  1. Our history is about the same... Tell me, did you have any issues with medical clearance due to the asthma??? How are you doing with it now? My biggest fear is having my pulmonologist say I can't have it done.

    Most Humiliating Fat Moment

These stories really made me think. And they were hard to read because I spend so much energy burying my feelings. I have some to add: first, I was not always big. I didn't even break 100lbs until freshman year...needless to say whenever I see people from school I hide. I work for a hospital and was working in the ER when an older patient said to me, "honey when are you due?" so smiling as best I could I replied "about the same time you are, I'm not pregnant I'm just overweight" don't you know his reply was "oh, you can't lie to me, I know a pregnant woman when I see one.". I just walked away. One year I had my entire family and my husband's family over for thanksgiving dinner. One aunt who I hadn't seen in years comes walking in and in front of everyone yells "oh my, you sure have put on some weight!". Not even hi, thanks for having me.... I think the worse thing I face is myself... In my head I'm still the thin girl thAt had trouble gaining weight. When I think about me, that's what I see. That in mind, every time I glimpse myself in a mirror in a mall or a store window... Its a shock. It's like each time I have to realize how big I am. Pictures ... Forget it. I can't wait to get my sleeve. I'll never go back to this.

    Timing Your Meals

From what my surgeon tells me, you should be eating 1-2ounces every two hours or so. One of the girls here started out eating like that and lost weight quickly. When she finally went back to 3 times a day she stalled. Now she's back to every 2-3hrs and she's losing again. I'm going straight for the every 2 hours as soon as I can eat.

Is There Spice After The Sleeve?

unfortunately I've been stuck with it since I lost my gallbladder 10yrs ago. I'm one of those people that takes extra Nexium to be able to eat the foods I love. LOL I'm hoping that it goes away. But I'm more looking forward to less asthma exacerbation. I'd trade breathing for spice. But... if I can't have the breathing... POUR ON THE SPICE!

Is There Spice After The Sleeve?

according to my surgeon I won't be eating "real food" for at least 5 weeks after surgery. Not so big on tabasco but I LOVE my habanero sauce. Thanks for the encouragement.

Is There Spice After The Sleeve?

@ Likasulema/Kathy: That is sooo funny! I guess that's one less question that I'll have to ask in the future. Thanks @LilMsRose: I also LOVE Jalapeños. Let me know how you progress. @Crystalintville: I didn't think about the drinking part. Thank you for the reminder. Sour Cream is a welcome addition and a good tip too! (fat free I'm sure) @Isereno/Lynda: You give me hope! My dietician did say that I may not like the same things Post-op as I did pre-op. So, I will heed your advice and take it slooow. Thank you all for your responses! ~Tammy
  12. Funny you should say that. I was actually thinking of doing the same thing. However, my position at work is rather different and I may end up not having a position to come back to. I'd still have a job, it just may not be this one. I'm torn. But, I'm not even approved yet so this may all be for nothing.
  13. I'm so glad that I read this post. My Dr. told me that (with a sit down job) I should have no problem taking only a week. I so hope I won't even need that long. Optimistic.

It's Too Early To Be Overwhelmed Or Impatient...

I started this process quite a bit ago with the gym and the NUT etc. My doc suggested counseling due to high stress so I do that too. My NUT said to chew every bite 25times. I can tell you that once you chew something 25 times you'd be surprised at what you find you don't really like. Try that. I've noticed that on the days I count...I eat a LOT less. When I don't count I eat too fast and stuff my face. It took a while but I realized that it's a process. I just hope to change my worst habits before the surgery so I don't have to struggle so much after. Good luck to you! keep going and if you mess up just try again.
  15. I'm new to the site and should be getting my surgery date tomorrow. Getting nervous. Mostly I'm worried that this 100lbs is a medication issue and after all this I still won't lose anything. I've been working with a dietician since May with no results. ( like 3 lbs). Anyway, it's nice to see that I'm not alone. And I've gotten some insight regarding possible post op issues. So, thank you all. I look forward to this journey with you!
  16. My doc didn't say to restrict caffeine at all but: no carbonated beverages, no drinking with straws and no gum chewing! Too much air in the digestive tract. I'm worried about my coffee. I'll be asking at my next appt.

Anyone Else Like This At This Stage?

Try isopure zero. It's zero carbs and 40 grams of protein but it is NOT a shake. It tastes like watered down kool aid ( not as bad as it sounds ) comes in many flavors and is not heavy at all. The only one I don't like so far is apple melon. My dietician said 80 grams daily so these drinks take up half of that and you don't need to drink it at one sitting, you can sip throughout the day. However they can be pricy so look around in your area and online. Good luck!

What I Ate On Vacation (Sleeved July 2Nd)

It's funny how each surgeon has different requirements. Mine, like someone else who posted, said I'd be virtually food free for 5weeks postoperative. It goes through stages and starts with clear liquid ending with soft food. Each stage lasting a week or longer if not tolerated well. Also, No RED meats for 1year.and no BREAD like EVER. Makes me wonder how much is medical fact and how much is opinion. I'm getting nervous and go tomorrow to possibly get my date. I look forward to eating a variety like you! Good luck , it sounds like you're doing wonderfully.
  19. I'm new to the site but my surgeon seems to have answered all of your questions: SAG: as some others have said, is related to your current age and elasticity. #2 he says, will begin again with food. He does recommend a stool softener (also mentioned). HAIR: all protein related. Preop should be a minimum of 40grams a day but post op at least 80 (40 Food 40 drink) i'm using isopure zero its 40 grams per drink and zero carbs. It's very important. Also he says 4 flinstone complete chewables per day. ALCOHOL: NONE for at least a year! This will be a hard one for me. After a year he said don't drink anyway, too many carbs and too much sugar. Additionally, no pregnancy for 1year, no breads, and no white flour. I hope this helps. My facility requires that all patients attend 3 meetings while they are preop. That's where all these questions are asked. Good luck with everything. I'm going tomorrow to hopefully get my date.
