  4. Was your performed at a dr office or hospital? I'm watching the charges roll Into my insurance the last week. I had mine at a hospital as out patient. It's almost 11k worth of charges so far! I think that's crazy! I was under for 8 minutes! My sis had one about a year or two ago at an office and I just found out hers was only 2k. I know I won't owe that 11k but a percentage. But to me that's still crazy!

Where Did You Have Your Egd?

No reason to be sorry . I'm just shocked at how much they are charging. Was curious if this is standard. No wonder out system is so screwed up.

    Post Egd: Pain Under Chin?

Yes! I experienced that as well the next day. My guess is the dr was probably holding our mouths while we were knocked out. Made the muscles sore. But I'm just guessing.

    Egd

Mine was the same as Boston George. Only difference was they gave me Propofol to knock me out. I bring that up bc I too was FREAKING put about my egd. Mainly bc I had never been knocked out before. When the dr was trying to calm me Down before he started he made a terrible joke and said 'don't worry Michael Jackson used Propofol'. And thn I said yeah but he never woke up! Everyone laughed and he started and it was over literally in 10 minutes. It's a piece of cake and I too wish someone told me what the above poster said. Good luck.

    Psych Eval

I had to take the t/f test. Mine was around 338 questions or something like that. He said I passed with no problems. I also had a sit down meeting with him right after to discuss my fam, support system, how long I've been overweight etc.

    Egd Update -- My Saga

  12. So i had my follow up apt with the surgeon today to discuss my EGD findings. He showed me the scope pictures and pathology report. He said my pipes are textbook clean with the exception of one very tiny area that was slightly inflamed but just barely noticeable. That's where he took the biopsy from and that came back positive for Barrett's. Inhad no dysplasia or scaring which is awesome. He is against doing the surgery on me if I have Barrett's due to the fact if I develop esophagus cancer down the road you need your stomach so that they can remove te cancer and then make a new esophagus out of you stomach. But our plan right now is to treat the barrett's/reflux for two-three months and then rescope to see if maybe the first test was wrong. He is sending me to a different doctor to do the second scope. He keeps saying I'm such a great candidate for the surgery but he is being very conservative and feels very strongly about this being a contraindication to the sleeve. And for that I appreciate him that much more. Even though it's going to make my process a bit longer. He did state that he has had patients whos test first showed barretts and then later it didn't. Thanks to everyone who has helped me on the couple threads I posted and also those that have emailed me. I truly appreciate it. I'll see ya around.

    Endoscopy - A Little Frustrated!

My surgeon at my consult said that some people that have reflux/gerd going into surgery that sometimes it can get worse after surgery. That's probably why the did your scope. To see how bad it is. My dr called me last week ad told me from my biopsy that I have Barrett's which in the medical field is a contraindication to having sleeve. But I have found online just over a dozen people who had Barrett's prior to surgery and were still able to get sleeved. I meet with the dr tomorrow! I'm so nervous. Good luck to you and keep us posted.
  15. Good luck!!!! I'm the same as you. Up until my egd on the 21st of last month I've never been knocked out before. I have had IV's before. Good luck so excited for you.

    Endoscopy - A Little Frustrated!

What is the test they want to do? H pylori? I know my dr checked for that during my egd. But my office also does some sort of oral test to also check for that. But you can't take ppi for a least a week before.

When Should I Tell My Boss?

I told mine as a heads up that I will be having surgery before the end of the year and that I will be out for 2-3 weeks. And I left it at that. That way they are not shocked when I do/if I get a date. They had plenty of notice.
  18. i always forget about torrid. maybe because i have a lb credit card
  19. i completely agreewith what you said. what i also hate is that their prices are a complete rip off. just cause we are fluffy doesnt mean they have to gouge us with the prices. i was there about 2 weeks ago and this little see through shirt was 70$! if i had the money i would open up a fluffy store and not only would it be cheaper but the clothes would be cute and fit correctly. not all big girls have a dd! . me and my little b's can never find a cute fitted shirt there because they are all made for big chested women. and me, not so blessed in that department

Thanks to everyone who has helped me on the couple threads I posted and also those that have emailed me. I truly appreciate it. I'll see ya around. I''m anxiously awaiting my appointment Thursday morning to find out my options after being diagnosed with barrett's last Tuesday. After much reading and researching the past week I'm hopeful that I can still get the sleeve done but also trying to not get my hopes up. Depending on what happens Thursday I may also go for a second opinion. Please keep me in your prayers if you think of it and pray that I can do this as I do NOT want rny. I'm hoping that if I agree to yearly scopes and ppi for the rest of my days that I can still have it done. Thanks to all who helped me and gave me advice and shared personal stories. I was a basket case last week as my little world came crashing down. I really thought this was the answer to my weight struggle and maybe it still is. Have to wait 3 more days On a side note that egd was expensive! Thank god for insurance. I was floored at how much they billed to bcbs. An maybe my whole purpose on this journey was to find out I have Barrett's. I'm hoping it's that plus a sleeve but we shall see Thanks again everyone!

    Longest Week Of My Life

I get migraines and was told that with rny you can't take NSAIDs but can with sleeve (this seems to change depending on dr). I also don't like the idea of dumping and purposely rerouting my intestines to malnurish myself. I like the sleeve because it will give me restriction that i need but allow me to still eat and hopefully not have any malabsorption issues. For me personally it just seems like the better option.

    I Need To Lose 20Lbs

I haven't done my preop diet yet but my dr requires a 15 liquid that consists of 5 protein shakes and all the water you want. Sounds delish right? Haha
  23. My egd biopsy reported that I have Barrett's esophagus. I know nothing right now other than that and it's a contraindication of the sleeve. So i will not e getting surgery. I have to go see my surgeon about other options. Not really sure what those options are as I now can't do lap band either and I do NOT want rny. So I feel very lost and like the last couple month have been a total waste of my time and money. On the plus side I learned I have this and have to keep an eye on it. But I feel very upset and just lost. Lost on how to lose this weight that I need to so very desperately.

Well That's That! So Upset Right Now

From what i have been readin (i still have not mwt with my surgeon to discuss what to do). But what I have gathered is Barrett's is a precancerous condition caused by excessive reflux. If you are that 20% whose reflux gets worse after vsg and makes the reflux makes Barrett's condition turn into dysphasia and they have to remove part of your esophagus. From what I have been reading is they can't after vsg. Like I said I haven't talked to my surgeon about this since I got te phone call. I see him a week from today. I can report back after. There are some people on here who I have spoke to who have Barrett's and still got vsg.
