  1. Just a heads up - it takes a lot longer to firm up than with regular milk and doesn't get quite as solid. if that bugs you, try using skim milk - or dare i say 2%
  2. It took a while, but it did firm up. not as solid as with regular milk, but I don't use regular milk.
  3. I made this yummy creation today. I took 1 packet of instant sugar-free chocolate pudding (I used Jello brand) and 1 packet of double stuffed cookie flavored Syntrax nectar Protein powder and 2 1/4 cups of unsweetened, 30 cal vanilla almond milk. I used MFP to get the nutritional info. per 1/4 cup serving:: 76 calories 1.5g total fat 9.6 carbs 6.3g protein It's SO GOOD. I want to experiment with other pudding/protein powder flavor combinations now! I have chocolate mousse powder and cheesecake pudding that I'll be trying next!!!

  5. I lost 13lbs in my first 9 days post op! I'm not expecting that every week because of the hospital fluids/water weight, but YAY!
  6. everyone is different. I'm 9 days out and I've had: scrambled eggs. string cheese Soup that's been blended sharp cheddar cheese yogurt cottage cheese
  7. well, my chicken soup didn't end up as what I planned, but I discovered a can of tomatoes in the pantry I forgot about. I stink at writing recipes, so this will be more like a narrative of how I cooked it. Also, i don't always measure stuff when it comes to soup, so this is vague in some parts. I added a scoop of nectar unflavored Protein powder to my 1/3 cup serving at the end (make sure it cools!) and it was pretty good - each scoop of that has 10g protein. I sauteed a cup each of diced celery, carrots and onions in about 2 tbsp olive oil. I added 2 cloves of garlic, minced, black pepper, a tsp of Kosher salt and a tsp of celery salt (the only thing I DO measure is salt cuz I have a hx of HTN). I simmered that down for about 5 minutes. The longer the better, get the veggies nice and soft. Then I added 1 tbsp tomato paste and a tbsp of "Better than Bouillon" chicken flavor bouillon. stir and cook for another min or two, you want the tomato to cook out some good flavor. It will darken all the veggies as it cooks. Then I added a large can of diced tomatoes. I used Cento brand, but anything would do, I'm sure. Low sodium tomatoes would be best, but I can't always find those and this is what I had. Cook that to a slow bubble. While it's heating, add in spices. whatever you like. I added 4 shakes of red pepper flake, some montreal chicken seasoning (like 2 shakes), a shake of garlic powder, and onion powder, I have some fresh basil so I diced about 6 leaves of that. I also added 2 bay leaves. I happen to have all that around, you can easily substitute what you like/have. I let the tomato mixture cook for about 45 minutes. I use my trusty coated cast Iron pot for Soups,so it can take the prolonged heat. This cooks out some of the Water in the tomatoes, and also softens the veggies. I then added 2 boxes of low sodium chicken broth and some diced parsley. Stirred, tasted to adjust seasoniing and simmer another 1/2 hr. At this point, you can eat as-is if you're on a mushy stage of your post op diet or farther out. I'm on soft stage, so I used my stick blender to make a blended soup. It's sort of a minestrone/tomato soup hybrid. Or if you're on clears, you could strain the veggies and the broth is really good too. I served 1/3 cup with 1 scoop of Syntrax nectar protein powder and garnished with parmesan cheese.
  8. Hi!!! Welcome to the forum!! My surgery day was May 2nd. I'm feeling really good!
  9. I only wore mine a couple of days. It wasn't quite long enough and the bottom rubbed on my lower belly giving me a friction blister. It helped those couple of days I used it, but after that I didn't need it. I'm 9 days out now and feeling great.
  10. I say DO IT. I did it. Had all those thoughts! I'm 32 and HAVE NEVER BEEN ON A PLANE. Ever. I might be the only person that I know who hasn't ever been on a plane. I don't want to live my life being "That lady who's too fat". "That lady who's too fat for her plane seat." "That lady who's too fat for the roller coaster." "That lady who had to ask for a different table because she couldn't fit in the restaurant booth." etc, etc... I'm only 9 days post op, and I have A LONG way to go, but I could cry when I think about how, for the first time in my life, this is going to happen. I'm gonna lose weight! I'm gonna be able to shop for clothes again! I'm gonna be able to cross my legs! I'm gonna be able to do so many things that I would never even THINK of doing because I won't be "That lady who's too fat" anymore. I say DO IT. DO IT NOW. DO IT WHILE YOU ARE YOUNG. WHILE YOUR KIDS ARE YOUNG. Do ittttttt.
