  1. I'm 43 (42 @ surgery). I was back at work 5 days after surgery, although I was lucky enough to be able to go home at lunch and lie on the couch for 30 mins or so. It took a couple weeks to feel completely back to myself, 2-3 maybe? And some days I would come home and feel so exhausted I could barely climb the stairs to my room. I definitely took a few naps on the weekends for the first 4-5 weeks, Now 7 weeks out I feel great. Most of the time I forget I'm sleeved unless I drink or eat too fast.

  2. Wow, I'm so sorry to hear that. I had surgery in Mexico with Dr Aceves. I had no pain after surgery, although I did have nausea the first two nights. Not during the day, just when I went to lay down for the night. Weird. I had a hernia repaired (didn't know I had it). I was in the hospital for three nights after surgery and had an hour-long van ride to the airport. I used a stuffed animal between my stomach and the seatbelt so no problems. The flight home was uneventful and I drove myself home from the airport (maybe 15-20 minutes). Still no pain, just tired and ready to lie down on the couch when I got home.

  3. I live in Henderson. I didn't go through any Vegas surgeons. I was self-pay since my insurance doesn't cover WLS. I went to Mexico with Dr Aceves. He was cheaper and has much more experience than any Vegas surgeons. And I wanted the three-night stay in the hospital. I hear Blossom is out-patient.

  4. Hi I'm a newbie here :-) Not quite sure how this works. But I was wondering who is planning to have surgery with Dr. Alberto Aceves? And if anyone will be there around Dec. 4th?

Faith in Christ can move mountains <3

Hi! Just wanted to say that when i went I only knew one person from this site (my surgery sister FRZA) but there were several people already there in different stages of recovery. So don't worry too much if no one says they are going, you are sure to find other people there. One person knew we were going by reading this forum but didn't post about it. We met her at the airport.

  5. Hi, I am 5'2 and I know how every pound seems to show and how much it wears on your body. I yo-yoed up and down and finally decided I needed a weapon for my war on weight and that's how I came to VSG. Some could say that my 193 pre-op weight was not so high but I was depressed & miserable. My parents are both obese, my dad has diabetes (mom probably does too but hasn't been to a doc or dentist in at least 25 years. No exageration), and my grandfather had a series of strokes and later died from a heart attack. I could see my future and it wasn't pretty.

Ask lots of questions, do your research, and keep coming back! We are all here to support you. :)

  6. We're only about 7 pounds apart now. She requested these shark footie pajamas for Christmas, so when I saw her size, I picked them up. Tried them on out of sheer curiosity. I'll be going back tomorrow to pick up a pair for me. Another friend says there's a moose pattern, which I simply must have.

Yay! What a great feeling! And I have to ask, where did you get the PJ's? I'd love to get a pair for my sis-in-law.

  7. I rarely had issues with heartburn or acid before surgery (just if I ate something spicy too late in the evening). I was given a PPI after surgery & needed it every day, After my PPI ran out, I tried OTC Prevacid but it didn't work well for me. My stomach felt like it was boiling! Not heartburn, just pouch pain. I was up to a pill every 6-8 hours with little relief. I know it works well for many but I had to get a script from my PCP yesterday. Hoping it will work!

  8. Interesting! Do you have a list of the other 20 or so Drs from this list?

It was only this page. I would have posted pics if there was more than one. Personally, I happen to know one of the surgeons and I wouldn't trust him to operate on a bug much less my stomach, so I kinda question the selection process. Don't ask which one, I won't say. Many people here have used him and had good results.

  9. I bought the 4/14/12 Newsweek issue on Amazon just to see if it was true and will post the pics here. Also, I don't believe Dr Aceves has written a book about VSG but Dr G Alvarez has. Please note: I'm not posting these to stir up controversy but just to show that the Newsweek does exist. How these surgeons are selected is not explained.

Although Dr Aceves was my surgeon and I recommend him 100% to anyone, I also respect other people's opinions and believet there are other surgeons just as capable and experienced as he is.

  10. I had my surgery 8/31 with Dr Aceves. I was treated like a VIP from start to finish, the hospital was amazingly clean, and the staff was spectacular. I work with physicians and hospitals for a living, and the hospital I was in was cleaner than most of the ones I visit daily.

I had no complications or pain at all. I have a follow-up coordinator who answers my questions by email, usually within a couple of hours.

There are many great surgeons in Mexico, In my case, my insurance doesn't cover wls, and even if it did, my surgeon has done more sleeves than all the surgeons in my area combined. Feel free to PM me if I can answer any questions about the experience.

  11. Yes, my surgeon told us to go and enjoy our last big meal. We had to fast for several hours the day before surgery before for testing and nothing after 10 pm I think . Funny thing, I was so excited and yes a little nervous I didn't really eat much of it. I was glad I had brought some peanut m&m's for dessert though. And I had a last coke at dinner.< /p>
