    Newbie looking for guidance

I'm 7 weeks postop today and by no means do I know it all. I can only tell you what I experienced. I had a hard time up until recently getting in all my fluids everyday. I could only sip and I think my body wanted to drink more at a time and then I would forget or just not push the liquids enough. I never got dehydrated but I know I was not getting enough. For me it took time to be able to get that in. Www. Emily bites. Com and www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com are great sites for recipes. Shelly on egg face had rny and her site is all about a day in her pouch (what she eats). Lots of helpful stuff out there. I'm now on full foods. Something I can eat more of somethings less of. Some days I don't eat a lot. Some days I'm starving all the time. I'm just learning to read my body and know if it's head hunger or am I hungry. I know some sleevers say they aren't hungry. I think they're full of crap lol. No but for real I do get hungry and sometimes will push it off to see if it passes and I undoubtedly will get sick to my stomach and feel like I'm going to pass out. Happened yesterday. So I'm still learning my new tummy and finding what works for me. You'll learn everyone is different. What one person likes you may not. Which is true with most things pre sleeve too but.... Hmmm not sure what else to tell you. Sounds like your on a great start to your new life! Let me know if I csn help at all.

    Am I approved?

Woohoo! Congrats! That's so exciting. I know when I got approved in October I was shaking I was so thrilled.
  3. i too was diagnosed with tachycardia. i had to wear a holter monitor for 30 days for palpitations. and it was determined that i had pcv's and periods of tachycardia. mine was mainly due to anxiety and sometimes it would happen with exertion. but i was sleeved 12/10 and it was never an issue. and the monitor was unrelated to the sleeve. i was complaining to my pcp about the palps and he ordered the holter.
  4. Hubs and I and another couple went to dinner last Saturday night. I always dreaded being seated in a booth bc i was always snug or my belly touched the table. As I gained more weight I found it hard to hold my head over the table when I ate bc my tummy was holding me back. Well we got seated in a booth Saturday. I cringed at first and thought... No I got this. We then started to eat... I looked down... My tummy was not touching the table and I had extra room! I was so excited. Just had to share.

    Sleeved with a toddler?

How old is your little one and are they fairly independent? My almost 3 year old I had no problems with post op (sleeved 12/10/12). But she's in a toddler bed, potty trained and can climb up into her booster at the kitchen table. So honestly I didn't really have to pick her up much at all. I also only had one incision so I didn't have too much pain. If yours still needs to be picked up a lot then you might want to get someone to help. Just my opinion.

    how did your EGD go?

I had two, one September 21 and another November 19 to rule out barretts esophagus. They are a piece of cake. Procedure is literally maybe 10 minutes unless they find polyps or something that need removal. But after Iv and being wheeled down I remember talking to the Dr, nurse etc. He asked if I had any questions, I told him I was nervous bc i had never been knocked out b4. He assured me all would be fine they were giving me propofol (sp?) to knock me out. I must have given him a weird look cause he then said "don't worry Michael Jackson used this", I said well mj died using that so that's not very comforting . It was funny. But I said I was ready, everything faded and I woke up in recovery. Had to stay for an hour in recovery and then went home. Had a bit of a sore throat but nothing terrible. Was more like it was dry. As far as a standard practice, my understanding is if you have reflux or Gerd prior to surgery they do an egd to check the lining of the stomach. Bc some people get reflux/Gerd post op and if you have existing damage some doctors won't do the sleeve then.

    Sleeve complications!

I am so sorry you are having to go through this torture. I have no advice other than maybe seeing a different doctor? Although I know sometimes we get comfy with who we have and they know our history but this is your life. Maybe someone else out there has answers for you. I hope the stretching works and all is better on Monday! I will keep you in my prayers.

Can you chew sugar free gum?

I'm not telling you to chew it but... I was sleeved 12/10 and have been chewing gum since day 2 postop. It doesn't bother me and I don't get gas from it. I also couldn't tell you the last time I swallowed a piece of gum so I'm not too worried about that. It helps me during the day.

How long did you take off work?

I have a desk job and took two weeks. I probably could have went back at one week as I had no pain from surgery but I was so tired for 3 weeks post op. Glad I took those two weeks to rest. Everyone is different though.

    Im a basket case

my personal opinion is that if you didnt have some sort of second guessing that would be not normal. this is a huge decision and only one that you can make for yourself. i was so excited for surgery up until 2 days before and then it turned to fear, scared, excited, emotional, every emotion in the book i was feeling. partially because i have a 2 year old. i was so scared that i would be leaving her without a mommy. but looking back (surgery was 12/10) i was lucky and had no complications, other than some nausea right after surgery and my tummy swelled and i had to stay in the hospital for an extra day. im now down 24lbs since surgery, 57 total and i couldnt be happier. i am on foods now and learning what i can and cant eat. its been great. you definitely have to do what is right for you and no one can figure that out except for you. but i can guarantee that almost everyone on this board has second guessed themselves prior to surgery and had the "can i lose the weight without surgery?". my opinion is yes you probably can, but will it stay off? that is where i always went arye. good luck in your soul searching!

    Incisions

i'm a little over a month out. definitely going to scar but i had single site sleeve so its in my belly button. once my tummy gets tight (hopefully) you might see the tail end of it coming out the bottom of my button but might not be too noticeable.

    Side sleeper

i was sleeping on my side in the hospital. i just tucked a pillow under my tummy to help ease any pain. but i didnt really have any pain post op. only had one incision. but i would say as soon as its comfy for you, go for it

    pounds lost vs. inches lost

I had the same thing happen except I am 5'8 and Dos 12/10 I was 300lbs. I went in for a Check up last week on the 9th, almost one month from surgery and was down 20lbs. And my Dr was not happy with my weight loss. I don't ever recall a time when I lost 20lbs in a month and kept it off. I'm down 55 total since I started this. I'll take it!
