  1. So I finally got out there...man was it rough. The ball striking seemed to be decent yet highly inconsistent, but putting was a whole new problem. I'm just so used to resting my arms against my stomach for support that now it feels weird with a lot of my gut gone. My arms feel like they're floating and I have no consistency in my stroke. On the plus side, I walked 18 without feeling like I wanted to die....so I got that going for me. I guess I just need to practice...but I feel like Allen Iverson about practice. Practice?

  2. I've been a fairly avid golfer for over 20 years now. I was still about a 13 handicap when I was up to 360-70. I'm down about 115 pounds now and I've only golfed twice since surgery (not at all in the last 5 months) Does anyone have any suggestions for getting back out on the course. I'm worried my swing will be completely different and was hoping someone had been in the same boat and might have some suggestions for regaining your swing after a major weight loss. Cheers and congrats to everyone who's gone through this....such a better life so far!

  3. I am right there with you. I was sleeved on Aug 28 and have also not lost for about 2 months. I even did a 3 week exercise bootcamp that totally kicked my butt and nothing was lost. At my 5 month follow-up I was told to keep doing what I am and not to worry...easy for them to say :) but they did explain to me that the average is to lose up to 70% of our weight within 2 years and that in 5 months I am at 52% so I was told I am ahead of the game. Any suggestions to break this stall would be very helpful...I plan on getting to the 100% mark of weight lose.

Same here....I stalled for around 2 months and just recently lost another 10 pounds for a total of 112. As I've read many times on this site...even while your not losing weight, you're still losing inches. I received way more compliments during the time I wasn't losing than when I was dropping weight in a hurry. I was feeling like that was it and even told my wife that "maybe this is all I'll lose". But seeing the scale move again was a nice reminder about how good it feels to lose and motivated me to keep pushing towards the goal. With Spring on the way, I have a feeling it will be a lot easier to get exercise with more daylight and better weather. 61 pounds to go!

  4. I started my 3 week liquid diet on 8/7 at 373. Had surgery on 8/28 and I just weighed in at 282. So 90 lbs down with another 80 or so til my goal of 200. I feel so light on my feet its awesome! Not quite floating like a butterfly, but I'm getting there. The cool thing is that I haven't really been avoiding any foods at all. As long as I get my Protein in and work out at least 4 times a week, I seem to lose weight eating small amounts of just about anything including chips, bread, sweets, and an occasional drink or two. Haven't been able to rid of my ferocious sweet tooth quite yet. I've been making little sandwiches on rolls (thanks thanksgiving) and that really makes me feel normal as I've missed normal lunch food. On my way to 100 down by the end of the year which is more than I could have ever hoped for. Best decision ever!

  5. I don't have a NUT or anything like that so I'm on my own on this topic. If you start exercising more (burning between 500-700 calories at a time)....Do you need to consume more calories to prevent your body from going into starvation mode when you don't lose weight? I pretty much eat the same amount every day whether I work out or not....Just curious. Thanks

  6. Could it be the 3 week stall that coincidentally started around the time you started at the gym? I stalled for 2 weeks between the 3rd amd 4th weeks post-op. We're sleeve siblings, I was sleeved on the 28th too!

Sure, I guess that might be it. That's what I'm trying to tell myself anyway...I'm just frustrated that as soon as I started busting my ass in gym, I stopped losing weight. I'm getting my strength back at least. Thanks for the comment 8-28!

  7. I had my surgery on the 8/28 and had lost about 70 pounds (including 32 preop) as of the first week of October. Then I thought I should start hitting the weights and cardio a bit more. I joined the YMCA 3 weeks ago and haven't lost a pound since. I go at least 4 or 5 days a week and usually do just weights 3 days a week. My question is this. Has anyone else started to stall as soon as they starting regularly working out? Is it just a normal stall or have I not lost anything because I'm putting muscle back on that I've lost along the way. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  8. Preop diet @373 on aug 7.

    Sleeved on aug 28 @341

    Currently @305

I have a shake with 30 grams of Protein for Breakfast and then usually a salad with meat or half a Protein Bar for lunch. For dinner just usually 1/2 cup of whatever my wife and kids are having, with meat usually first. snack is usually cheese, Jerky, or a couple of crackers here or there.

