  1. I'm 7 months post-op, lost 90 pounds and about 8 weeks pregnant. My ob requested my calories go up to 2200 a day...I'm barely at 1200 and have gained 10lbs as I'm usually at 900. I'm terrified that I'm going to be right back where I was. I had surgery in Mexico and my surgeon and I don't exactly get along, I prefer not to contact him ever again lol. My pregnancy was a total surprise, actually found out on our honeymoon.

  2. I'm down 45lbs since my surgery on Dec.17. In the last two weeks' date=' my hips have begun to hurt really bad. The only thing I can think is that I'm crossing my legs more? It's so bad it has made many nights sleepless.

I do exercise 3-4 times weekly (Zumba)

    Anyone else experience this?[/quote']

I discovered mine started to hurt especially in the morning. Well it was my mattress digging into my hip bones, I had to get a cushioned cover.

  3. Hi!

I apologize for the length of this post...I was sleeved 11/15' date=' so just 8 weeks ago and I am down 29.5 lbs so far, not too bad. So, shortly after the surgery I had this severe pain on the left between the left and center incision. It was like a stabbing, ripping burning kind of pain literally between the 2 incisions to the waist where pants or undies would sit. At times it goes straight through to my back and other times the skin is sooo sensitive pants or undies hurt it. The doc thought it was a muscle tear and sent me for a CT san which I did today.

Got a call from the PA at the doc's office. Scans are negative and she contradicted herself saying in one breath the CT won't show a muscle tear (then why did you send me for this?) and in the next breath that it would show a hernia in the muscle! Makes no sense! GRRRR so she tells me not to do anything...UMMMM life maybe, work, 3 kids, 3 dogs... do nothing??? I said to her that I'm barely doing anything NOW and I can't keep not going to work because I can't get in the car from the pain. I asked again where we go from here and she said, again, not to do anything!!! GRRRR So frustrated..

Its this next part that scared the life out of me... She then tells me to take tylenol and I said, yeah, I have taken some motrin. She gasps and says to never ever take motrin (or aspirin), ummmm ok good time to tell me! That's what I was taking! Ugh She said it will cause bleeding ulcers in the stomach.. GREAT! Now I'm worried as hell that I screwed everything up!! I think I may have taken 1 dose (2 pills) for a total of maybe 5-6 days in the last 8 weeks. OMG now I'm scared of this too! I feel ok, other than this pain and told her so but she said that it takes time for the damage to happen![/background

Now what? I don't know what to do! Did I really screw myself up completely and mess up my sleeve???? HELP! :(

Take a deep breath. many sleeved patients take NSAIDs (Motrin) post op. Some take them multiple times a day. That being said, many surgeons say no NSAIDS ever. I highly doubt you got a bleeding ulcer after a few doses but I'm not a doctor; she should have mentioned that her warning was precautionary.

A slight muscle tear may not show but a large hernia might.

It could be the stitches pulling or maybe there's one rubbing on a nerve. My internal stitches from many csection (4 years ago) still tug and when I sneeze, its a white hot ripping pain that causes me to double over.

My advice, see a different doctor. And calm down. I think that medical professionals sometimes don't realize that not everyone can just lay in bed for 3 weeks. Try a maternity girdle, I wear one when my incisions hurt and it helps. Take it easy as much as possible and get a second opinion. Feel better!

  4. I was sleeved Aug. 15' date=' 2012 and for close to 3 months my whole body aches and my muscles get stiff. I didn't have this problem before surgery. I asked the nurse that I've been working with at the surgery center and she hasn't heard of this happening before. Anyone else have this problem?[/quote']

I've kind of had the same issue. I feel like I have the achy body from the flu. It's become progressively worse since surgery. Doctor is stumped...

  5. Hey there to all the previously sleeved... Would you be so kind as to touch base with us?

    When were you sleeved?

    Who sleeved you?

How much success have you had?

    Any complications (sure hope not)?

    Would you do it again?

    Amanda Rae

Ps: Remember' date=' when you go on hiatus, we worry![/quote']

Sleeved 10/6/12 by Dr Kelly. I'm feeling successful ; I started at 276 and I'm down to 215. The weightloss has definitely slowed down and my sleeve tolerates anything. No complications, but I had way more swelling than most and could not even get the dye down for the swallow test. I would do it again in a heartbeat but only if I omar were still with Dr Kelly. My life is changed completely.

  6. 2.5 months out lost 35 lbs from 253lbs day of surgery. Just not interested in Sex and not even horny!! I know TMI!! But just wondering if anyone else feels the same way! My husband is very frustrated' date=' however I am ok with it. Has anyone else's libido dropped too?[/quote']

Same here. I don't even want people touching me at all. I'm usually that way but it's way worse post op..almost to the point of being an aversion. It's not a germ thing, I just don't want any intimacy at all.

