Personally, I can't tolerate Unjury or Isopure unflavored in anything but dairy based liquids. I've read that people can tolerate the unflavored proteins in clear liquids but I think it just tastes horrid (think I just poured iced tea in my milk glass). Are you still in liquids? I found that greek yogurt and making protein pudding help me get my protein in... I probably eat more dairy than I ever did before because I don't do well with shakes either - but when all else fails I do force down a shake.

I think I've hit my second stall but I don't care because my stomach noises still make me laugh :-)

It's hard when someone asks you and you're torn with whether/not to tell them so you just throw something out there ... We've all been there LOL. On another note - I only eat a couple of beans sometimes... ask my husband

Everyone that knows about my surgery has learned so much about this not being easy at all but they also know how it has made a difference in my life too. I really feel like this was my second chance and that I wouldn't see 35 without it which is why when someone overweight asks me I do share my experience - the good and the bad.
-
I selectively tell people that I've had surgery... most people do not know and it's my right to not tell them. People are judgmental (like the anesthesiologist that I had a consult with yesterday) and I don't always want to deal with that nor do I always have the energy to deal with it. That said, I almost always tell people that are overweight as well... I like to share my success with them because I know it may of crossed their mind and almost always they have questions for me after that and I'm open to them and even willing to give them my email to talk more later. What I have found is most people - overweight or not are NOSY about weight loss of any type... I'm only a 36 days out and I've dropped from an 18 to a 12 and I get a lot of questions from my thin coworkers and I know they don't need to lose weight... they're just curious... with them I just say that I've drastically cut my calories and fat intake and I eat hardly any carbs and a lot of protein (I usually say it's like Atkins but worse LOL). I also exercise daily. Sometimes they ask what else but I tell them there's not much else to tell... I just eat very little and that I have to if I want to lose weight because I'm hypothyroid. They usually see me eating something because I have breakfast and lunch in my office so that helps... also I tend to have a semi-normal half portion and then I wrap up the rest for later or the next day.

I'm more or less going to stay out of this as I've already made my opinion very clear before... I do want to say though to the ones claiming that if this scares you so bad you aren't ready... I personally think that's a bunch of bull! I was terrified when I went in for my surgery and I cried until they took me into the OR, but I was clearly more researched and prepared than quite a few people that claim they know more. I was also terrified when I gave birth to my oldest daughter... as a matter of fact I had a full blown panic attack while pushing - She's 11 now and I still remember thinking that I couldn't do it or that I'd break her somehow. The truth about fear is that it is often an irrational yet natural response to stress and you can't control it. This is even more so true for people like myself who have a need to be in control of ourselves when we are suddenly putting our life in another's hands... That said, I don't think for a moment that you can place someone else in your shoes and say that because you weren't ready, they aren't ready when they are having a normal psychological reaction to what may be the most stressful decision of their life.

Would You Get The Sleeve Again? If So, Why? If No, Why? Would You Change Anything?
barbi1281 replied to rxkid2384's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Today is my one month and I'd do it again in a second. It was worth it a hundred times over for me... Prior to my sleeve I was in the process of getting into a clinical trial because I'm one of the few people with asthma so bad that I was on all of the top meds at the top doses and still not controlled - they were going to try to open my airways surgically, but so far in the month since my sleeve I've been able to come off 5 of my asthma medications and I physically feel better than I have in years. I was prepared for anything when I had my sleeve done and I think that helped a bit with making rough patches easier. -
Not Full After 2 Weeks
barbi1281 replied to faeriefyre's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same problem on liquids and was terrified that this wasn't going to work for me... once they start letting me eat solids it was a whole new ball game and I'm full on nearly nothing. Even my children laugh at how little I can eat. I say consider yourself lucky because for me being like that has made this entire process pretty easy... I can tolerate most foods and have no problem getting my shakes down . -
Frustrated! :( Feeling Really Down.. :(
barbi1281 replied to msemma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had some of the same issues but I pay more attention to my clothes and what people are saying than the scale. I was sleeved the 16th and stalled 2 weeks out. I don't even think about it much now... I weigh myself and I'm happy when there's a loss and when there's not I just celebrate in other ways - i.e. I'm wearing a smaller size now, people have noticed my weight loss, I've already gotten off of some of my meds, and yesterday I found my collarbones. Whatever NSVs you've had and are having - celebrate them. It's not just about the numbers on the scale... it's about everything overall. If all that fails - go to the pet store and pick up a 25lb bag of dog food and just think that you were carrying that around all day every day before your sleeve - you haven't failed at anything... you've already lost a great deal of weight in one month and there's more to go. Just keep trying and know that most of us hit stalls and it's frustrating and it sucks but we'll all get there sooner or later if we don't lose sight of why we're here . Sending you big hugs  . -
I've had the same thing happen. I am seeing my size change though so just keep going. I lost 9 pounds my first week and then I've lost 2 pounds since (I'm 3.5 weeks out) - absolutely nothing during week two. At the same time I've gone from an 18/tight 16 pre-op to a loose 14/snug 12 now so something is definitely changing .
-
LOL I know exactly what you mean! My new stomach makes those noises all the time when I eat! Sometimes I can't help but laugh at how noisy it is now . I think it's just digestion and nothing to worry about. As long as you don't have any strange or bad feelings you should be ok... if you do, call your doc .

October Sleevers Post Your Photos!
barbi1281 replied to mirav79's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was sleeved the 16th so I'm about 3 and a half weeks out. The one pic was taken about two days post op and the other was today at work . Please excuse the faces I was making at my husband -
I'm pretty sure it all depends on your doctor and how well you're healing... I'm 3 weeks out (yes I'm an anomaly) and I've been given the clearance to eat any kind of meat as long as it's lean and I chew, chew, chew. I've had pork tenderloin, steak, various types of fish, chicken, turkey, and ham and no problems. I have a sleeve buddy who had the same doc and she said he made her wait a bit longer for solids so I know it definitely depends on your body also.

