    Crossing The Border!

I didn't need a robe. I put my own nightgown on as soon as I could get up and wore it to walk around it. I was in Mexicali and I was pretty warm in just that. I actually asked for a fan in my room cause it seemed so warm to me. If you will have a drain, I suggest 2 nightgowns. The night my drain was removed, my bandage got filled with the gunk and it went everywhere. I had to change. So glad I had brought another one.
  2. I was mostly puffy in the abdomen but when I put on the bra the pressure around my ribs was unbearable. I felt like I couldn't breathe. If there's room in that area your bra now, you should be fine. My bra was comfortable, but not too snug and there was no room for the gas. I'm guessing I wish I had 1/2 inch more room around the rib case.
  3. I didn't have Dr Garcia, but I'm sure you'll be fine. I felt the same way: excited and nervous. I felt good by the time I flew home 3 days after surgery. I wasn't sick at all. I did take someone's advice and put a stuffed animal (my Paddington bear from childhood) between the seatbelt and my stomach on the van ride back to airport and on the plane. I had no discomfort at all from bumps on the road and the landing. You'll do great. Best of luck to you.
  4. Me too. It was not comfy walking laps braless for two days.
  5. I thought of something else: I wore my super-comfy bandau bra because it doesn't have underwire but after surgery I was so puffy I couldn't wear it. I had to go bra-less until I went home. Fortunately I was able to get it on that day and still breathe. I wish I had brought one in a larger size.
  6. I am 5 days post op and I know I'm not getting enough protein in. I'm adding a spoonful of unflavored protein to my 4 oz of broth a couple of times a day, but that's not even a packet. I made a Chike protein shake and put it in the freezer to chill. Is that ok? If not, are there any protein drinks I can drink? The Isopure is gross but I'll drink it if I have to.

    One Week Post Op

See if they have a heating pad you can use. Mine was gas chest pain so bad I felt like I was panting trying to breathe. I did 30 mins on my chest and 30 mins on my lower back and it made a HUGE difference.
  8. I did not have a pre-op diet as my bmi was under 40. I did use the week before to detox off sugar and carbs and drink alot more water.
  9. The electronics work there, no problem. I should ass, I wish I had brought a hair dryer. Didn't even think of it until I took my first shower and got to wash my hair (YAY!). I brought shampoo & conditioner, but no hairdryer so I had clean but scraggly hair for two days.
  10. In this forum , there's a thread for Dr Aceves patients that has great info for what to bring, I found my gas-x at Walmart. I recommend a heating pad. It was my bff on day 2 when I couldn't get the gas to move in either direction

    Protein Question-5 Days Post-Op

Thanks. My surgeon has a really strict after program of clears for 10 days (15 for me cause I had a hernia). When I shook the Chike it didn't look clear. I will stick with the broth with added protein and toss the Chike for now. Thanks for answering!
  12. I was given apple juice as soon as I was started on liquids. It was delivered every day with my tea and crystal lite drink. It only tasted good to me if it was poured over ice.

    Dating Again...eek!

Woo hoo! Just enjoy it and have fun!
  14. I'm only a few days out but will be on clear liquids for another 10 days before moving to thick liquids. I guess try something mushy like applesauce and take it slow. If the tummy acts up, go back to liquids for a day ot two. Good luck!
  15. Wow you've had a rough time and come out stronger. Good for you! What brand of shake are you drinking? I'm 5 days out and I'm trying to find one my stomach can stomach
  16. Yeah, it's weird that my waist/belly button area is 2 inches smaller around, but I can barely button my pants :-)

What Did You Name Your Sleeve?

I call mine Sweet Pea. And yes, it's just in fun. As in "my little sweet pea did not like Unjury chicken soup". Soup in, soup out :-(

    Dr Aceves

^Exactly what teddybear said!^ I work in hospitals for a living, and I have never seen any of them have staff who cleans all day and night. You could eat off those floors! Well, your companion could The staff were so nice and helpful. When I had nausea so bad I was retching into a trash can (very clean btw) the night nurse sat right beside me patting my back and talking to me until the nausea meds kicked in. My surgeons and anesthesiologist came by daily afterward to say hi and check on me. I have had 3 prior surgeries and never saw the surgeons after the surgery. When Frances and I wanted to go to the pharmacy across the street, one of the nurses insisted on coming with us to help us cross the street. It's like New York traffic; cars stop for no one. He is more expensive, but in my opinion, worth every single penny.
  19. I felt like this too. I just had surgery last Friday. One minute I was excited, the next I felt I was going to vomit. In my case, I did the one step at a time, and tried not to think aboout it too much. I know, easier said than done. But it really helped. For the last few weeks, I just focused on what I needed to do, enjoyed my last meals, and kept thinking about Thanksgiving, where for the first time EVER, I won't feel like everyone is looking at me and noticing how much weight I've gained since last thanksgiving when I saw them. I pinned workouts, clothes, and inspirational quotes on my Pinterest boards. Oh, and buying clothes a couple weeks before for a pre-planned cruise cemented my decision. I went home from my usual places like Kohls and Ross in tears several times cause I was too fat for the clothes I want to wear. I sucked it up and bought some clothes in my size, (ugh!) but decided that was the last time I'd cry because I was too fat for average size clothes. All I can suggest is every time you think of a reason to have the surgery, write it down, and pull out the list when you have doubts. In my case there were so, so many reasons to have it than not to.

    One Year Surgiversary

Great job! Sounds like your life is much better now.
  21. I found mine at Wal-mart. Just want to mention my heating pad was my bff for relieving gas. My gas was in the chest in lower back and it made a huge difference. Good luck tomorrow!

    Got My Date!

    Woo hoo! Congrats!!!
  23. Exactly 2 people outside this forum know. That's all that need to know. It's my body, my business.
  24. I just got back from a cruise to the Bahamas so I know exactly where you're coming from. I did let my friend take a few pics so I can use them as "before" shots since I usually hide from the camera. I just made myself relax and enjoy it, but I admit I am looking forward to next year when I will be wearing a much smaller swim suit. And I won't be hiding from the camera. I did notice that everyone was so busy having fun, they weren't really paying attention to other people. I hope you will be able to relax and enjoy your vacation in Paradise.