  7. My update.....

I had surgery 10/6 and weighed in at 260. As of yesterday day, I am 220. In the past 2 months, my life has changed completely. I started my dream job, got my first F in a class, broke up with SO and then sort of reconciled (still have issues), found out my grandma may have lung cancer (results tomorrow) and I find myself not handling stress that well. I've kind off been off program, so I started the 5 day pouch test. Hope it helps get me back on track, I feel like I can eat too much.

  8. I dont have anything to add except I commend your strength going through with the surgery. I had Guillen Barre syndrome (think fast acting MS) and I only had to deal with the weakness fatigue etc for a year. I wish everyone the best of luck and my lingering nerve issues have gotten much better as I've lost weight (ironically gained by gabapentin and steroids use).

  9. Don't leave us so soon after your sleeve. We get worried when you disappear!!!

    Amanda Rae

I was sleeved Oct 6th. Since then I'm down almost 50lbs, started my dream job, and am finishing up my classes this semester. Its weird how quickly my entire life has changed. I'm still around but no quite ready to post about success and haven't really had any issues. So, we are still around....

  10. So I just got torn a new one by my family. Summary: I'm a failure in life.

Any who' date=' it is lunch time for me and because I am sad/ just cried, I find myself unable to eat my full serving of lunch as it seems to be almost stuck in my throat. Any amount that I do eat just comes back up.

My question: does being emotional make the sleeve tight? I use to be able to eat my emotions away and now I can't even manage a 1/4 cup of cottage cheese.

    Anyone have anything similar happen?[/quote']

Yes...when things go bad at work or I get into it with my daughters father or family, my stomach clamps shut. I actually could barely drink liquids on thanksgiving because of tension. I haven't found a solution as of yet... I was always the first one to reach for food for comfort.

  11. The first month after being sleeved I never experienced any nausea and I thought I was going to be one of the lucky ones.

In the past few days I've started getting a queasy feeling in my stomach when I eat. I had pretty much eaten cottage cheese every day for 2 weeks and now it not only tastes weird to me' date=' it turns my stomach when I eat it. Same with Soup.< /p>

    Anyone else experience this?[/quote']

Yes.. the first month I could tolerate everything I tried and now I get queasy when I eat. Plus everything has a weird taste. I'm 6 weeks out and thought I had avoided this part.

  12. Hi....so I am really scared that my hair will NOT stop falling out any time soon. It has been happening since 2 months post op. I am now 4.5 months. That equals lots of hair down the drain.

The only thing I want to know is at what point does it stop????

I appreciate those of you that want to give advice....but I am eating enough protein' date=' taking Vitamins and Biotin, using nioxin...doing EVERYTHING that I have ever heard of to help it to stop. It is not stopping....in fact it may be getting worse.

I just would like to know how much longer this will go on.....so if you can just tell me when your Hair loss STOPPED....like 6 months post op? 8 months post op? Big breath......A year?

I have long hair and it is noticeably thinner!!!!!!!!!! People are asking me "did you cut your hair?"......"what did you do different to your hair?".............."is your hair different?".....so I KNOW it is not just me that is noticing.

I used to have thick, beautiful....did I say thick.......... long hair.

It is coming out in giant handfuls.

    WHEN DOES IT STOP????????????????

I know it will grow back...but at this point I will probably have to cut it soon as it just looks ridiculously thin now...... and long and thin hair is NOT a good look.

Please....if anybody has had this experience......just let me know when your hair loss stopped.

    Thanks.[/quote']

My grandma had the RNY and her hair loss and damage was better around 9 months out but she couldn't tolerate Protein or any food til 3 months out...which would be about 6 months for someone with normal recovery. Good luck!!

  13. I wasn't sure to where to post this but has anyone else experienced difficulty eating when stressed? I used to be a stress eater and now my stomach feels upset and crampy when there's tension or strife. I've already spoken to my surgeon and he and I agree this is the cause since swallow test last week was normal and it only happens when my ex fiance(broke up 2 days ago) is around or I have to deal/think about him. Does anyone else notice this problem? If so, does it last forever or did it seem to lessen up the further out from surgery?

    Thank you!

  14. Hello everyone. So I'm going on week 8 post op and today I start solid foods. I don't know how the transition will be from mushies to solids but I do know that I'm not as hung up on eating as I was a couple weeks ago.

