  1. Don't mean to be rude but what us DS? I have the band and love it. Some people with high BMI do get the band also. Good luck with whatever WLS you decide on
  2. Good luck. When I was getting ready with all my pre ops I started having the protein shakes for breakfast. That was March and the surgery was the end of July. By the surgery I had lost 28 lbs by giving up my bad breakfast foods. I don't miss them at all after almost 2 years. I still have a shake every day.

I hate the media and how they treat Morbidly Obese People!

I saw it on the computer It is wonderful to lose all that weight but not pleasant to look at the excess skin. I know my excess is gross and wouldn't want people looking at it. Just another persons opinion.
  4. Use a heating pad. That helped me a lot. Congrats on your new journey. I love my band.

Mother in law passed last week

Sorry to hear that. You are a wonderful person for being her care giver Arlene

    Melon and greens

I have them both. I usually have a salad every day. I have been having melon too. I can't eat pineapple anymore. Too stringy. I buy in the jar mandarin oranges. I love them. I hate the canned ones though. Not cheap, around $3-4 per jar depending on the store. Ask your doctor. I have been banded for 21 months.
  7. Still happens to me after almost 2 years sometimes. I take liquid Colace and powdered Miralax. Both are prescriptions You are on liquids so it may not be hard for a while. My thoughts are when in doubt call your doctor. They know best. Good luck

    Do any of you...

Never. I was almost 62 when I got the band. So I would say I failed many many times.

Don't know if this is normal?

After I get a fill I am on liquids for 3 days, mushy for 3 days and then my regular foods. I find when I am over hungry I get stuck because I eat too fast. Happened 3 times last week. I get up and walk around. It happened in restaurants. I left my husband sitting alone but when I felt better I rejoined him. Remember chew chew chew. God luck. Feel better
  10. I think this week I had at least one meal a day in a restaurant. Yes I ate too fast at least 3 times and had to walk until I felt better. Today I had lunch and dinner out. My husband and I love eating out. Tonight I had wonderful grilled salmon. My son finished it after he ate his. Then finished my husbands fish and his wife's. Yes he is obese. At least everything was fish.

been a while since I wrote

Happy Marathon Monday from Boston. We are BOSTON STRONG!! Info about Boston. The Marathon is always run the closest Monday to April 19th, that is Patriot's Day. In MA it is a holiday and also school vacation. Our spring vacations are not around Easter but this week only. The wheel chair racers started, then the women and finally the men. They have all started. This is a very important day in Boston. For WLS people, every day is an important day, why? because we are all running with our new journey. I am far from a perfect Bander. I eat wrong but my band does say, Arlene, stop eating. This past week I had two stuck dinners. Ate too fast and too much. But I am the marathoner and I will not let this stop my journey. I have been too good with the gym either and my legs were tired yesterday. I thought I would do 5 minutes on the bike. My friend was there, so we talked and before I knew it, I did 11 minutes. It felt great!! Today is my MIL's 91st birthday and we are taking her out for Japanese food for lunch. One of the steak house restaurants. I will have shrimp, a filet, veggies and a little rice and I will feel good about my choices. Well, I hope everyone in WLS land has a wonderful Patriot's Day. That was when the battle of Lexington and Concord happened. In June we have Bunker Hill Day. In March was evacuation day which was also St. Patrick's Day. Boston has a lot of history days. I went to Boston public schools and those were no school days. Enjoy the spring day. Arlene
  15. This is an amazing question with even more amazing answers. I was and still obese because I eat because I am bored. I always was told by my Navy father from WWII you finish everything on your plate. I love food. Bread is my down fall. I use to eat basketfuls of bread and still can. It's awful. In 2 weeks I see my doctor and want a fill. I haven't had one since last summer, I think. I need to move more. Have a great week everyone. Arlene
  16. Thank you. That was great. Makes me want to be better
  17. How is Missy? I miss her a lot.

Didn't plan this day too well

I remember my first real food. I was at a restaurant and ordered meatballs. I took a long time to eat and enjoy them. They were great. I couldn't even finish 2 if them. That was 1 1/2 years ago. Enjoy every bite, slowly and chew chew chew. Remember those 3 words for every bite you take. Good luck. Remember it's a new journey and WLS is a tool not a cure all over night.

Rosie O'Donnell new pics posted today

I love Rosie. Many years ago I saw her in Atlantic City. She was super. I don't follow others politics unless it hurts me. I think it's great she is getting healthier.

    Giving my concerns a voice!

I have had 3 different dietitians. The 2nd I liked the best. She said there are no no-nos. just eat smart. I try but am not perfect. My band does tell when to stop. Tonight I took a small bite of my husbands RingDing. It was awful and too sweet. Even though I live with my husband I cook different meals most nights. He does not eat meats only fins and feathers. Last night I had ribs that I made. Tonight was meatballs. I make enough for many meals and use a food saver. Wonderful investment. Good luck with your journey. Go to meetings. I go every month for 2 1/2 years now even though July is my 2nd bandersary.

After three days I'm still ticked at my husband!

Happy 30th. I am going on 44 this year. For my 25th he made a big surprise party. For our 29th he surprised me with what he called a tennis bracelet ring. I wanted an all diamond band. Now because of money I get a kiss but I still have him! We use take 2 huge vacations a year and a weekend away once month when our sons were living with us. We lost our factory after 9/11 and things went down from there. But we don't argue unless it's because of one of our sons. Another story. He is married with sons. In other words you have someone who loves you. He is there for you. My husband hates cards, receiving and giving. Calls it Hallmark holidays Arlene

    Milk ... need thoughts

I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk in my shakes every morning for breakfast. I also take calcium pills. Best is to ask your doctor or dietitian. They know best for you

    ashamed and frustrated

I realized the other night when I put on a pair of pants to wear for Passover they were just as tight as last year. That means I have lost no weight in 1 year. I see my doctor in 2 weeks. I know I eat wrong and don't move enough but I am less than I was when I started. Good luck. I think it's wonderful you are seeing your doctor.

Four Days Post OP and Banded

Congratulations on your new journey. I love my band. Does your doctor know about Advil ? I was told that banders can never have them. Also no pills just chewables.
