  1. You shouldn't be having this problem and it could be a sign of a bigger issue. My dic said to call if you have nausea over 24 hours and get seen immediately. Call your doctor!

    Lucky Pre-Op Diet

Just for grins and giggles...here was my preop diet day yesterday (in full compliance...even below carb limit actually). 6oz coffee with 1/3 cup milk and some sf vanilla One cup 2% cottage cheese Cesar salad without croutons with spicy chicken breast 5oz glass Sauvignon blanc Mashed cauliflower potatoes with cheese (1/2 cup) BBQ chicken breast (a rub made at home, no sauce) Broccoli (1/4 cup) 5 oz glass Sauvignon blanc . I asked the doc why no liquid diet. He said that for patients without sever eating issues he prefers the under 40 carb preop. We will have plenty of time to have liquids after surgery . My Water is mostly bubbly water, which I will have to switch from after surgery. That's not a huge price to pay to lose 70lbs! My biggest issue was just missing carb Snacks like crackers and bread for the first day as well as candy. I'm now day 6 and haven't even considered wanting any of that since day three.

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Thank you for that detailed note about your experience daddy (ok that sounds funny lol). I'm due next week and reading accounts of what folks are going through is helpful. I'm glad you are doing well....but find some liquid tyelonel for that headache! (at least that's what my doc suggests).

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

You know...in general I like it for my iPad, though I wish it would allow me to chose my carb levels. So far it's easy to use though and I can work around that (I'm on 40 carbs preop). I can see that post it will be nice for protein etc.

    Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under

My first visit to the doc the nurse measured me and said...oh I'm not sure it's quite 5'. I gave her a very stern look and asked her to check again......

    Puff Popcorn

It's mostly fat and carbs....I'm not sure any doc would be adding that to the list.

    Psych Eval

I've seen a couple of posts here of people who weren't denied but were required to attend additional counseling prior to surgery (so delayed). One had been abused as a child I remember and also said she was an emotional eater when she had to be around family. Another said she was a closet grazer and was on drugs for....I can't remember but it was a personality disorder where the drugs were necessary.

    Approved!

I have a six year old who needs me terribly. He was born with a very rare blood disorder (which he will grow out of) which has left him with feeding issues. His daddy is a wonderful man but he travels frequently and isn't as patient with the feeding issues as I am (I spent three months in hospital learning how to be lol he got out of that). But he needs me as all of our children do right? The thing is, as he grows I want him to learn to love himself. Not to suck out of pictures, or not to walk slowly up a hill...I want to RUN with him. Chase butterflies, walk on the beach and god forbid...swim! I already have to be obsessed with his diet,..and I want him to see that when he is well that isn't how "normal" people live. I don't want to see my pic in the paper again looking dumpy! I want my baby to see what healthy and happy are as he grows out of his issues and while I'm ok as I am, I'm not in love with my looks and that bothers me. I'm tired of diet after diet, up and down....obsessing! I don't want him to learn that from me and as such, for me mostly but also for my family, I'm taking this step. The risks are lower than the risk of complications of obesity are. Read here about gall bladder surgeries, reflux surgery, Cpap machines, diabetics, joint issues, back issues, the list goes on and on! The risks from those surgeries are far higher than this one....so for me it's now, to avoid that later and that's what keeps me from worrying too much about this one. Research the heck out of your doc and don't choose one with no follow up or no preop requirements. Take the tests to be sure you are healthy enough for surgery and every bite you take, think about what you are teaching your lovely children. Then plan well....have some help if you need it after surgery with the kids. You'll be fine...look at this as a much lesser risk and move ahead with that in mind as many of us with small kids have.
  11. I think you are missing out on the logic of weight loss here. Would you consider the hagendas diet for instance a good way to lose weight, as long as you only eat 1000 calories of it daily? Or my favorite, the red wine and jelly belly diet, no fat.... It's not about just hitting a magic number,it's about hitting a proper balance. Unless you are fail to thrive you do not supplement with hagendas or other high fat and sugar foods (my son is and has been for a few years so I have actually lived this choice). The difference between him and us is that his stomach will allow other food in after the ice cream. Ours won't. In addition, the majority of his supplements are things like cocoanut oil or calorie boosting prescription powders that are nutritionally balanced. I could hit his calorie base likely if all I used was chocolate and ice cream, but he would eventually then die from malnutrition because we wouldn't be getting the balance in.

    Overreacting?

