  1. You're right Nana. When you make decisions, you have to accept the bad with the good.
  2. Thanks for the replies. I've yet to find any other WLS patients out there who has dealt with this. I'm not feeling much better but I'm not any worse. So I suppose that's good. How long did it take for your husband to heal??
  3. Anyone experiance a splenic infartc as a complication? I'm going through it now & it's pure hell. How long did it take for the pain to go & you felt normal again?? How did your doctor treat you? To say I'm miserable is an understatement.
  4. one day at a time. you're doing great, congrats!! this will be an incredible journey for you. best wishes!
  5. That's awesome! Congrats! I hope to be there in 5 months. What's your typical day like when it comes to meals? I'm 11 days out.
  6. I'm 10 days out & am finally starting to feel human again. I'm not coming anywhere near to meeting my water & protein requirements. If I get 15 grams of protein in a day, it's a miracle. I'm not hungry & have to force myself to "eat". I've been nursing this 1/2 cup of skim milk for an hour now. It's a chore, to say the least. I wish I could take in "food" a bit quicker. It is what it is. Hopefully in another few weeks, i'll be able to do so.
  7. Crossing my figers & toes that you won't have to go back in. Good luck!
  8. My big day is 2/28. I'm in a bit of a panic because I have 3 young girls. The youngest being 11 months. I'll have help the first week but then after that I'm all on my own during the days with the girls. I'll need to carry & lift my 11 month old. She weighs 19-20lbs. I think I'll only have to lift her to put her into bed & take her out of bed for naps. That's assuming she'll cooperate for me. Anyone else out ther have to deal with a similar situation? How did you cope? Any tips or ideas?? Thanks so much!
  9. you'll do great. just follow your doctor's guidelines. get support & take it one day at a time.
  10. Baby food is on my list from my surgeon. Whole Foods brand is really delish!
  11. I just started my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. It consists of 4-5 Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement shakes a day plus all the broth, Water, sugar free jello/pudding/popcicles I can stand. I'll take in approx. 400-700 calories a day. My questions is, can I exercise (on the treadmill or aerobic dvd)? Am I not taking in enough calories to do so?
  12. Try adding powdered milk to your shakes. 1oz=10grams of protein. You can add it to just about anything.
  13. BCBS in other states cover VSG. Check out this woman's blog. She includes letters in her fight to win approval from her insurance company. It might be helpful. Good luck! http://thediaryofafatwoman.blogspot.com/search?updated-min=2008-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-05%3A00&updated-max=2009-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-05%3A00&max-results=9
  14. Imagine how fantastic you're going to feel this summer!! Congrats!
  15. I've been denied twice for VSG by BCBS. Both times they are saying I didn't have the minimun BMI 40. At my initial consult with my surgeon my BMI was 40.5. BCBS required I follow a 3 month medically supervised diet. In which time, I lost some weigh. Now they're saying I don't qualify!! I'm going to call BCBS & discuss this with them. I've never spoke with rthem before. Anyone have tips, suggests, experiance?? Thanks fo much!

  19. BCBS of IL takes 2 weeks. I was denied the 1st time. Sent in an appeal & hope to have my answer by Friday. The waiting is KILLING me. Good luck!
  20. FANTASTIC!! You have a beautiful family. It must feel pretty damn good to be so healthy for yourself & for them.
  21. tomato soup has a lot of acid which may irritate your stomach. you should double check w/ your surgeon's office.
  22. Say you've had hernia or ulcer surgery. You'll have to start on your "white lie" now though. Saying you've got a problem of some sort. Going to see a doctor & you're having surgery...blah blah blah...you know the drill. Say you don't want or need any visitors at the hospital. You just want to rest & sleep. You'll see them at home.
  23. If the surgeon insists you are to be cathed, ask if they'll give you an antibiotic ASAP to try to prevent the UTI
