    Struggling--cheating pre op

Congrats on your new journey. If you can't do the pre op how will you do the post op? I was so afraid of what bad things could happen I never did one thing wrong. I sat in restaurants and watched people eat while I had hot tea. Maybe try a different shake. I drink chocolate with a little decaf instant coffee and some peppermint extract and tons of ice. Makes the best thick shake. I have been having them for over two years and I am not tired of them. Good luck. Maybe call your dietitian or doctors office.

    Does anyone eat pizza?

Me again. Where I live south of Boston we have bar pizza. Small thin crust cooked in a pan. I use to eat 1-2 pizzas. Now I eat 1/2, 3 slices. They also make it "diet" thinner crust which is even better. Because there is almost no protein I don't eat it as much. I eat Chinese food. Today for lunch we are going to a Japanese steak house. Just eat smart. A dietitian told me that.

    Does anyone eat pizza?

Yes I do. My doctor isn't thrilled either. I use to have it a few times a week now about 1-2 times a month. Usually 1 -2 slices of cheese thin crust. Chew chew chew.

    Plateau? Get Over It!

Thank you. I have been at a plateau for 6-10 months. I am not perfect but I am not giving up. Every day I say today will be perfect again then I eat something bad again. I have to get strong.

Want to hear from those over 65

I was a little younger. I had the band at almost 62. The best thing I did for ME!! I have Medicaid They paid 100% and no questions asked. I went to a big Boston hospital and they knew what to do. Good luck.

    Sweets

I have the band. I don't know much about the sleeve. Sorry

    Sweets

My second out of three, dietitians told me there are no, no no 's, just be smart. I have Godiva dark chocolate almond bark in my house. One piece of Candy did not make us fat, the whole candy store made me huge. I know I don't do well getting rid of my triggers. Bread is #1 so I have it in restaurants only. Good luck. If you look at candy with sugar is sometimes less carbs.

    Apparently I disappointed someone...

You're great !!! Bite me was the best
  12. That is sad. I have monthly support meetings. I had to go before the band. I have missed maybe 3 in 2 1/2 years. They include all WLS The nurse is there , dietitian and the office coordinator Most meetings include a guest speaker. We also do a lot of question and answers. I have one Thursday night. I see my doctor every 3 months now, not a nurse. Well she is there but my doctor is the only person that does fills. Maybe time for a new doctor. I am in Boston. We have wonderful hospitals.

    no more band

My husband can't have tubes. For a surgery it took over 1 hour to get the tube down. After the surgery his throat was a mess for about 6 months. I hope you feel better.
  14. I am sorry to hear this. I hope the dietitian can help you. I have gained about 5-9 pounds lately and it sucks. My go to food was and is bread. I try not to have any good ones in the house but restaurants I do love it. Maybe have someone do your food shopping. I wish you good luck. Now that spring is more or less here take walks

2 yrs in, no weight loss!

I love my breakfast shakes. I use 8 oz milk, 1 scoop whey Protein in chocolate , a little decaf instant coffee, about 1 table spoon peppermint extract and tons of ice. I have been drinking these for 2 years. They fill me for 3-5 hours. Maybe time to see a dietitian also. Good luck.

    April Fitness Challange!

That is great. I can't use an elliptical or tread mill because of knees and back. Also I read somewhere that ellipticals are not great for your body because you weren't meant to walk like that. Maybe that is why I can't use one. I am an outsider when it comes to them.

Hair loss with band vs. sleeve

I don't know if it matters which you choose. I had a cousin that had by pass maybe 25-30 years ago before they knew things and she went bald. Since then they know protein helps. I do have the band and my husband said I had hair loss in a very tiny section but you had to look for it. I now take biotin Good luck. Do what will make you happy. Not your doctor not friends or anyone on this site. It's your body not theirs.
  18. I never looked into any research. My lung doctor made my appointment and said you are getting the band. I found this site after the surgery. I love my band. I did not want my insides cut/removed either. Good luck with your new journey and only you can decide what is perfect for your life and body. Just remember all WLS is a tool and people have failed with all if them, too.

    Shoe size?!?!

This is a funny large size shoe story. Many moons ago, maybe 20ish, I was on the computer, before Zappos, before Amazon, I put on the search engine, large size shoes for women. So I got some company and the shoes looked just ok, then it showed men in women's high heels. So I decided to leave the site and on the screen came a pop up that said why was I leaving the site. I turned off the computer. That scared the sh*t out of me. In a burp of Boston, MA is a store called Panza and they have wonderful large size shoes and they will order for you too. Because I had broken a few toes about 3 years ago and they never recovered I have been wearing SAS, they are the most comfortable but ugly shoes or the ones I have because I need boxy toes. Doctor's orders. Their sandals are extremely comfortable, too, you can wear them for 10 hours without pain. Those aren't as ugly. Have a great day everyone.

    Shoe size?!?!

I wear a size 12. Before the band a w now a m. I have no problem finding a 12. It's the prices that scars me. Nordstrom has wonderful shoes. Easy spirit. I got easy spirit knee high boots on their site for $50. Yesterday. Regular $189. I am from Boston and the new balance outlet is not too far and I buy sneakers there for $13. To $75. Good luck shoe shopping.

    Here I go!

Good luck with your new journey. I love the band. I never looked into it because my lung doctor told me I was getting it and set up my appointment. I found this wonderful site after the surgery. Are you allowed different protein shakes? I use 8 oz milk. Body Fortress in chocolate , a little decaf instant coffee, a little peppermint extract and tons of ice. The shakes are thicker than McDonalds. I have them every day for breakfast for 2 years now.

    New here...need some advice.

You are doing great with your weight loss. I live in Boston and my husband went to the Mad Russian to quit smoking. He needed to go 2-4 times but smoked 4-6 packs a day. That is not a number mistake. I never smoked. Good luck

Myth Busting: My Top 5 Weight Management Myths

I am happy you drink tea. Between iced and hot I have around one gallon a day. I brew my own decaf iced. I am not a soda drinker. Many years ago I over did it.

    Ignorance regarding weight loss surgery

Good for you!!! WLS is not the easy way out. It is a tool to help make better eating choices. Your sons will be happy having a healthy mommy around longer.