  11. hey, 50/50 isn't bad! could be worse!
  12. It's not about a percentage to take out. As Laura said, they have a goal to remove the fundus. Our anatomy is not exactly the same from person to person, so someone could have a particularly stretched out stomach pre-sleeve and require 85% taken out, where someone else will have a smaller stomach and it equates to only 60% being taken out. The percentage isn't what important. They use a bougie so they get a uniform sleeve size post-op -- however much of your stomach has to be taken out to get to that sleeve size is irrelevant.
  13. Girl! You crack me upppp. <3 u. I hope you pick a side soon, too! And I hope that choice makes you happy! :)
  14. I'm 9 days post op this morning. Yesterday I was cleared for full liquids and soft foods at the same time. I ate: yogurt with fruit on the bottom a scrambled egg with cheese premier Protein shake in chocolate a small piece of sharp cheddar cheese. This was over the course of about 9-10 hours. Right before bed, I started thinking I was such a pig. That I did too much, too fast. I didn't feel sick. It all went down fine. I feel fine this morning. So I took a step back at the big picture. What I ate was not bad. I did pretty good as far as choices, but I didn't meet my protein goal. So technically, I didn't do great, either. It just strikes me how I'm feeling guilty about what I ate. I never really felt hungry. It was just like every few hours, it would pop into my head to eat something. So I ate a little bit of something and felt fine. This morning I had a Jello cup when I woke up. I was doing that for the week I was on clears only, so now it felt like habit, lol. Now I've been up a couple hours, so I just made a scrambled egg, with parmesan cheese, a little basil, salt and pepper. I make it in a coffee mug in the microwave. Heat for 30 seconds, stir. Heat another 5-15 seconds and it's done. prepare, cook and eat out of the same dish! I'm going to start sipping a Protein Shake in a bit. If I can get 2 of these down a day, I'll be really close to meeting my requirement, so all my other meals should get me to goal. I'm making some chicken Soup for late lunch. No actual chicken - but onion/carrot/celery sauteed in olive oil with garlic and rosemary - then add a tsp of better than bouillon, some tomato paste, mix it together well and sautee some more, then add chicken broth and simmer until veggies are super tender with 1-2 bay leaves. I hope it's good without the chicken! I might try blending it together with some unflavored Protein powder and see how that tastes. and dinner will probably be 2nds on the soup, maybe some cottage cheese or yogurt later as well. and another protein shake. This seems like SO MUCH to me!! But I want to get my protein and fluids in... It is nice to know that my love of cooking can survive post-op. Because I took pleasure in making my eggs delicious and I'm looking forward to making the soup later. I was worried that food would turn me off for a while post-op!
  15. There are shaker cups designed to break up the little bits. You can look up shaker cup on amazon or target or walmart and see what they look like. They carry them in stores, usually somewhere near the shakes themselves. I use premier Protein shakes from costco. They are ready to drink so I don't have to worry about mixing them. Also, Syntrax nectar has a ton of varieties in powder flavors. I mix those with Water or almond milk depending on my preference. Their chocolate Truffle is yummmmy. Get a sample pack on bjsbariatrics.com. They also sell shaker cups that have a compartment for powder that screws on the bottom AND has a ice pack that goes in it to keep it nice and cold! If you like Syntrax, they have good deals for the tubs on amazon.com. Congrats on your surgery - I hope all goes well. I'm 9 days out today and feeling AWESOME.
  16. Some people do become a bit fanatical after their surgery. They take the "living a healthy life" path and run with it (literally) and never get off. I see people in a group called VSG Gym Rats!!!!! and I just think "Good for you, but I don't see that being me." That said, I do exercise. I am embracing better food choices. But I didn't have this surgery to be on a diet for the rest of my life. I can get my requirements in with foods that I enjoy, and part of my emotional health may require that I have some chocolate or enjoy some pizza (when I get there!) when I want to. I feel bad for the people who think there's no other way to be, who think it's okay to badger someone on the same path they are on simply because they don't want to do it. Reminds me of (some) reformed alcoholics or (some) Christians. DO YOU!
