement and support and thanks for listening
Be easy on yourself. It seems like everyone gets into a little slow period, but from what I hear it is short lived. Also for work be prepared for the snacking but maybe bring something to distract you or my some healthy bulky Snacks like apple slices or pear slices, they have Fiber and will create bulk. Also I have tried Unjury, chocolate Splender and it is the bomb Protein Drink. It taste so good. You are doing great, and your Mojo will return. I hope this helps...Much Love.

Hey, everybody. I planned a day of cheating, my last meal before my surgery. I went to a Italian place and now I have taken my laxatives and one more day of Clear Liquids. I'm very excited. Total of 11lbs lost and on Tuesday at 12:30pm the beginning of the rest of my life.

@ newgrandmother, I had my pre-op visit today and theni stop in Trader Joes and they have a Latin style Back bean Soup in the carton that is so good, only 70 cal. per cup and it really helps with the cravings, warm and spicy. I was going to eat something but my father is flying in from Philadelphia on Sat to be with me while I'm having my surgery and I decided to not eat until he gets here and I will have my last meal on Sunday, Laxative that night and surgery on Tues.
Something else I found to help me with cravings is Jello Mousse temptation, dark chocolate 60 cal and 0 fat. Hope that will assist you. Much Love...You will be just find...
