    Super Hangry

I dont know how I did it but I did. You will be able to get through it. After day 3 you will not feel as bad. I just stayed so focused on the surgery. I stayed to myself and after work I went straight to bed. I didnt want to smell food so I stayed away from food and people to be honest. I just became anti-social for a little while.

    6wks post and gaining. Gree

I know you said that you do not believe in starvation mode and I just need to preface this by saying that i believe in it wholeheartedly because I have been dealing with the effects of it in a classic case I might add. I have gone up on the scale aswell in these past few weeks but I know that i retain water frequently. It could be an issue of water or you are losing inches instead of pounds becasue you are gaining lean muscle and losing fat.

    NSV shout outs

As embarrassing as this is to admit I have to say the biggest NSV for me thus far is not having bathroom complications anymore. It is so much easier to get in and get out now.
  4. I had my surgery on March 10th and it is the best decision I have ever made. This is for my health. i have struggled to lose weight all of my life and the scale has been used and abused. You have to decide this for yourself and not let anyone else influence your decision. I feel great and the only thing I have issues with are the mental aspects. Things are back to normal for me and it was not that traumatic for me at all. I dont even feel like I had surgery at all. I have more issue with wanting to eat and then being disappointed that it doesnt taste as good as I think its going to. It is so strange.

    When do you tell him?

I think you should tell them when you are comfortable enough to tell them something personal about yourself. In my past before I met my fiance I would disclose a certain important thing about myself right off the bat just becasue i wanted to weed out the disingenuous men. I dont want to waste my time with someone that wants to look through rose colored glasses. I want someone that is going to accept me warts and all. If they cant then good for me. I have been rejected due to this and yes it hurts but it would hurt more if I started building an emotional bond with someone and then find out they are superficial losers. Good luck and just be you.
  6. Don't worry, He'll get over it. Just ignore his irrational behavior. He is just having a tantrum and sometimes we have to act like mothers and walk away from the screaming children so they can cool off and realize their own issues. I swear he will come around. We cant change others but we can change how we handle and cope with the actions of those around us. Good luck. Stay positive and clear headed. This is about your health.

    How bad is the hunger?

I think it is relative to people. I have seen people say they dont get hungry but I on the other hand get hungry. I will eat something and be completely unsatisfied psychologically cause I hype myself up before i take a bite of food thinking it is going to taste devine but much to my dismay I am bored very quick with eating cause it is not meeting my high expectation of food. This is all mental.

    Isopure drinks

The apple/melon is okay. I have not tasted the others. It is very very sweet. The texture reminds me of watery jello. I have not had it since I had surgery cause the artificial sweetners make my mouth foam up. Not a good feeling
  9. @@TWJ I had staples and no band. I know the other surgeon that works in my surgeons practice uses glue instead of staples. Either way, Whatever works for them I guess. I had mine removed and it really was no biggie. My scars are a light pink and they are fading every week.

    Hunger pains

@@Jimetta Oh yes, I know about that. I had the worst hunger pains. I still get them sometimes. I found that it was more of an acid reflux problem than anything. I started taking prilosec and it has dissapated drastically. Hang in there. it does get better. I am on my 5th week now and let me say, I am over the moon with my progress. I am so happy to be off the liquids and eating again. Once you start to eat food again you will start feeling better. I can still only eat 3 oz at a time. Thats a whole other issue cause it is mental...lol
  11. @@Goldy6575 I think everyone has had this feeling of dread. I have been fearful that I would lose some and gain it all back but that cant happen now. We have been jaded by our past. You are just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Trust me when i say this "You will lose your excess weight". You will no longer have a fear of failing cause this will work for you. Just follow the surgeons orders and you will look back at your self doubt and laugh about it. Be proud of each ounce of loss.

    Fruit....

