  1. Qotd-it's funny when my surgeon asked me this question I just stared at him with my mouth open. I'm having such a hard time wrapping my head around possibility of not being morbidly obese! First goal, get RID of that word MORBID from my diagnosis. I remember the first time I saw that in my chart. I felt sick! Anywho, I am 29. I weigh 255. Started this process around 263. Last time I was below 200 I was 17. I remember weighing 175 and feeling good about myself. So I know it's on the higher side, but for now that's my goal. Will readjust as necessary. Anyone else having a hard time wrapping their head around all of this, and the fact that we ARE going to Lose weight?? I'm so grateful for this site and all of you!!
  2. QOTD-How/When did you decide you wanted to have bariatric surgery? Why did you choose the sleeve? I first looked into bariatric surgery in the beginning of 2009. Did my informational session and first NUT appt, and then discovered that the clinic I had started with was not covered by my insurance. So I travelled to another clinic, and did another informational session in the summer of 2009. When they told me about having to wait 12-18 months to have a baby, I decided I did not want to wait that long. So I had my son in March of 2011. Went to the informational session in March of 2012 and here I am.....12 days from surgery!!! Cannot believe it!
  3. My surgeon wanted me to do one week of liquids, but I am going to do two weeks for the same reason as allnewme! So that starts tomorrow!
  4. Hey everyone, i really appreciate the replies. I'm not necessarily even considering the procedure, how I came across it actually is that I was looking up the wikipedia article on sleeving to show a coworker as I thought it could help me explain to her the surgery I was having done as she had never heard of it. I saw a reference to the plication during my research and just did some brief reading on the plication site that is sponsored by the same people as this site. At the surface, it was portrayed as less risky and that was my draw. I'm terrified of complications, so my immediate reaction was to want to do something safer. Obviously, this isn't necessarily the case. I appreciate your insights! Yes, i will just continue with my process and will be gettings sleeved on August 2nd!
  5. Praying for everyone who is being sleeved today!
  6. Alright! Congrats! The countdown is on!
  7. Hey everyone, so I am scheduled to be sleeved on August 2nd. Doing research, I just read about the sleeve plication which sounds like it's less risk and slightly more successful than the gastric sleeve. Anyone else wondering if a plication is better? I don't even think my surgeon does them, and I hate to start the process over again. I wish I had heard about ths procedure sooner.
  8. I too have my gallbladder out and have what is called 'sphincter of odi disorder' essentially the bile duct clogs ....sounds similar to the pain you are experencing. Did you eat something in higher fat or calories recently? If I eat like crap for a few days, I can almost guarantee that I will suffer a little of the same pain. good luck, and please keep us posted. Scary when you are away from home to suffer that.
  9. Mine is August 2nd! 16 days! I cannot beleive it's so close after being on this journey for so long! Cannot wait!
  10. Yes, family and other loved ones can be the best motivators! When I'm struggling I just look at my son and it gives me the push I need! You go girl!
  11. Praying for you, keep us posted.
  12. Congrats! Glad you are feeling well. Good luck with your recovery and new life!
  13. Wow! You look great!! Congrats!!! Thanks for inspiration.
  14. I just said a prayer of comfort for you. Good luck!
  15. Hey everyone. Got my surgery date. August 2nd. Gulp!! I'm super terrified. And excited and anxious and everything else I'm sure you're experiencing as well. Anyone interested in being a text/email buddy??
  16. Yay!!! Now to wait til Friday....
  17. Hey everyone, I thought people in the group could share where they are in the WLS process and any prayer requests they may have! My name is Melanie, I just received insurance approval last week and am anxiously awaiting to hear the date of my surgery. I am just praying for peace of mind leading up to my surgery. My greatest fear is that I will leave my one year old son without a mother.... But I try to just stay positive and focused on how much better our life can be once I am healthier in mind, body, and soul! God bless!
  18. Wow, what a great story! I got a shiver reading it What a blessing!
  19. Oh i'm very sorry to hear this! Hopefully, with the COBRA you can just go as planned! As others said, with no lapse in coverage, you shouldn't have to repeat anything. Good luck and keep us posted!
  20. I have my insurance approval and am waiting on a date. I too am nervous...I have a 1 year old and panic when I think of worse case scenarios. But I know this will make our lives so much better!
  21. Thank you for your posts! The majority of my anxiety comes from the fact that I've had some major health scares/complications in the last few years. Super long story, but basically I had a complicated pregnancy (blood pressure issues, gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia post delivery) followed by a gallbladder surgery 4 months later (surgery itself went okay, but had to have several endoscopic procedures from lingering pain-diagnosed with sphincter of odi disorder) Moral of the story is I feel like i'm cursed with medical procedures, and I don't want a leak or worse! But you are right, I need to stay focused and positive. I want to better my life for myself as well as my family! One day at a time.......
  22. Hey everyone! Glad your surgeries went well! I'm waiting to hear the date of mine....don't know why they take so long to let you know! Hope this forum stays somewhat active.