You know, I have a different take on this. Yes you should be upset with your friend if you specifically told her not to tell anyone else, but I wonder what kind of friend you andnshenare when you discuss her as jealous. I can't say that anyone in my circle of close friends feels jealousy for me, nor me them and I never have. So perhaps you told someone you don't like much and then expected them to keep a secret? You will also tell office staff...anyone you tell will mention it likely. So what? Own your choice and when you see a genuine compliment as you did, say thank you and move on. I think the focus to be concerned about is your reaction at this point so that this does not repeat itself over and over in your mind. What you did isn't easy, understand that and that people who haven't gone through your experience are not going to understand that. If I had a dime for every time someone thinks my life is easy because I live in a big house or whatever....well I could have paid for two sleeves . big house, small house, big stomach, small stomach, we all have our challenges in life. But rarely does anyone who isn't living them understand. That's human nature, not bitterness or jealousy. Take that word out of your vocabulary and close your fb account. Your life will be the better for it! And congrats on your healthy recovery....and weight loss!

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Welcome to the 23rd pack big daddy (soon to be renamed medium or small? Lol). Skinny pants.....sorry you are having a bit of trouble. I hope it moves along soon as well as the pounds. You're doing pretty impressively now....just don't barf away the calories too much or you'll be a skinny girl with bad teeth . Best wishes to all who are in today! When you are able please check in. I'm sure I'm not the only person who checks to see how folks are doing after their day. It's been great to see that in general people are not worse than expected. I have my last preop doc visit today to find out my time. Then tomorrow a 90 min nut so I can prep for recovery and the future. . I had to turn down two close friends dinner invites and decided to tell them why instead of lying or putting them off. I'm actually ok with that now though you won't see me posted on the docs website lol. I'm not that much of an exhibitionist. Anyhow, morning to all and take care!!!!!!

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

I am doing ten days as well. I was in Disney when I started but did ok (Disney is NOT the land of no carbs people lol). Im actually already down a couple of pounds and it's been a very busy social calendar so that feels good. I'll be in your neck of the woods come spring . Let's hope we are both at goal or close then!

    Psych Eval

That's sad and part of the reason I often vent here because in that time someone who has issues that need to be dealt with is going to be missed and will be one of the idiots posting how much they want Mac and cheese day two and ate it day three, "but only a little". I could have used a min veal....I'm boringly sane . And don't have emotional issues attached to food, and I hope you are the same, but if not, go back and threaten suicide by chocolate cake at that psycs office just for grins and giggles pretty please just after surgery? (I mean don't eat it....just freak them out enough to do their job lol).
  16. Hair loss is associated with rapid weight loss so this varies depending on how quickly you lose and how long your period of rapid loss is (average is 70% loss in the first six too 9 months at which times things slow down).

    Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under

I'm 5'5"....no wait, let me take off my shoes....ok I'm 4'12" now . I am scheduled for aug 23 and am on my preop (less than 40g carbs which is pretty easy). My goal is 108 to 110 and I'm 186.2 now. I love reading all your stats! Please keep posting so we can share the journey together .
  18. You missed the answer....they take out the stretchy portion which not only is super stretchy (weather you have 10% stretchy or 30%) and leave the muscle and non gremlin (my favorite word lol) producing area. If you have more left you won't be successful because the stretchy portion won't restrict. That said, a year or so out you will be able to enjoy just about everything you want but hopefully will have learned to get your basics in. Xmas dinner can be throughly enjoyed....just not three plate fulls with a side of pie (which I saw someone do this Xmas and was astounded when they started complaining about being unable to lose weight....while eating an entire pie!). I digress . this isn't a cattle car surgery. Current studies suggest the route that is taken now is a good one. If (as with all medical technology) things change, well then they will change. Is this something you want to wait for?

    If You Could?...

I don't think you learn compassion by being forced to wear a fat suit etc. you have it because of the way you were raised or you don't. Had I ever called someone fat in my childhood or Jello thighs I'd have been punished. I also don't make fun of people with different abilities, different skin tone, etc. I'm 5' tall and don't make short or tall people jokes and I actually rarely refer to anyone as skinny. (crazy arsed models...sometimes). Ive been both slim and overweight and find remarks on both sides to be offensive. To assume my weight level determines my compassion level is wrong. You don't know that that "skinny" girl might just be a successful sleeve patient...you don't know their story, but building resentment against them just for their weight is not healthy. Build resentment for people because they are rude or less than compassionate on an individual level....not based on their jeans size. It's kinda like saying all "fat" people are depressed or angry.....not fair or correct right?