@@teshadb Personally i stay away from fruit. Our bodies dont know one sugar from another. I dont think its a problem having it sometimes but I would imagine that it will lead to deeper cravings for sweets. I would just say to keep control of it and when you do eat fruit in small portions try eating it with some Protein.
  13. Hey everyone! I just wanted to post something that I found to be an amazing inspiration to me. I hear all the time about starvation mode but never really took the time to know exactly what is happening inside my body. I wanted to share this link for anyone that is interested in knowing the biology of our bodies. This helped me to understand that I am normal and my body knows exactly what it is doing. Thank God for science! Anyway, Enjoy and thanks for reading. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starvation_response

    TODDLERS

@@nerkerle I dont have any children but I can say you will be feeling back to yourself in about a week. I would just recommend resting as much as possible within that week because the hardest part for me was the anesthesia. It takes a little while for you to kick that out of your body. Other than that you will be golden.

    Frustrated! Need advice...

I agree with @@JamieLogical I also would like to add that this can become a problem because it is becoming in a sense another eating disorder but to the extream other side of what we have all been through. Do not be afraid of food. Your body needs food to sustain you. It may have been a weapon for us before the surgery but that was our issues and not the food itself. If you are 4 months out and eating only 800 calories a day on top of exercise you are essentially starving yourself and being counterprodutive. Your body will start to use your new formed muscle mass as energy to fuel your brain. Your body needs to convert fat and protein into glucose in order to fuel your brain and you need to respect its natural mechanism. Please take care.

    Terrible thirst after surgery

@@Jaimianna79 I had the most awful thirst too. It was like I had been walking around in the desert for weeks. I begged for a Water sponge. The nurses gave into my requests because I would not leave them alone about it. My tongue was sticking to the roof of my mouth when I tried talking and my lips were stuck to my gums. I guess you dont hear much about it cause it is a trauma that we just want to forget. deny,deny,deny...lol
  18. @ When you get a chance you should research starvation mode. It is very interesting actually. Our bodies were designed to hold on to as much fat as possible when it feels as though you are going through a famine. It will eventually lose the battle but at a cost. It is imperitive that were are getting enough Protein in our diet daily or it will start converting your muscle to glucose in order for proper brain function. We are amazing mechanisms. I feel your pain though.

    I'm Having a Breakdown

@@Tanika81 I felt the same way and I have read lots of posts on this forum about the dreaded feeling of failure. Its becasue you have tried so many things and failed so many times before. We are stuck in the perpetual trap of murphys law. We think "Whatever can go wrong will go wrong". Its a lie we tell ourselves. You will succeed. You will be fine and you will overcome this feeling of dread. We will all preservere. Take life by the ass and run with it!

    Protein

@@eyhornmom I had a hard time till I started using premier Protein chocolate. 30g protein in 11oz. I feel your pain.
  21. @ No matter if you are obese, overweight, average or underweight you are beautiful and you were wonderfully made. I know society makes us feel like we are not normal but you are above normal. I dont know you personally but i do know that each and everyone of us is special and made for purpose. Screw society and their models. They are liars and con artists. Be free from the visuals around us. I know I sound like a tree hugger but I know how you feel even though i have only started my journey. i have lost weight and gained weight and been on this rollercoaster since childhood and one thing I have come to terms with is I dont want to be a model and i dont want to be perfect. Perfect is boring.
  22. I wonder if the doctor can give her the Transderm scop. I had that on for 3 days after the surgery and it really did help. just a suggestion. I am not a nurse or a doctor. I was also given a wristband that sent an electric shock on my wrist and still have it. I can send it to you to try if you think that might work. I know they sell the bands over the counter that are just wrist bands that apply accupressure to the wrist. It is supposed to help with nausea. let me know. thanks
  23. @@kmd0235 I called my insurance company and they told me about the approval before my Doctor even knew i was approved. it was a breath of fresh air.

Am I going through STARVATION MODE?!

@@x0CheekzVSG Do not be afraid you are going to fail. I went through exactly what you are going through. Yes you are in starvation mode. your body doesnt know that you are trying to lose weight for your health, All it knows is that you are starving therefore it is trying to help you by keeping your body fat. Try to eat some ricotta and drink your Protein shakes. You will be fine. I know you are afraid cause i was too but that is the old diet mentality coming through. We all tried and failed so much that it is locked in our brains. You will succeed and you will eventually be hungry again. All that is expected of you is your best and no more than that. Try to eat what you can and you will move on to other varieties of food. My issue was the lack of options. If you ever need to just vent send me a message.
