Leaks develop for many reasons' date=' ONE of which is improper recovery activities (diet or physical) but this is NOT the only way a patient can get a leak. To even read that makes my blood boil for those of us who have suffered life threatening complications due to leaks, the majority of which were NOT caused by anything we did. Leaks can happen because of physician error, bleeding complications making it difficult to ensure that proper suturing took place. They can happen because of natural variances in tissue recovery (swelling or infection developing at the suture line). There are a myriad of reasons leaks happen and for most they are different. Recovery is a nightmare which is often life threatening and requires weeks if not months in hospital. They can cause heart damage, lung damage or other organ failure.

Leaks TYPICALLY happen within the first six weeks but have been known to happen up to six months out. There are even cases that happened after a year, but for the most part the concerning period is the first six weeks. Following doctors instructions is very important, but you still can do it all right and end up with a leak (as I and many others here have done).

I hope you misunderstood your doctor because I would be very hesitant to have a doctor spouting that line of crap operate on me. My guess is that he wasn't clear when answering which mislead you to understand how leaks happen...I'll hope that's the case! If not and you are sure he actually said that...RUN don't walk, to a better surgeon![/quote']

Oh, no! Your problem is big too. You want wls so bad and you were disappointed.

I understand how disappointed you are. Don't give up.

I had to put my surgery on hold right after I was approved my insurance because found out I have breast cancer. Oncologist says it will be at least 7 months before wls.

I had ekg and blood test first day. Then I went back later to have echocardiagram and chemical stress test.

Congratulations!!! You are doing awesome.

words cannot express how sorry i am about your BC - this is an extremely hard time for you - and all feelings you must be going through are difficult to deal with

i can only imagine how disappointed you are that you must have WLS postponed - but its not cancelled.

you have to take care of your primary health issue of cancer first

The sleeve will be waiting for you after your BC recovery

I am so sorry that you were dealt the C Card - I am a cancer survivor and have had 8 rounds of chemo over the last 10 years or so,.... Do you know what regimen of treatment you'll be on? Also - if you have one in your area - look up Gilda's Club - this group was such a lifesaver for me going through all my treatments as they have lots of fun activities and group sessions that are not pity parties.

I've been here a few months now and feel like I know you so want to tell you what's happened. My paperwork was submitted to insurance last Wednesday after 6 months of supervised diet and all the required tests. I found out Monday I have breast cancer. I asked surgeon yesterday if I could have bariatric surgery in January. He said absolutely not, not till breast cancer resolved. I am scared, sad and disappointed.

I had echocardiogram and chemical stress test as unable to walk on treadmill.

Congratulations on your hipbones. Can't wait to find mine.

Chad, so sorry about your separation at this stressful time in your life. Perhaps if you tell her how much it would mean to you to have her there for surgery she will be there. Beat of luck on your surgery.
