Feeling guilty for living in Florida...

I live south of Boston. Went out around noon, heavy rain. Came home an hour later, heavy snow. Enough of this s**t!! Snow, whatever. Drive safe everyone.

    111 Days 'til June

Hi Bandista. I play poker on Poker Stars, I play too much and too often. I was playing with a man whose wife was in that Peterborough factory yesterday. She got burnt a little but was home at 8ish pm when we were playing. His wife had just left that room minutes before the explosion. How far away are you from there? I wonder if they took them to the Peterborough hospital. I always liked it when my son was at camp but that was over 15 years ago. When my son broke his arm at Pat's Peak, they sent us to Concord and they were fine there but then we went to our own doctor in Boston. Stay warm. Thursday we are getting snow, then rain south of Boston. I have to take my brother and SIL to the airport at 11:00 am during the mess. It showed NH getting another foot. Poor you and Jim and Kelli. Have a great day. Arlene

That's great -- you are going to have a blast! Check out Vionics shoes. Imagine an orthopedic insert, like a custom orthotic, made into a strappy little sandal. That's exactly what these are. They even have dressy ones with a slight heel. Company used to be Orthaheel and now called Vionics. I also just ordered sandals from Sole, the company that makes those red inserts. So great for lining up foot with knee and hip. Essential! The Sole inserts are great in sneakers and "whole" shoes, etc., but they also make a flip-flop. Not as glam as the Vionics line but the footbed is a teeny bit higher, more extreme for getting that arch arching right. I know, I sound like a shoe salesman. thank you for the shoe advice. I have large feet and broke a bunch of toes a few years ago and I am going to look them up.

    I'm here

Hello everyone. I have been reading everything but just haven't written much. I am busy with my family. My 95 year old mother's mind is getting worse. Last week she didn't recall my name. That sucks. My mentally challenged brother, he is 6 years older than me, is a handful. Tomorrow we are looking into adult day care for him. I hope it works. Today my oldest son is 39. Can't believe I have a child that old. I baby sat his son, Max the other night. Max is 14 months and priceless. Laughs, yells and loves to eat fruit. I belong to a gym and Friday was my first time there since November. I went yesterday and today and I feel much better about me. It was like starting over again. I went slow and didn't push myself but loved it. Do you know what you call people like me that pay and don't go to the gym?, profit! My husband won't get off his fat ass and go with me. A high school friend posted this, funny and dumb: I want to die like my grandfather, in my sleep, no pain not yelling and screaming like the people in his car. I have a weird sense of humor. Before the band my tops were either a 2 or 3 xl plus size woman's. Yesterday I bought a new sweat shirt, size misses large! Yeah! me! Now to just get rid of the muffin top which is my largest part of the body. Everyone have a great week. Thursday, Boston is either getting lots of snow or rain. They don't know yet. Arlene

    111 Days 'til June

By the summer I would love to wear a size 12 or less and have less spare tire. The spare is huge and because of that I need larger size tops. But yesterday I bought a size Large sweat shirt!! Friday I went back to the gym after not going since November. It is like starting over again. I need to take care of me, now. We NE people need to get warm and stop this snow and ice. You must be colder than me and I am around 25-30.

    Pre-surgery lap band fears

Hello and welcome. The band is the best thing I have done for me and my health. I had problems and my lung doctor has his assistant make an appointment with the surgeon and said to me, you are getting this. I never asked any questions, I never looked on line and I didn't find this site until after I had the band. Maybe not knowing was the best way, I don't know. I have been banded for 1 1/2 years and have lost 75-80 pounds depending on the day. I am 63, married, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother to 3 wonderful boys and I can move around better than I could at 50. I have been over weight most of my life off and on. I would like to lose 40-50 more but my doctor thinks I am great where I am. Do it for you, your health and not your friends. We are all here to help you and hopefully we can answer all your questions. Good luck. Arlene

Feeling guilty for living in Florida...

I am from Boston. Every winter my husband says this is our last winter here. I agree but don't have the money to be a snowbird. All our family is here.

My thoughts on: The Biggest Loser Finale

I love the show and love seeing how the people end up. I do think Jillian is a bully, a lot of the time. I know I wouldn't want her to be my trainer. Rachel did go over board to win the money. But then she was a swimmer, so maybe this weight is normal for her younger self.

    6 months post-op update

Thank you for telling about the shoulder pain. I was convinced I need shoulder surgery. You just saved me from a MRI and doctor's appointments. I have had 3-4 fills for a total of 2.2 and my doctor said I don't need more. Every doctor is different.

    NEED HELP PLEASE!

I burp and fart all the time. I have been told that comes with the band. Maybe tomorrow have easy foods. Shakes , soups. Things like that. Good luck with the new doctor.

    Help

Have you gone to any meetings? They explain the different types. Also the support groups are great because the people will tell you what is good or bad about each type of surgery. Good luck. I have the band and love it. Nothing is removed and the band can get removed or replaced if needed.

What to eat from Chinese reataurant?

In Keene at mill there was a super Chinese restaurant. Is it still there?

What to eat from Chinese reataurant?

I have Chinese food all the time. Usually shrimp and veggies with brown rice. I eat spare ribs too. Where I live they serve combo plates all day so I bring 1/2 home. I don't do soup but they say hot and sour is a good choice.

