  1. You have gone an excellent job, keep up the great work!!

We put so much focus on our sleeve and nutrition and exercise, etc that it really becomes a big part of who we are. Because of this, I think we over analyse every aspect of it at times. You are beautiful, I guarantee people notice and just assume its not a topic you wish to discuss. Take a look around and you will find other people are upset because others are asking about their weight loss.

    Keep up the great work.

  2. I wonder if you could do something like cauliflower with plain greek yogurt ( for protein) and a good low fat cheese that may taste similar. It will taste more like mashed potatoes with cheese but better for you. Just a thought.

Blenderized cauliflower with a wedge of laughing cow was a staple in my puree stage. Was yummy.

OP- I got my taste buds and hunger back around the same time that you seem to be. I found that increasing Water, scheduled eating and variety really helped me from going full bore on an unhealthy meal. When I just couldn't get something out if my head, I got creative. Good luck on ur journey. :)

  3. Two more points and then I'll stop beating this dead horse...

    1) OP asked when, not if. If you haven't had one, simply move on and don't answer. Don't reply by saying you'd never do it. That's not what the OP asked.

    2) For those of you who did reply that you'd never eat something that bad for you now that you've been sleeved, think about your pre-sleeve self. Unless you lived under a rock and had no idea what healthy eating looked like, you knew what you should be eating to lose weight. Now imagine if a thin health nut went up to overweight you and said "if you want to lose weight you should eat healthy and exercise like I do!" How insulted would you be? I would guess pretty insulted, probably upset and somewhat angry.

Well, you're pretty much doing the same thing to the in moderation people. Some people do come here for advice and in that case, then go for it. But not everyone is looking for that, and in this thread, that's not how the OP phrased her question.

I guess other people see this public forum as a place to provide feedback and support, not just give people rainbows and puppy answers. If moderation was so easy, none of us would need surgery.

  4. How long after surgery did anyone wait to have a milk shake?

I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't eat anything unhealthy/not on my docs nutritional plan until 6mos out. Why that day, what I will eat, no clue. :)

Good luck.. if you decide to have a chocolate malt shake from sonic, please don't let me know Hahaha.

  5. Nah' date=' I'm with LT on this. If I could have just said no, I am never eating certain foods again, then I wouldn't have needed this surgery. I could have and should have been able to do it on willpower if that were the case. I am a foodie, I thoroughly enjoy food. I did so to an excess. I got the sleeve so I can continue to enjoy the foods I like, but in moderation. I have not and will not give up anything, sorry. The majority of the time, I try to make healthy choices, but if I want something, I eat it. My sleeve prevents me from overdoing it like I did in the past and I love it.

So, yeah, I am one of those everything in moderation kind of gals.

I think the ones who have avoided all bad foods have done so with the mind set that it took a major/invasive surgery to set them on the right mental path. After doing such a drastic thing to lose weight, why revisit that old lifestyle. The sleeve does not make you lose weight, proper diet does.

    YMMV

  6. All of this information is very helpful. It's nice reading how you all came to make you final decisions. I just went to my last visit at TR last week and am just waiting for BCBS to approve the surgery. Meanwhile, I have been exploring True Results website and am feeling a little uneasy about the content as it relates to the Gastric sleeve. During my visits, the nurse practioner tried to discourage me from choosing the sleeve at least three times and tried to sell me on lapband. The website is very much in line with that and discourages the sleeve everywhere it is mentioned. I'm just wondering if it's too late to go to another facility since I've been with TR for 6 months already. I don't want a set-back but i want the person doing the surgery to belive in it at least as much as I do. I still have not met Dr. Marsden but I will have a list of questions for him when i do.

Let me first repeat again that Dr Marsden is a great man and surgeon. With that said, switching from marsden to kim only cost me about 3 weeks. I started kim's preop diet, his staff worked on getting my paper work from marsden and all was well.

I can tell you, marsden spent almost an hour with me discussing band vs sleeve and at no time did he push one over the other. He simply got me talking about lifestyle, goals, what I was comfortable with etc. Good luck :)

  7. I went back and forth between Dr. Kim and Dr. Marsden...

Marsden - Great guy. Well respected surgeon, especially in the lap band world. Very very friendly and able to help me make a good decision on what was best for me. Call's often required next day call backs. Several promises were not kept by his staff. Only had done a dozen sleeves as of june'ish when i met him.

Kim - Not as much of a personable guy. Very well respected sleeve surgeon. Staff was great. Completed over 1,200 sleeves.

I chose Dr Kim, but doubt either would be a bad choice.

  8. I only had that problem one time after taking some Miralax (sp?). I hadn't taken care of my business in a few to many days, so I mixed the recommended dose in some Water per my doc. I spent the next 24 hrs with a gurgling gut but no progress...

The next morning I got off the couch and did the manly celebration of a good fart aka lift leg high and aim it... oops it wasn't just a fart...

Did I mention we don't wear clothes in our house?

    Thank god for hardwood floors...

    TMI?

    :)

  9. Dr. Kim here too how are things going for you? I was sleeved about a month after you. Have you been to his support group. Just trying to find someone that has been.

Things are going great. I haven't been to any of the group meetings.
