Great job- keep it up!

There are fanatics on both side- good and bad. I choose to be realistic. I have developed what works for me and I can and will stick with it. Each person has to find their own way and hopefully I can support them in some way.

Amazing how we look at food changes. I use to look at a cup of chili and go that's not enough, now after two bites it seems that that 1 cup has grown to to and I think this is to much!

I have been over weight since childhood, so boy have I had it. I was harrished and bulled so much in middle school I because severely depressed. It continued some in high school, but I handled it better. College was a little better. However, when I went back to work in the school system I will see kids and they will make snide comments. On my wedding day of all days, I heard an older member of our community (who is obese herself) say I can't believe she is getting married before my granddaughter; look at her she is huge. Oh, well it makes since she is marrying a blind man. OMG, I got so mad- one that was a put down to me and it was to my husband. My husband is visually impaired, but far from dumb and stupid. He makes a six figure salary and is great to me. He granddaughter isn't married because no one can stand her attitude. People are so rude sometimes.

I Needed The Band Because Dieting Didnt Work For Me
Kime-lou replied to prettysmart1913's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I feel like everyone is different. My nutritionist does call it a diet, but she said ok you tried WW and Atkins and they didn't work, but now the KIM Diet is because it is a diet that I can stick to; something I can do for life. I hate to say I don't measure, like many other do- some foods I do (soups and such). I count calories. If a recipe is suppose to make 5 portions then I evenly separate 5 and I eat one. So I guess it's a type of measurement. I buy boneless skinless chicken that is pre weighed so I know the weights. No one thing is going to work for each of us. We each have to pull from others pieces and make our own plan that we can sustain. IE- So many people on this site preach about Protein Shakes, I can't do them. They give me horrible indigestion and make me feel lousy so I don't, plus they give me zero satisfaction - I am starving after drinking one and they are high calorie. Maybe that will change, but if it does I will figure out my plan when I get to that point. The band is just my extra incentive to not cave to my human nature- last night I really wanted to eat everything I saw (PMS), but the thought of losing weight and the thought of my band stopped that want. The band is my- you don't have a choice you have to do what is best for you body reminder. -
3 Years On October 22Nd 2012 - Annual Checkup
Kime-lou commented on aghealthy's blog entry in Blog 78170
Thanks for this post. We are told over and over that this is a slow process. It's nice to see that you can continue to lose after the 1st year. A "friend" told me that I wouldn't lose any more after the 1st year. I want to keep going until I reach goal. -
62# Down And Enjoying The New Me:)
Kime-lou replied to armymom2012's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can't wait to be able to ride my closet of all the fat clothes. I have a ton of clothes that I have collected over the years and just kept, I am now glad I saved some of the smaller sizes because now they are coming in handy. But once I am otta those fat clothes I will never go back!! -
I have suffered from it off and on since I was a teen. I was on meds during my teen years that help, but was weened off as an adult. Went back on at 22 when both my Grandfather's died in one month (I was very close to them). I went off again when I started trying to get pregnant at 27 and was off until Feb of this year. I went on Paxil in Feb. more due to anxiety than depression, but my doctor felt that the anxiety may be linked- I had 3 misscarriages and I was just anxious all the time and freaked out about everything. The Paxel has helped me tremendously. My BP was high from all the stress and my weight went up to 250 due to stress horomones. Now the anxiety is pretty much gone and I feel good, I am not stressed and I let things roll off my back more now than I did in the past. A lot of people hate Paxil, but for me it was a God send. I am not sure how long I will stay one it, likely until I decided to try to get pregnant again, at which time my doctor said he would put me on a different SSRI that is safe when pregnant. Good Luck, Depression is a difficult beast to deal with.

What Does A Tight Band In The Morning Feel Like
Kime-lou replied to wildrose1966's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said that at night when we lay down fluid pools in our mid sections which puts more presure on the stomach and band so we will tend to fill tighter in the am. I eat cereal every morning, which most say is a slider, but I love my special K, protein shakes give me horrible indigestion so I do cereal. Some don't do anything but water for the first couple of hours. Each of us has to decided what works for us. The pressure and all you are discribing does sound like gas pains. -
What Difference Does Band Size Make?
Kime-lou replied to whitedobe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't think it matters what size band you have. My doctor only does 10cc bands, so do others. I do not think it effects your result. -
Sounds like a bug to me. Those nasty things are starting to go around.

