LT1002 got a reaction from ready2bloom in Almost 2 Weeks Out Eating Normal Food
At my two week post-op, my NUT said I could start eating more normal food as long as I chewed it very well before swallowing, Protein before carbs. My doc said after three weeks, you're pretty much out of the woods for a leak.
Every doctor and nut gives different instructions and info to their patients. Check with your doctor and nut about what to do - they're the only ones whose opinions matter.

Another newbie here! Sleeved on 7/17. Married to my wonderful wife since 2010 and she's now expecting our first baby (due in November). Very difficult to follow a liquid diet when your beloved is scarfing down Bagels in front of you. She's a hormonal nutcase and I'm cranky from hunger - we're quite the pair. So glad to find other LGBT folks here!

You'd be amazed at how little food 500-600 calories is. I'd suggest using MYFitnessPal now to track how many calories you're taking in pre-VSG so you have a good idea how much it takes to make you full. I would never have been able to limit myself to that pre-sleeve - I take in about that much now, post-VSG, and the quantities are very small.
As for foods - I'm 9 weeks out and can pretty much eat anything except salad and raw veggies. I eat steak - good source of Protein - and stick with leaner cuts and avoid sauces and toppings. I can only eat about 1/3 of a 6 oz. steak, though, whereas in the past I would have eaten the whole thing plus the sides. My dog is very happy that I've had this surgery, since she gets my leftovers.
The first few weeks are miserable, but it really does get better.

It's weird how people who maybe had fingers pointing towards them in the past, now do the pointing. It might be nice to TRY to be fair and understand what these people that overeat are going through. We've all "been there, done that" and at times we've had out of control eating and/or relentless unsatiable hunger. It's one thing to see them overeating and reflect back on yourself, not see yourself in a positive light in the past and glad you had a tool to help you not be like that any longer. But we've been there, we know how overaters feel and of all people..... we should understand and see things a little how they see them.
I'll see someone like that and want to tell them (without offending them or them thinking I'm calling them fat) that there are possible tools for them out there as well and tell them how happy I am with mine. But I've rarely done that due to not knowing how they would take it. I would like to help them somehow instead of putting them down or judging them.

Two more points and then I'll stop beating this dead horse...
    1) OP asked when, not if. If you haven't had one, simply move on and don't answer. Don't reply by saying you'd never do it. That's not what the OP asked.
    2) For those of you who did reply that you'd never eat something that bad for you now that you've been sleeved, think about your pre-sleeve self. Unless you lived under a rock and had no idea what healthy eating looked like, you knew what you should be eating to lose weight. Now imagine if a thin health nut went up to overweight you and said "if you want to lose weight you should eat healthy and exercise like I do!" How insulted would you be? I would guess pretty insulted, probably upset and somewhat angry.
Well, you're pretty much doing the same thing to the in moderation people. Some people do come here for advice and in that case, then go for it. But not everyone is looking for that, and in this thread, that's not how the OP phrased her question.

For what it's worth, I don't have sideburns - my hair was just messy that day from riding around in a convertible.
My dog, however, does have hair on her face. Despite that, she is a girl.

Thanks everyone! And my dog is adorable, though she could probably use a VSG!
Just wait until I start putting up the pics of my cat in his motorcycle jacket.

    First, I'm not a guy.
Second, yes and that's exactly why I can relate to the OP. That day I had about 2 oz of flat, watered down, caffeine free Diet Coke and people jumped on me like I had a gallon of ice cream. In this thread the OP asked a simple question and wanted a simple answer. Doubt she was looking for the hyper judgmental and alarmist responses she ended up with. Unfortunately, those responses have a chilling effect on others posting - I've seen a few responses in various threads of people seeing how people react when someone posts something others would perceive as "bad" and saying they'd never say anything for fear of generating those types of responses.
Is that really what this place is about? Getting down on others for their choices? Because frankly, I thought it was for support and encouragement.
Funny, it's always that same group of maybe 5 or 6 people who can't help but criticize other people for their food choices. The majority of people are incredibly kind and supportive, but those same 5 or 6 people ruin it for the rest of us with their holier than thou attitudes.

It's a bit disingenuous to suggest the moderation people will fail. Both will learn new ways of eating - the moderation people will learn how to eat the things they like without going overboard and falling into old habits, the strict adherents to a healthy diet will change their entire lifestyle. To each their own - some people are marathon runners, some people are sprinters, and some people like a nice, leisurely jog, but they're all runners.
My issue was quantity and choice. Right now, for example, I'm at a late lunch/early dinner at my favorite BBQ place. Pre-VSG, I'd have the pulled pork & brisket combo platter with fried rice, Mac & cheese and a piece of cornbread. I'd pretty much clean my plate. Today I ordered chicken (nice and moist), took off the skin, put the cornbread aside, and had a small bite of Mac & cheese. No rice. To some people, that bite of m&c would be heresy! But to me, I know where I'm coming from and see the change in my eating habits. I know I'm never going to be that strict, healthy eater, so I know for me, the best thing to do is learn to eat like a better me. I also know that after doing a strict healthy diet, I would fall off the wagon big time and probably make myself sick.
Again, to each their own. What's good for one person isn't necessarily the best thing for everyone and to suggest that one way is right or better than another isn't really helpful to anyone.
