  1. Just curious. If it's traditional, is it 5 scars? I already have several from my gall bladder removal, so I don't kow why it really matters, but I'm curious...

    No More Diet Coke!

Of all the things I worry about, caffeine withdraw is my highest. I drink a little Mountain Dew every morning. I have a couple cans in the fridge and 17 days till surgery. Once these are gone, I will be done with caffeine, Hopefully forever. Soda definitely forever. I'm not sad about food. Honestly I've eaten enough crap for the next 42 years, but the thought of no more MD kind of makes me sad. It makes me sadder that I'm addicted to this drink that has no benefits at all.
  3. Ok I have a nightgown my mom bought me from the hospital gift shop after my emergency gallbladder surgery. I'll pack it just in case, but plan to wear the hospital gown. I know I will need socks and slippers. My feet are always cold. I picked up a loose sundress at Kohls today for $10. Not the most attractive thing I've worn, but it will get me home. It will be handy if I end up having to run any errands the first week or two as well.

    Driving After Surgery

Hm, I hadn't thought of that. Right now I plan to drive to my PCP 10 days after surgery. It's about 10 minutes away. I will play it by ear and if I'm even a little nervous I will postpone the appointment, So many things to think of...

    Coffee Love Affair

I just got some Big Train in the mail. Sooo yummy! I tried the mocha and loved it. Can't have it for a while after surgery, but it'll be something to look forward to in the winter.
  6. It's me, Amy, your sleeve sister. I changed my name on this site.
  7. As a pre-op I appreciate hearing from all perspectives. It's important to know the good, the bad, and the ugly. Thanks to all of you for sharing your stories. Isajck and lulu girl, I hope in a month when you check in that you are happier with your decisions.
  8. Thanks for answering. Can you tell I'm getting close and starting to worry about the little things like scars?

    First 20 Pounds Update:)

    Woo hoo! Congrats!
  11. I have a couple of work dresses but want to get at least one more casual dress for the flight home. I also picked up a couple of sports bras that hook in front. When I had a breast reduction it made them easier to put on and off. I have heard underwire bras may rub the incisions.

    Just Sleeved In Mexico

It is hard to decide. There are so many talented surgeons. All I can suggest is research as much as you can and go with your gut. I was torn between two, both have good reps, and woke up one morning positive about who I felt most comfortable with. Nothing toward the other surgeon. My heart was set on the one I chose. When I read stories like this about lying by the pool at the Marriot I get a little envious. I will be in a hospital until I go home. However, I still feel like I made the best choice for me and my body. It's actually nice to have a choice. Under insurance you have to take whoever is contracted with your insurance. When I had emergency gall bladder surgery, I got the surgeon on call. Remember, it's your health, mental comfort, and money. I took a piece of paper and put each surgeons name and pros and cons, It was easier once I decided what I didn't want: For me, San Diego is closer than Texas so cheaper flight and no having to change planes. I know I will just want to get home ASAP. Maybe I'm a snob, but the idea of a clinic in a strip mall concerned me, so he was out. And so on.., Then I just prayed about the last 2 choices and here I am, scheduled for 8/31. No pool but comforable with my choice :-)

I Was In Tears This Morning

Yay! Congrats to you! You're doing great!
  15. Those are all great ideas. I just want to suggest bringing the sample size packets of Protein powder you can get at Vitamin shop and online. That way they are in a permanently closed package in case you get a super-vigilent TSA agent who doesn't like zip-lok bags. I saw it happen in the Dulles airport a couple of months ago. If you have enough time, chike and mybariatricpantry shipped them next day and I had them in about 3 days. I didn't use fast track shipping. unjury took a couple days longer. I'm not knocking TSA. My good friend works for homeland security and he has seen some scary stuff people try to bring on. They are just trying to do their job and keep everyone safe.

    Omg My Tastes Buds Change

I really hope that happens for me. I don't want to have the cravings for sweets that I have now. I've eaten enough cookies and m&ms to last me the next 42 years. I really, really, REALLY want to get to goal and stay there without having to deal with the cravings anymore. Or at least be able to control them, rather than be controlled by cravings.
  17. I know what you mean. I'm so glad I found this site as well. It's great to get so much input and advice from those whose are travelling with us and those who have already paved the road.
  18. You look amazing! I like how now you have your head up proudly :-)

    Just Sleeved In Mexico

I agree with rdoactv. My surgeon (and most of the surgeons from Mexico) have done more sleeves than the top 4 physicians in my area combined. It would be $23000 to have it here compared to $8750 with a surgeon with more experince.

    Just Sleeved In Mexico

Glad you're doing so well. I'm scheduled for 8/31 in Mexico as well.
  21. I know the stall at week 3 is normal (until it's me at week 3 and I panic LOL) and I have heard that after a large loss like 10 pounds your body may stall again as it "resets". I'm pre-op, but from what I;ve read, you're right on track.

This May Be Inappropriate, Forgive Me :)

I gotta agree with this one. I'm 42 and I don't want anything more than a fun night or maybe if he's REALLY good, a weekend. So many guys my age want to settle down and stay a while. Nope, keep it moving! Maybe in my 50's that will change, but right now I like my own place and space.

    Weight And Sex Drive?

Good to know. I do okay dating, but sometimes just having him see me naked makes me so uncomfortable I find a reason to end the relationship before it ever gets that far.