    Pre-Op Diet Starts Today

Good luck with your new journey. I don't recall which WLS you're having. I got the band right before I was 62. The best thing I ever did. I wish I knew about it many years ago.
  15. So today would have been my parents 74th wedding anniversary. My father died at 89, almost 90 April, 2006. My mother is 95, good to decent health but the mind is gone, full blown dementia. I saw her yesterday and she hates to be bathed, needs to wear Depends and won't. She wears a huge gold ring and while lashing out broke her finger and won't let us cut the ring off. I tried to talk to her, forget it. At 4ish am this morning she fell. She wasn't great getting an x-ray. Don't know yet if she broke anything. Ok, now my rant!! Why is it we can put our beloved pets to sleep and not our parents/spouse or whoever, who is suffering?????????? When my father was dying, my mother, age 87, bathed him, cleaned him, spoon fed him and every day she would say, "Today is a good day for a funeral, Melvin, close your eyes". My mother is that way and if she saw the way she is, she would try to kill herself, I know that. Sorry, but I needed to voice my thoughts. My oldest brother feels the same way as I do. It is enough for our wonderful mother. She was great!! When I see her she always says who is watching the boys. I keep telling her they are 35 & 39. She thinks they are still very young. Sad. Thank you for listening to me. I hope you all don't have to deal with all this. I also have a brother, 69, I am the very youngest of 3, who is mentally challenged . He lives alone but I take care of him. He has type 1 diabetes and takes 4 shots a day and he doesn't get it. I try to explain and help. I have a full plate with family. Everyone enjoy your day. Stay warm. Arlene
  16. My oldest brother once went to a meeting/talk about dealing with old age parents. The speaker said that to keep the mind going, math helps. My mother would take 3 packages of the same item and in her head would tell which size to buy. It was like it happened over night. She fell and then went back home and that was over 4 years ago. She took care of and spoiled my brother who is mentally challenged. He is now our problem. He is mentally around 12, which when you see others, that is great. When he was 8 months he got the measles and it destroyed 1/2 his brain. I hope I am never like this when I get that age.
  17. my mother use to say when she was around 85 that she, my father and brother should go on a bus and let the bus go over the cliff. My SIL added her father (he is now 96)to the list and my husband added his mother (90) to the list. It is funny but not funny.
  18. thank you. My mother is going to the hospital tonight because she did break something and they want to check her out better.
  19. Maybe see your dietitian and start that way. Also see your doctor to make sure your band is correct. Good luck

    Starving!

Congratulations and good luck with the band and your new journey. I only do chocolate shakes. I use 8 oz of unsweetened vanilla almond milk, 1 scoop of powder (I use Body Fortress-under $17.) about 1 tea. of decaf instant coffee, about 1 tea. of peppermint extract and lots of ice and my shakes are great and very very thick like McDonald's or Wendy's. I have a small Hamilton Beach blender (under $20.) that is also the drinking cup. I have been drinking these for breakfast for almost 2 years and love them. For ice, I have small ice cube trays so that the cubes are extremely small. I bought them at Bed Bath and Beyond for around $3. I use 1 whole tray for every shake. Good luck and enjoy your shakes.

    Hiatal hernia and banding

I also had the hernia repaired and don't recall any real pain other than the gas. I used a heating pad for that and tried to walk a lot. Besides the hernia my stomach was in the wrong place and that was moved. I also have a lump just above the belly button and was told it was an umbilical hernia and was going to have the doctor just keep cutting and fix that too but he said it wasn't one. He explained that it's like having a six pack and my insides want to push threw. So when I go for a TT, I hope it can be done together. Good luck with everything.

Things are not as they appear

You're doing great and look super. Kim K was on JKL last night. her ass is massive and who ever dresses her needs to be fired. Her ass was too large and gross for her body hugging outfit with the belly hanging out. Have fun at the gym.

    another 'new' weight loss device

Good evening. I was watching the local news, Boston, and they showed a new device from England. It is a pill you swallow and it blows up into a balloon. The balloon stays in your stomach and takes up room for around 3 months and you lose about 20 pounds. After they deflate the balloon your stomach is back to where it always was. It cost around 5k!!! It will be tested in the USA soon. Bad idea, sorry, don't like it. This is as bad as sewing mesh on your tongue for a month. When are they going to stop with dumb s**t??????? But then that is how people make money, millions of dollars. I love my band and today it really did it's job when I was bad. Thanks band for reminding me to stop and eat smart. Now if the band could say, Arlene get off your fat ass and get to the gym, then I would be more in love.

    WLS and Self-perception

Congratulations on your journey. After 1 1/2 years of having the band, I still see fat me. My clothes are no longer plus size but I see huge me. I was watching the Biggest Loser last night, it was make over night. Amazing when you clean up people and get them out of work out clothes how great they looked. Keep up the great work. Maybe you can talk to someone at the doctor's office about still seeing the heavier version of you.

    Dammit Gym, I'm a Walker!

You did great and I am so the same way. The gym where I go, I haven't been in over 2 months, bad me, I go around 1-2 pm and the place is empty. I do the bike and some machines only. My bad knees and back can't do treadmills or elliptical. My son said at the gym to wear heavy clothes with a hoodie on so you sweat. I don't do that but have seen many people doing it. Enjoy yourself. One question to everyone-why do gym have walls and walls of mirrors????
