  1. I had this problem too post-op and in fact continue to if I do not stay on top of it. Do talk with your surgeon and do not let yourself get impacted.... It is too uncomfortable and can be dangerous! People mistakenly think since they r on liquids they shouldn't have bms but you will still make stool .. It is the waste from all your intake. Protein Shakes can be very constipating for some and the lack of Fiber slows down all digestion in the beginning. My doc suggested Senna tablets till I am eating more. It helps!!!

  2. Hypothyroidism is an endocrine disease that contributes to obesity because the thyroid regulates the rate of our metabolism...( how we burn calories...etc). The symptoms you listed are typical but don't think you didn't need the surgery. Taking thyroid medication will help you regulate your metabolism but in the morbidly obese this rarely contributes to much weight loss. In fact those on thyroid medication most often still have the weight gain and yearly creep as they age. Getting thinner however will help your Hypothyroidism and all other body systems ! Hope this helps!!

  3. Do you not have a nutritionist or a diet plan provided for you??? most of us are on Clear Liquids and Protein Shakes (60-100gm) for a couple weeks while we heal. Then it is slowly progressed to full liquids, puddings, cream Soups. You need the minimum Protein throughout until your diet is advanced and you can get it in " real food". You don't want to stretch or stress your sleeve too early. please check with your NUT and surgeon!

  4. Oh and yes this is drastic but my surgeon said you have to move beyond the shame and guilt and be determined to use this as the tool it is. MOST morbidly obese can only lose 10% of their weight with exercise ... The rest is food restriction. All those diets we tried have fine print after the befor and after pictures... "not typical results" But look at the TYPICAL RESULTS here!!! Only you can decide what is good for you... Seems to me there were no surgical options when the bible was written so getting directions from it would be difficult ...you just need to trust you are loved whatever you decide!

  5. Hi All,

Had surgery 8/1 and all went very well except spent extra night due to a slow heart rate caused by anesthesia. They used lidocaine in abdominal wall to minimize tenderness but think it affected Vegal nerve and my HR got pretty low. I do not remember anything from being wheeled out of pre/op till I woke in room. Pain minimal and well controlled. Everything everyone said is absolutely true!!

WALK/ USE GASX/ GO slow .... Tiny sips... I have had zero nausea...didn't need any fancy mouth stuff just brush teeth and rinse a lot. sleep when you can. For me most of the discomfort was and still is Gas .

Each day the swelling goes down and sipping gets better. The goal is 4 oz per hr but day one all I could do was 1 oz per hr but have doubled it every day since till I am almost doing that . Protein is very filling and harder thus slower. My new best friends are my ice packs. Very comforting... Hope everyone else is getting better, I know I would try and log on but fall asleep before I could join in. In fact gotta nap now!:-)

  6. Welcome to all newbies! I just finished work and begin my Clear Liquids tomorrow. surgery is WEDS!!! yes I am nervous! We are putting a lot of faith in these docs but have to do our part too. I was not told to lose weight prior to surgery just NOT GAIN not Gorge. When you eat uncontrollably it engorges the liver which has to be moved out of the way to get to your stomach. Surgeries are cancelled if the liver is too engorged and it is unsafe. So I put myself on South Beach for the last 3 weeks and bought a pile of Atkins bars to get me through my weak times. It worked well... Have lost 11.5 pounds! I hope all us August first gals are able to log back on soon I want to know my pals did well ... Hang in there Ladies ... We are almost to ground zero! I feel like this is my chance to truly begin anew and all my old diet failures wiped clean and forgiven! I'm amazed I am decaffinated and may actually want to stay that way!! To all those following check on us and hang in there...YOU CAN DO THIS!
