Congrats on your weight loss. As to hair loss i wish there was something out there that really works. I have been taking Biotin and two Protein Shakes a day since my 2 month post op and still have hair loss. I have read many post and we are all different but i too pray it stops soon. How are all my fellow May sleevers? I had my operation May 17. With 67 pounds down with a goal of 100 total to lose. So I am almost 3/4 there. I have been experiencing the Hair loss for the past month. I am starting to add back a Protein Shake in a day, any other suggestions for the hair?

I just posted about how mine is growing back. I takr 5000mcg Biotin, zinc, use Nioxon sgampoo and conditioner. It really has made a difference for me and a few of my friends with sleeves
Hi, i was just wondering if you take zinc aside from the Vitamins. I take 1 Centrum and it contains 15mg of zinc plus1-womens one a day and it has 7.8mg.

I'm a hairdresser @ an Aveda salon, & was sleeved Aug1. As I hairdresser I've seen the hair loss in sleeve, band, & bypass clients,w/bypass clients being the most extreme. I'm waiting to see what mine's gonna do.
Taking Vitamins regularly (have your Dr. check your bloodwork), keeping your Proteins way up, & keeping hydrated from the VERY BEGINNING is way important. The less shock your body goes into, the better your hair will be! Even if u don't have Hair loss, the texture might get drier. Try Aveda Damage(or Dry)Remedy Treatment Masks.
If you're experiencing hair loss, try the new Aveda Invati System-shampoo, cond., & spray for the scalp. It works best when u use all 3. It will definately help u stop loosing as much & help u regrow what u lost. If u go on Aveda.com, u can watch testimonials, but I've seen it 1st hand.
I can also tell u, when people start to loose hair, they get nervous about touching it. The worst thing u can do is not touch it. Your scalp needs to be stimulated! (Remember the old '100 strokes before bed' tale). So, Shampoo it vigorously, brush it well, massage it regularly, & stimulate those follicles!
Unfortunately, everything u put your body through can affect your hair. Some bodies react worse to the shock than others. Anesthesia alone can cause your hair the fall out or get dry, if you're sensitive. The trick is to stay on top of the damage. Hair color can make it feel thicker, & lighter colors don't show the scalp as much. Aveda color is 97% natural, so it's very safe for this purpose. Long hair can feel like more hair loss than short hair, so a shorter cut might make u feel better about it & make it look fuller. I wouldn't recommend perms @ all in this stage of the game.
Feel free to message me if u have any hair questions, I don't always check back w/the posts. Good luck, & hope this helps someone.
i have read so much on this topic to see if i can find something to help me out: conclusion being that no matter what we do what you take hair loss wont stop immediately and have to let it take its course. Scary not to know when thow many say 4-6mo and others say when your weight stabilizes. Can you tell me more about this product. I have looked it up and well the scalp revitalizer is on the spendy side for me. How long would one have to use to see results and have you noticed on any of your clients. Thanks

Sorry - my crazy phone sent my last post before I was finished typing!!The stalls can be discouraging. It DOES take time for your body to adjust. You have to think to yourself' date=' how many other times in your life have you lost any significant amount of weight in such a short amount of time? What extreme measures (if any) did you take to accomplish that?
This is NOT a diet. This is NOT an exercise regime. This IS a lifestyle change. Just like getting married, or having children, there are going to be ups and downs. There will be highs and lows. The key is to not give up. All you have to do is put one foot in front of the other. Lean on those who have carved the path before you. Learn from their failures and their successes!
I have been battling my stalls since almost 3-4 weeks out, just like many of you. Once I broke through the 1st stall, I have been on a series of other stalls, where I gain and lose the same 3 lbs over and over again. I've started boxing classes 2x a week, and let me tell you - these are no Mickey Mouse work outs!! On the other 3 days of the week, I commit to 15 minutes on my treadmill.. with a goal to get up to 30 minutes. I allow myself to not think or worry about exercise during the weekend, so that I can maximize my time with my husband and son. Eventually, I hope that the 3 of us will be doing activities that incorporate physical activity, which will just round out my week. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
There is a baseline that all Sleevers can adhere to, but at some point you have to take personal control of your future and determine what you're going to do to move the weight. The surgery in and of itself is just a jumping off point. If you put garbage in, you're going to get garbage out. Do I follow a strict diet? No, not always. I allow myself something I shouldn't have every now and again, but I also remind myself that those things (whatever they are for me, you, whomever) is what backed me into a corner and caused me to seek out this solution in the first place. Protein is so important!! Find it - it's out there on a surprisingly vast list of foods. You WILL find a Protein source that you like. Personally, I struggle with Water. I loved Water pre-op, and I still like it now. I dislike that I can't just guzzle it down anymore. Having to sip, sip, sip, makes it very challenging to meet my hydration goals. (Shrug) It's just one more thing on my list of things to overcome.
No one is expecting you to be perfect. But you do have to take action. The surgery is not the end of the road. It's just the beginning. For those of you that are early into your sleeve journey, it will consume your thoughts and make you question everything. I am not that far into my journey, but I can honestly say that I don't think about it all the time. After you make those small adjustments and figure out your comfort zone you'll relax into your new life, and when that happens, I hope you take a moment to smile, and reflect about how amazing you are, and you are proud of your accomplishments!! I know I am!![/quote']
Very well said (:

Regarding hair loss' date=' it's still technically summer. If you are blow drying your hair, curling it, swimming and in the sun, you are bound to lose more hair. Woman also use a lot more hair gear like clips, ponytail holders, bands, etc. these can cause breakage. The summer and sun can be rough on your hair. As we move into fall, it's also a time of natural shedding, even animals get a change of their coat. The surgery will contribute to some Hair loss, but remember all the other factors at work.
I have fine hair to begin with, I have bleach blonde hair with the aid of color and to top it off I have Lupus. Lupus causes hair loss, medication associated with lupus can contribute to it.
I was swimming daily and in the sun and before you know it, I started losing even more about a month ago. I started the Biotin before surgery. I do take steps to help though. Before getting into the pool I wet my hair first with the hose and I add a little bit of conditioner, I use L'O'real Naturals from Sally's. I rinse periodically while swimming and add a little more if I am in a long time. One time I didn't do this and I paid for it.
I get my hair trimmed every 4-6 weeks now. I use a cap (or saran wrap) and once a week use Redken Extreme CAT Protein reconstructing treatment an use a blow dryer to warm up the cap. After about 1/2 hour with that, I add the L'Oreal Natural (you can use whatever you like best or Cholesterol) which is cheaper, put a bag, cap or I use saran wrap around the head, and blow dry the saran wrap (or sit under a dryer). This has made a remarkable difference.
I am using the new Garnier Frutis Fall Fight Shampoo, I use L'Oreal Naturals conditioner and then every day I add a dime amount of Redken CAT and I let my hair dry naturally and if I have to curl it, I wait until it's dry.
At 3 months my hair is doing very well compared to what it was a few weeks ago.
Remember there are always other things at work besides the surgery that adds to the hair loss or breakage and you will most likely need to take special precautions in the summer. Stop using clips, pony tail holders, be careful of the sun, chlorine and lower your blow dry usage. Once a week try a deep protein & then conditioner treatment and continue with the biotin treatment.[/quote']
Just wondering where u get the Redken Cat protein?