Restriction? How Do You Jnow Youre There?
Kime-lou replied to Chiflado's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my 4th fill afterward I was told to do liquid for 24 and then mushy for 24. I have had to be careful, had one stuck episode (1st real one). Are you working out? If so you maybe building muscle, which weighs more than fat, so you could actually be getting smaller (inch), with out the weight going down. Guys building muscle some much quicker than women so this could be a major reason why you have not dropped as much as some. Just make sure you are following the guidelines and as long as the scales are going in the right direction and you are feeling good, don't stress to much. (I know easier said that done- I am telling myself as much a you) Hope things get better. -
I would think that Soup would be a slider, so I am worried about eating. When it's cold and rainy I love as cup of soup with a grilled cheese. My hubs suggested we have soup and sandwhich tonight. My mom make a yummy homemade chicken and veggie soup that I love. I figured I would take a pita and cut it in half and put some cheese in it and melt it. Is that a bad meal? I don't want to eat sliders and end up starving in an hour. How do you feel about Soups?

I had my soup and grilled cheese last night and it was awesome. My mom's homemade soup is thick with shredded chicken and veggies so it wasn't to much liquid. I made my grilled cheese light- I use half and pita pocket (whole wheat) and put half a wedge of laughing cow cream cheese and a sprinkle of monteray jack cheese. Sprayed the outside with I can't believe it's not butter and toasted it in a pan. It was so yummy and gooey, yet low cal. We ate about 6 and I went to bed about 10 even worked out between and didn't get the least bit hungry.

Really sounds like you need a fill. I have a fill every 4 weeks, the few days before I go back I know I need one. This last fill -4th- I have restriction, I really have to be careful now. I know it's bandster hell, but you must try and keep your portion sizes to a cup. I count my calories to make sure I don't go over 1200, that may help you. No easy I know, but you have to in order to stay the course. Try upping your Protein a bit and your Fiber - they are two things that normally help you stay full longer. I am right a long with you in weight loss- I had surgery June 22 at 244 and now I am 207. Getting close to Onderland!!!

Goodness, My prayers are with you. I am blessed to have a man like that and I don't know what I would do without him. I wish I could say something to take away the pain, but I can't. I hope you will have continued success in your WL journey and you will always remember the love you shared.

Pissed Off! Need Somebody To Talk Me Down...
Kime-lou replied to Bracchus's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Missy is right. My weight goes down Saturday through Tuesday and then on Wed, Thurs, Fri, it goes up even though everything stays the same. Go figure our bodies sometimes have a mind of their own. If the 3 extra pounds hang around for more than a week and brings friends then you need to look closer at things, but there is no need to freak out at this point. Don't let this get you down! -
Hopeful- you can find a BMR calculator online- this calculation tells you how many calories you would burn if you stayed in the bed all day long; ie the number of calories you need to sastain life. I always make sure my daily calorie count is below that, mine is currently around 1600. I keep my calorie intake around 1200, so daily I should at the least have a calorie deficit of 400 calories (it would really be more since I don't stay in bed all day). A pound is 3500 calories, so it can help me calcualte about what my weight loss should be. If you track your working out that helps more. By running all these numbers you can better see how your body is working and how your metabolism is. I am a numbers person (boy would my high school math teacher be shocked) so seeing the actual numbers makes more since to my brain than other things.

I have learned that the weight loss journey is very personal. Yes, we can glean support and some answers from people on this sight, but what works for them may not be for you. Each of us has our own issues with food that lead to us becoming obese and each must deal with those issues inside of us. That is so hard, especially if those issues have been there for many years. We can go through all the psych evals in the world, but nothing will prepare us for the journey - the ups and downs. It's human nature to compare ourselves to others, so then the question and frustration start - well so and so lost dat-ta-dat in 3 months why haven't I. Weight loss is dependant on so many things and I have studied and googled every thing I can to learn. Basically what I have learn is what I have always known in order to lose weight I must have a calorie deficit. That being said I never really knew how many calories I needed a day. Through research I found that you need to know your BMR- they amount of calories you would burn if you just stayed in the bed all day long. I always make sure my calories are below my BMR. But because the BMR is based on your height, age, weight each persons will be different. So I have started to look more at me, not everyone else. I have stopped compairing myself with others. I look to me, what me I do, what must KIM do to succeed. I am the only one who can be successful for me, I must take responsiblity for my actions or lack there of. If I fail, I fail- not my doctor, not this site, not my nutritionist, but me because I failed to take responsibility for me. So today I take resposibility for myself and I will be accountable for what I do or don't do. I will celebrate my success and I will look at my failures as a learning tool. Support is awesome, but we must look at ourselves and into ourselves to make the changes we must to be succesful on this journey! I wish you success on your Journey and I hope that I can help you on your road.

In NC our local new station did a consumer reports thing on it and basically it's junk. You would be better off buying standard hand weights and use those during work outs or when walking. The only buy off TV work out equipment that I have that has worked well is a total gym. I do a 30 min session every other day on it. My strenght has increase along with my balance and how I feel. Plus, more muscle ups my metabolism.

Awesome, biking is such great exercise. My hubs and I love to go out and ride. Enjoy it!

You should contact your doctor if this has gone on for more than a day. I had that problem about a week post op, everything passed that way- then it cleared up and now I have the opposite issue.
