jennrus got a reaction from DanaInNewOrleans in All The Single Ladies...
Not exactly on topic but yesterday was at Dr for checkup and a good looking guy in waiting room about your age. Not many men in program that I've seen and he was relatively thin so my first thought was, "He must be in the wrong office." The nurse came out and called him. I thought, holy cow, if I were single, I'd be all over that! Wanted to know his story. So proud of him. Guess the moral of the story is- go get 'em tiger! Girls will notice you and it's likely you will be a good catch. I would let honesty prevail. And be sure to check out women in the waiting room because they ARE checking you out!

Believe me, I'm not proud of these feelings. I know it's wrong. Being honest about how I feel. Surprising how many different feelings and emotions this journey brings up. It was my understanding this was a safe place to share those. You who have judged me for my original post are no better.

Yes. I am not proud to admit it but I do feel ill sometimes watching others eat. The sheer volume of food people consume astounds me. In restaurants the portion sizes others get seem ridiculous and to see someone consume it is almost unbeleiveable. Of course I know somewhere in the recesses of my brain that I used to eat like that (and then some) but it doesn't stop me feeling that disgust. I often have to look away. I try not to say anything and try to keep a poker face as I don't want to offend others but have to admit with my husband I am less circumspect! I have said "OMG you are NOT going to EAT that are you?" and other similar expressions of horror and disgust at his food choices.
I have read a bit about cellular memory since the surgery and I am more and more convinced that the memory of food was mostly cellular for me and was mostly removed with the 85% of my stomach. I really can't recall being hungry, can't recall wanting to eat, and while on some level I know I used to feel excited at the prospect of a big meal I just can't recall what that felt like.
Maybe I am a freak. I don't see other sleevers talking this way!

I am now 6.5 weeks out and find I am SO judgemental of what everyone else eats now. I get sick if I see glutinous people and feel ashamed for having looked like that. Funny thin is, I ate alone most of the time so no one would judge me that way and here I am.

jennrus reacted to jh5497 in Depression?
Depression is a mental illness. Mental illnesses can not be caused by surgery. HOWEVER, if she was using food to cope with her emotions, she will have lost her coping mechanism with the surgery and could be struggling because of that. VSG is a huge life change and with all changes comes a certain amount grief. Often a relationship with food is a big priority and this surgery forever changes a person's relationship with food. If feeling down persists, I would contact my prescribing doctor/psychiatrist, explain that since post op I don't feel my medication is as effective as pre-op, OR talk to a counselor. Amazon has some great books on this as well.

My favorite so far has been White chicken Chili bc it was packed full of flavor and Protein and only took about 40 minutes total to prepare: 4 cans great northern Beans, 1 lb. chicken, 2 cloves garlic, 1 cup diced onion, 2 t. Oregano, 2 cans lowfat cream of chicken, 3 cups lowfat chicken broth, 1 can diced green chiles,6 oz low fat/fat free sour cream, and 2 cups low fat monterey jack shredded cheese. Cover your skillet with olive oil, add the diced onion, crushed garlic cloves, chicken (I added whole pieces and cut up later, but you can cut up beforehand if you want), and canned chilies. I set the stove top on about 4-5 and covered with a lid and let all of this cook together. I went ahead and got my larger pot ready and added the Beans, cream of chicken, broth, and oregano and let this start heating up on low to medium heat. After about 10-15 minutes (when my chicken was cooked through) I added the skillet ingredients (I cut my chicken up at this time) into the pot so that everything could cook together. I cooked on medium heat for about 30 minutes. At the very end, we added the 6oz of sour cream and the cheese and let simmer for another 5-10 minutes and then it was ready to go. I added about a tsp of sour cream on top of Soup right before I ate it and I loved it. I will probably have this again for lunch tomorrow.
You could also add unflavored Protein powder to this mix and I doubt you'd notice it was there. Good luck!
