  1. I had gallbladder surgery exactly 3 months after vsg. Gallbladder surgery recovery was harder for me also. If i didnt take my pain meds around the clock i felt like i had been sawed in half. I also needed assistance getting in and out of bed.

Then on the 5th day it was like I never even had surgery. My instructions were to eat normal (normal for wls surgery patients, because we already eat pretty good, and avoid high fat). I learned the first time that milk was not my friend (but that only lasted a few weeks).

As far as exercise, he was pretty laid back.

Take it easy the first week (like i had any other choice ;) lol) and to not swim or take a bath until my incisions were closed (that was 2 weeks).

    Get plenty of rest!

  2. My gallbladder surgeon seemed surprised that I chose the sleeve over the bypass when I told him that i had the sleeve. I had a starting bmi of 65.1

Normally they try to talk patients into a bypass with high bmi.

I am 5 months out and down 118 pounds. I am self pay so there is NO WAY I am paying to convert this, maybe thats why I am so disciplined ;)

Its a personal decision. Research and decide whats best for you. Good Luck!!

  3. sleep apnea is pretty serious. I was diagnosed in 2005. I did not start using my machine regularly until 2010. When someone I knew died during their sleep it was a real wake up call for me.

I never liked wearing it. I would have panic attacks, and in my sleep I would rip the mask off, wake up in the morning with it on the floor. Once i started using it regularly i realized how it was actually really needed and how much better i felt after a real rested nights sleep. I wish i wouldn't have been so stubborn about it those first few years, that was risky.

Now that i have lost a lot of weight, my pressure is lower and hopefully i wont need it forever.

I would comply. It definitely cant hurt. And it is true that most surgeons will not operate if you are not using it. And there is no way to fake the computer chip. Trust me, i even tried just turning it on and leaving it on all night. Doctor was not amused. ;) i was young and defiant lol

  4. I have always been sensitive to smell but after i had surgery it was 10 times worse! I smell everything from a mile away. My husband doesnt have a sense of smell at all, so he thinks i'm nuts ;)

I also have a heightened sense of taste which is far worse for me because I couldnt stomach Protein shakes anymore. I drank them everyday for months pre op. but afterwards all i could taste were chemicals and the whey. No flavoring could mask it. I would stand over my sink gagging.

I am 5 months post op and it has calmed down a little. Or I am just used to it ;)

  5. This is our first year not selling. I am not usually a "gotta have it" gs cookie person but each year I would want one and then sit and eat half of a box, or more and then not touch them the rest of the year. Now that i am sleeved, i get stomach flu like symptoms from sugar (i tried a cookie on christmas eve).

I will not be buying any Cookies, but i will be donating to them when i see them at the stores.

Last year while selling cookies in front of the grocery store, people would hand me $4 and say "give a free box to the next person". I plan on doing that also. I love playing pay it forward :)

  6. I had my gallbladder removed 12 weeks after vsg. I never had gallbladder issues but starting about a month post op i kept getting these pains under my right rib cage and also the right shoulder blade. About a half hour after i ate. My doctor ordered tests at my 3 month visit but my gallbladder didnt want to wait. The next day i had an all out GB attack! Ended up in the ER. Pretty much the worst day of my entire life!!! I had surgery the following week!

  7. I actually had a surgery date for RNY in 2006 that I backed out of. It didnt feel right for me.

Last year my husband and I went to a seminar to consider the lap band and that is when we were introduced to the sleeve. We looked at each other at the same time and said yep this is it!

I had surgery in August. Lost 116 so far and i am as happy as I could be :)

I always kicked myself for not following through in 2006 with the RNY, but it just goes to show that everything happens for a reason and to listen to your instincts!

Good luck with your decision :)

  8. I have heard the debate back and forth about whether or not sleeve patients get dumping syndrome like bypass patients do. I am not really sure what to think but here is what has happened to me.

On Christmas eve we made Cookies for "santa" and i sat down with my daughter as she had a cookie before bed. I decided to have a tiny piece. That piece turned into a whole cookie. I was 4 1/2months post op at the time and quite frankly, this was my first slip up since surgery. I didn't need to beat myself up for it, my sleeve did that for me.

I threw up, hot flashes, cold sweats, heart racing, shaking, and laying on the floor. It didnt "hurt", but it was something I couldnt control.. The entire episode lasted about 20-30 minutes.

Needless to say I will not touch sweets. Ever again. Scared the hell out of me!!!