With that said' date=' I am still worried because in the past the holidays use to mean eating a lot of food and being lazy. This year I plan to stick to my workout regime but as far as food goes, I'm worried I might over indulge. <_<

So my question is this, what are some tactics to use in order to not slip up? Does anyone have a advice? I'm looking to stay on the right track.[/quote']

My plan is 2oz of moist (www hate that word lol) turkey and literally a baby spoon bite of my other faves. I made cranberry sauce with splenda, low carb pumpkin pie with crushed pecans as the crust and mashed cauliflower/potatoes. I pretty much made healthy substitutions to all dishes so that while I may not be having it all tonight, I don't see any problem in leftovers. I'm excited to not obsess over having to eat everything.

  15. Is anyone aware of any specials running for surgery in December with vsg in mx? Dr. Kelly' date=' Dr. Garcia, Dr. Alvarz, etc...And are surgeries ever done on 24th, 25th, or 31st of December?[/quote']

I heard Dr Kelly may be running a special soon. Not sure about the details though.

  16. I am a registered nurse so i understand pharmacology enough that when i got to the hotel today' date=' the first thing i did was light up! The barium swallow test made me violently retch and this is no good with a new sleeve. Needless to say that now that I can hold something down i feel much better and my bp has dropped frpm 193/100 to 118/72. : )[/quote']

Haha me too! I thought my stomach was jumping out of my body and I expected to find it on the floor.

  17. Lol' date=' I'll try that again......

I was sleeved on 11/13 so I'm officially 5 days out. I've been drinking as much as possible and doing the Popsicle/jello/fudge pop thing. Through this recovery I'm also attempting to go cold turkey with caffeine, soda and chewing tobacco.

The wife was sleeved a week earlier so we are kind of recouperating together.

She has experienced getting full from half a cup of the pre packaged Jello etc but I have yet to FEEL full.... I'm just not sure I'm doing it right.....

Night one in the hospital, I was chewing up and swallowing the ice chips I was given to use to swab my lips etc with while I was technically not allowed to eat or drink anything. I just couldn't help it..... My throat was dry and I was thirsty..... And it didn't seem to hurt my stomach either.

Day 2 at the hospital I was cleared for Clear Liquids and was given a bunch of 1oz cups to keep track. 4oz per hour was not an issue... I was drinking Water, juice cut with Water, broth and tea with lemon. Nothing bothered the sleeve but nothing seemed to fill me up either.

Fast fwd to today.... Still haven't experienced the FULL feeling and even though I'm using baby spoons, the Jello is taking nowhere near a half hour to finish. Maybe 15 mins at most..... Also, my wife and I were "arguing" about protein/vitamins/b12 at this stage of the game..... She feels clear liquids are clear liquids.... Period.

So, what say some of you pro's out there? Any advice for me? Thanks in advance!

    [/quote']

I felt just like you. Everything went down easy and never had trouble with liquids and never felt full. I'm 5 weeks post op. Didn't feel restriction until purees. Honestly, I still don't feel full as in satisfied but I have plenty of restriction. I battle a gnawing hunger feeling all the time and have switched my PPI plenty of times but since I'm still healing, most of my signals are screwed up. I hated when people would say give it time but that's all I can try. Good luck!

  18. I was sleeved Oct 3. Would it be ok to have a beer?

I was sleeved Oct 6th. We're allowed to drink at work after the main doors are locked. I forget that I'm sleeved all the time. I just started this job, so when my boss handed me a beer and toasted me, I took a swing. Then remembered, ran to the sink and spit it out. A tiny bit trickled down my throat and just that small amount felt like death.

  19. To be honest I am not ready to have a baby. I can barely eat with out morning sickness. I am soooo miserble and I don't believe I can be healthy or keep my baby healthy now.... I really need a year or more. Anyway I am overwhelmed right now.

I don't have much advice for pregnancy after vsg but I had morning noon and night sickness all 9 months. I couldn't even keep Water down. I couldn't get Vitamins or liquid down, so I frequented the ER. Ask your ob if they can set up weekly or daily iv fluids and Vitamins. I lost 45 pounds in the first trimester.

All this and my daughter was born healthy (well other than a brain hemorrhage caused by the doctors). But she was fully developed and full term. Find a doctor that specializes in high risk and ask how they would proceed.

Try not to freak out ;). Although I dont blame you if you did.

  20. I'm scheduled for surgery on 11/14....so excited. I read online that you're suppose to wait 4 weeks before having sex. What is the minimum amount that anyone has waited? I'm already having withdrawals just thinking about it.

Umm well my fiance and I were in a nice hotel 3 days post op and since we never get time away from our 3 year old...we took full advantage. I used pillows to brace myself and the positions that work the best are spooning and reverse cow girl.
