Secret Or Not? What To Do!
I haven't told anyone but my bf and my hairstylist. I'm usually an open book, but for some reason I don't want to share with anyone right now. It's my body, my business.

Unflavored Protein Powder
Is unjury.com the only place to buy the unflavored? I don't see it on Amazon. Is it at VitaminWorld or GNC? I ordered some unflavored packets and I can deal with them (I have to!) but if I can save on shipping, that would make it even better.

Under 180Lbs And Getting Sleeved, Anyone Else?
I am 195 now, but got up to 199 for at least the third time in several years. I consistently lose 20 and gain 30. I see my parents and the rest of my family members and I see my future. It's not pretty. I need to get this under control now before I have heart problems, diabetes, high BP, and whatever else. If I don't get it done now, this time next year I'll be at 210 and even more unhappy with my weight. I'm fortunate that I only have back pain, hip pain, and sore knees. It will get worse, I have no doubts. Some people would say I'm not that big . Why wait until I am? I've been fighting this weight battle for more than 10 years. I'm ready to get another weapon and slay this dragon once and for all.

Gone To Mexico Alone?
I will be going alone Thursday and will have surgery Friday. I was lucky that FRZA is having surgery the same day with the same surgeon but I would have gone by myself if I had to. Natava, the reason many people go to Mexico is because their insurance won't cover wls. Mine doesn't cover it. And to be honest, the surgeon I am going to has more experience with sleeves than the surgeons in my area. Why would I pay them $20,000 when I can go to a more-experienced surgeon for less than half the price?

My Mexicalli Experience!
Thanks, I can handle it. I have no pre-op diet, just cutting out the soda and sugar on my own before surgery.

My Mexicalli Experience!
Yes, I'm calling her my sleeve sister since we have surgery the same day with Dr Aceves. I've warned her I may ask her to hold my hand since I'm going alone.

My Mexicalli Experience!
Thanks moonrisen, I will be sure to pass your message. I'm scheduled for 8/31 so I'm right behing you! Just curious, on the post -op instructions Nina sent, it says clears for 10 days, and on the post-op thread about Aceves patiets (in this Mexico forum) it says 5 days. I'm fine either way, just wonder which one it is?

Saving Up
Jesser, I'm in your shoes. I've been saving for this since January. I could have had the surgery a few months ago with a cheaper surgeon, and I'm sure everything would have been fine. My heart told me to go with Dr Aceves so I waited a few more months to get the surgeon I wanted. I know this will sound weird, but once I started actively saving, extra money started coming in. And it all went to my savings. I thought it would take a year to save enough and was planning to have it done over Christmas break. I was able to save the money in 8 months. You can do it too!

May Be Going Alone
I will be going alone but am lucky enough to find a sleeve sister who is having surgery the same day so that helped ALOT. I feel better knowing someone is there to hold my hand or hold me down if I get the jitters. I'm ready, I'm ready, just a little nervous.

My Mexicalli Experience!
I am scheduled for surgery with Dr Aceves on Friday. I am so excited and ready to do this. I have researched, researched, and researched and feel very comfortable with my surgery and choice of surgeon. ready2beskinny, Dr Aceves is more expensive than Dr Garcia. I am paying $8750. There are many excellent surgeons out there, most are cheaper. I went through the list, narrowed it to my top 5, then top 2 and finally prayed about it, and woke up one morning feeling in my heart that he was the best choice for me. I have been saving for nearly a year for this, and feel that I personally have the best chance of success with Dr Aceves. I could have had the surgery months ago with a cheaper surgeon, but I was willing to wait and save and pay more money for my own peace of mind. I am not trying to be negative about anyone else's choice. This is my own gut feeling. You have to go with yours.

I ordered rthe sample pack of coffee drinks from Big Train and I think they are really good. I won't be able to drink the coffee ones for a while but the chocolate has 20g of Protein so I will order more if I still like it post-op. The mocha will have to wait awhile... Hmmm, can't seem to share the link, but it's bigtrain, com

Is Vsg Really Right For Me? 2 Weeks Out And I Have The Jitters!
This is so like me, I could have written it myself. Thank you so much for asking, and thanks to the others for the responses. I just spent a week on a cruise ship and my friend kept saying "you don't eat much, I don't see how you will possibly eat less". She was right. It's just that I normally would fill up on rolls and other carby food which I love, love, love with a passion that scares me. Even though it wasn't alot of food, the calories were too high. was focusing on eating protein first, bread 2nd. I didn't gain any weight on the cruise. Years ago, I was at my brothers house for a New Years Eve party. I was getting ready to go on another diet and I said I would have just one potato chip. As I was talking, I mindlessly picked up another. The chip was suddenly knocked out of my hand by my brother and went flying across the kitchen. My brother said "you said you were only going to have one." He was right. And to this day I can probably count the number of potato chips I have eaten since then. I have often said I wish I could have him knock the cookies out of my hand. I hope this sleeve will be a mental "slap" for me until I get out of the habit. I want to want healthy food. Right now, I would rather eat one brownie instead of an entire plate of healthy food. I don't want to be a slave to sugar anymore.

Bummed At People's Reactions
Based upon previous conversations with my mom, I know she would not support me. My mom and dad are good people, but are very overweight and sedentary. When I have lost weight before, it seemed she would try to sabotage me. She knows my trigger foods and has them when she knows I'm coming over. I'm sure it's because she feels better that I'm heavy too. Like she's not different. She has knee pain, joint and back pain, and refuses to go to the doctor or dentist. I think it's because she is so self-conscious but its not a topic for discussion. My dad would just be more concerned about the dangers of surgery. He probably needs to lost 80+ pounds, but I've never seen him try to lose weight since he retired from the military 20 years ago. He would FLIP if he knew I was going to Mexico. Honestly, it would not be pretty. So I have only told 3 people, not even the people I work with. I don't know why I don't tell people I work with. They are a great group, I'm just not ready to share yet.

No More Diet Coke!
Of all the things I worry about, caffeine withdraw is my highest. I drink a little Mountain Dew every morning. I have a couple cans in the fridge and 17 days till surgery. Once these are gone, I will be done with caffeine, Hopefully forever. Soda definitely forever. I'm not sad about food. Honestly I've eaten enough crap for the next 42 years, but the thought of no more MD kind of makes me sad. It makes me sadder that I'm addicted to this drink that has no benefits at all.

Pj's Or Nightgown For Hospital Stay?
Ok I have a nightgown my mom bought me from the hospital gift shop after my emergency gallbladder surgery. I'll pack it just in case, but plan to wear the hospital gown. I know I will need socks and slippers. My feet are always cold. I picked up a loose sundress at Kohls today for $10. Not the most attractive thing I've worn, but it will get me home. It will be handy if I end up having to run any errands the first week or two as well.