I am always hungry and it can get pretty frustrating. I'm trying to achieve my goal in a manner that i believe can be lifelong....so i'm not really avoiding specific foods. If i want something, including a occasional drink....i have one.

I do cardio at least 3 times a week and weight training at least 3 as well. I'm pretty happy about being sleeved...i just wished it curbed my hunger even half as much as i thought it would

  9. When I finally decided to have surgery and picked a date...I ate like a bear before hibernation. I gained like 20 pounds in 2 months (not that I'm recommending that) But I did that knowing that when it was time to get serious, it was time to get serious. My surgeon put my on a three week liquid diet that while not exactly fun, worked great. I lost 30 in 3 weeks and it gave me a running start so to speak. For me, being used to a liquid diet helped a lot because after surgery you stay on it for another 3 weeks. If your surgeon doesn't require a specific diet I'm sure low carb/high Protein would work great, especially since you'll be avoiding carbs for a long time anyway.

  10. I started my 3 week liquid diet on August 7 and lost 31 pounds preop. Down around 34 since surgery on AUG 28 for a total of 65lbs.... Didn't think I could break the 300 lb mark before my wedding next month....but I think I should be in like Flynn.

Staying positive is the one thing I would recommend to anyone going down this road. Dwelling on all the negatives, stalls, foods you miss, are how much further you have to go is just plain crazy. I think the saying is "Rome wasn't built in a day"..................I actually prefer "When in Rome" as far as Rome quotes go...but it didn't really apply. Cheers on all the pounds dropping all over this site.

  11. I started my 3 week preop diet at 373 on August 7. I had surgery on 8/28 at 342 and this morning weighed in at 312. So 61lbs! The only problem I'm having is that I ALWAYS feel hungry. I hope that will go away soon....but I'm firing on all cylinders right now. Just waiting for my first plateau to test my mental strength.

  12. This might not sound like the best advice...especially from a guy. But it worked for me. I got a prescription for Ambien right before I started my 3 week liquid preop diet. Instead of being irritable and annoying the crap out of my wife every night...I just took an Ambien and went to sleep. I used the same approach to quit smoking before surgery as well. Probably not the best advice, but its probably different than any other advice you'll get. Good luck.

You usually lose so much the first week or so that it tends to cheer you up a bit as well.

  13. I was sleeved on Aug 28. I started my 3 week preop liquid diet on 8/07 at 373. I weighed in this morning at 321 so I"m down 52 all together in under 6 weeks! i found pre packaged Protein Shakes at costco that have 30 grams of Protein a piece. I have one of those in the morning and one in the afternoon and I"m done worrying about protein for the day. Its the best. I don't even start soft foods until later next week...and I can't wait. Sorry to hear about the struggles of some others sleeved in august. I"m just following my surgeons instructions to the tee and I feel great.

  14. You are flying in on the 26th? Maybe we will see each other then. BUt yes, You will probably see me shuffling down the hall with my IV pole : )

Today is day 1 of the liquid diet.. I have to do 10 days. I have been drinking Protein shakes for Breakfast for about a week now, and sometimes for lunch, so THAT part isn't too much of a shock. dinner.. now that will be tricky. How are you doing on the preop?

If you don't have food around to tempt you....its a lot easier. This is day 11 for me and I had been doing supreme. Then my kids birthday party happened Wednesday and I was surrounded by chips, pizza, and cake. I had 1 little piece of pizza and 3 doritos and they were FANTASTIC but boy do I feel guilty. I just have done a little more excercise to justifiy it in my head. On the list of foods you can eat is a can of 98% fat free Soup. I'm not ashamed to say I wouldn't have succeeded at all if it wasn't for my new friend Cream of chicken with a can of nonfat milk and seasoning salt. I look forward to that every night.

Other than that the liquid diet is going good. I'm down 19 pounds so far. All I know is that if I don't get any excecise I have ZERO energy. I have to stay busy doing something active or I think I'd go crazy. Sorry to ramble so much. Good Luck with the liquid diet

  15. Flying into San Antonio on the 26th and having surgery with Dr Alvarez on the 28th. Its so reasuring to hear so many wonderful things about him. He even responds to my tweets...answering every question I have. Good luck to everyone . Three week liquid diet is kicking my ass even as I write this. 10 lbs down 3 days into the liquid diet so far.....still got 175 to go though. Thanks for everyone's posts