I take Protonix and I drink all day but I find it difficult to get enough to drink because of the straw thing as strange as it is. I actually don't like drinking directly from a cup and for some reason I won't drink unless I'm forcing myself or unless I'm using my favorite cup which is a double walled cup with a straw. It's a very strange quirk of mine - I have a bunch .

No advice but I have the same problem. I wonder if it has to do with having less to lose (just speculating). I had 80 total to lose and seem to be in the same boat all the time. I just try to keep my snacks healthy and stay below my carb and calorie count and exercise. I'm only 3 weeks out but that seems to be the only way I'm going to survive.

Awesome post-op appt today! Moved on to real food and down a total of 15 lbs! Pure awesomeness!

Yep, it's been a while... a crazy month but here I am... almost a month since my last post and a full week post-op! So, I'm going to try to give the short version of my month because I'll be up typing all night if I don't (it's currently midnight!). In my last blog, I believe everything had just been submitted... I got denied twice! Yep you read it right... twice! I guess those idiots didn't know who they were saying no to! They tried to tell me that I wasn't sick enough and that I didn't do my nutrition... blah blah blah... at one point I actually cited Maryland law which requires them to cover the procedure based on my issues . I am known as the queen of arguing but they didn't know that... neither did the chic from my doc's office that kept givin me the run around til I emailed her boss LOL. Long story short... I was sleeved on the 16th even with two denials! So... after my approval... I tried to do my pre-op diet... really I did, but I had less than two weeks between approval and surgery and I seriously worked over 80 hours a week to make sure everything I was responsible for was done before I went out and the stress of that combined with no food caused major migraines so I ate. I ate significantly less, but I ate. One week to the day before surgery, I had a miscarriage... I didn't know I was pregnant until I lost it (I have an IUD so this was not supposed to happen)... I also didn't know you could mourn a child you didn't know you were pregnant with (I learned several things that week)... A visit to the ER explained that my IUD slipped out (it's in but out so not providing protection which is how I got pregnant) and I have a major fibroid . The miscarriage only caused minor problems with my sugery (the anesthesiologist refused to move forward due to my positive preg test from the week prior even after I explained the miscarriage - the staff OB/GYN cleared me for surgery and we moved on). I was terribly stressed prior to surgery due to some of the things people have posted on here... I cried all through pre-surg prep b/c of this. Apparently my surgery was text book despite my having failed miserably at the pre-op diet... do not use this as your idicator though... I believe I got lucky (God feeling I've had a bad enough month)... I did not get a pain pump post-op and the first nurse was being stingy with drugs. Also, my body does not like to pee after anesthesia so I could not go without pushing which was not fun... especially with limited pain meds. I also kept getting horrible hiccups that made me want to die but I survived the night. I didn't sleep much yet the time passed. I left the hospital the next day around 3 p.m. My post-op diet involved 2 days of clears and now I'm on full liquids. I've been healing well so I'm tolerating shakes, yogurt, soups, and I'm hungry pretty quick. From posting and reading, I know this is normal but that doesn't make it suck any less . As for the TMI section of this... farting post op was really hard to do! It really helped to walk to move the gas and to get on all fours if it wouldn't pass (sounds weird but I found this on google when it was hurting bad and it worked LOL). I'm a week out and I still haven't done anything beyond pee in the toilet... tonight I drank a laxative tea and am hoping it works... I know I'm putting stuff in there but I'm wondering what's happening to it . Last thing and I'm signing off... It's 12:20 now so I'm doing awesome! I know I've lost weight... I've weighed myself and I've already seen one physical change. I have my first official post op appointment tomorrow though so I'm going to wait until then to update my weight on here so stay tuned. I'm also hoping to get to move on to mushies early tomorrow since I'm starving and tolerating things so well (he said it was a possibility before the sugery). Good night fellow sleevers and those lurking as I once was .

I'm almost a week post-op (sleeved the 16th) and I'm absolutely starving! I'm sippin, taking my ppi, and I'm starving! Not head hunger either... Someone help!
-
Glad to see I'm not the only one starving. I was sleeved the 16th and I'm ready to gnaw on my arm :-(. I have postop on Tuesday and am hoping I get to move to mushies b4 I bite someone.

No Swallow Test After Surgery. Opinions/questions
barbi1281 replied to mdonaldf's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgeon doesn't do one but he explained his process including the post op endoscopy and his method of checking for leaks. I'm confident and so far four days out I'm doing well (knock on wood :-)). Also, he explained that most surgeons are getting away from the bc of the risk of a "false negative" and then the person later has a leak but they look for everything else bc the leak test was ok when they left the hospital. -
I was inpatient but only 1 night and I had afternoon surgery. I am low BMI but have severe asthma.

Asthma And Anesthesia
barbi1281 replied to NisaletOAM's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just wanted to follow up since I'm 4 days post-op now. I really didn't have any problems with the anesthesia or the surgery. Only problem I had was that the hospital actually did not have all of my meds (as I said, I'm on a lot). They said not to bring any rx meds, but I had mine in my bag just in case (call them my security blanket). Coughing hurt though so I strongly recommend a cough pillow or a surgery pillow (I brought a firm rectangular travel pillow and it helped). -
I was sleeved yesterday and I'm on clear liquids today. I've been getting mean hiccups since last night. I hold my breath and they go away but they always come back. Anyone else have this problem? What'd you do?
-
Let me add I've been getting the since last night when I'd been fasting 24 hours. I haven't had anything today but 1 cup of broth, a half cup of jello and water.