  17. Why did you throw it out? I'm confused. I went to the grocery store yesterday for the first time since surgery, 8 days out. I was cleared for full liquids and mushy foods. He said do that for a week or so, and when I feel ready to start puree. Did you do okay with soft foods like yogurt? Yesterday I tried yogurt for the first time, and a scrambled egg with some cheese later. It was wonderful. I'm going to try ricotta bake with tomato sauce and parm tonight. If you explain why you couldn't eat it/threw it out, we might be able to help you better. I'm sorry you're struggling!
  18. so many surgeries so close together - I can't decide if you're crazy or if you're a genius to just get it all over with! lol - jk - you look fantastic! I assume you had to pay out of pocket for at least some of these, do you mind sharing how much all the procedures were? Can't wait to see you healed up!
  19. Good idea. I have gas-x strips but haven't really needed them yet. I'm gonna go get one now!
  20. I had surgery May 2nd. Eight days post op and feeling fine! Cleaned my house yesterday, went to the follow up appt and then shopping after - been released to full liquids and mushy foods. Down 14lbs in 8 days (it's mostly water weight from surgery - down 6lbs from day before surgery weight! Yay!
  21. I'm only 9 days post op and having the same issues - but not with everything. Remember, our lil tummies are still healing and we're asking it to digest more and more complex stuff with every stage. I've read other posts on this forum that say this is totally normal and it DOES go away. For some people a few weeks, sometimes a few months, but it should eventually subside when we've completely healed.
  22. if you're still in the hospital, ask for a scope patch. I had them put one on BEFORE surgery, and I never had nausea when I woke up. The pain tho - I was in pain for about 4-5 days. It gradually got better, but those first few days it was very difficult to get around. I'm 8 days post op and feeling A LOT better. I cleaned my whole house yesterday (slowly, and with help). Today I went walking around costco and Target with no issues.
  23. OH NO!!!! Ha, I woulda been doing the exact same thing trying to get out all the salt! :( That stinks, hopefully tomorrow will be a better day! ((HUG))
  24. I went to see my surgeon this morning for follow up. He was pleased with my progress. Down 14lbs since surgery. It's mostly Water weight - BUT this puts me 6 lbs down from the day BEFORE surgery, so either way, I'm happy. ) He released me to full liquids AND mushy foods as tolerated. He told me to go slow and make sure I get my Protein in every day. He asked me to follow up with my NUT in about a week to see if my diet needs any adjusting. She already told me pre-op that she could do it by email to save me some money,so yay! that. Today I had my first Protein shake, which I've learned is making me very, very gassy! My tummy doesn't hurt, but it's making all of these digestive noises! I'm home alone so I don't really care, but I hope this calms down before I'm drinking these things at work! Awkward! I also had some a scrambled egg, later a little (2 bites) of yogurt, and then a tiny piece of sharp cheddar cheese that my friend cut up to have with crackers. I just had the little bit of cheese, no cracker. It all went down just fine. I didn't feel any restriction, and I never got too full. I felt like I was taking nearly regular size bites. No weird digestion sounds like this shake is giving me! I wonder why the shake is doing that, but the food isn't? I would think my tummy would do better with the liquid... So other than the weight loss, my BP was good, so I'm staying off my meds. I have to follow up with him in a month, then 3 months, then 6 months, then 12 months, then every year after that. It seems a bit excessive. But I like him, so I'll do it. All in all, I feel much better. I still get some sharp pains in my belly button more than I'd like, but he said that's normal and should start to get better soon. I was able to go to a couple of stores after the appointment, do some shopping, then my dad suggested I try driving and he'd go with me in case I had any issues. I drove fine. I'm so happy to be mobile again! The doc asked me when he shook my hand as I was leaving, "So are you glad you did it?" I sure am. I thought it would be a LOT harder than this! :)
  25. I would think the apple is too soon. It's too hard and fiber-y. I'd stick to soft cheese, yogurt, pudding, cottage cheese and such.
