Onederland! And 10 month update :)

I cannot wear a single thing from before! Not even shoes!
  2. I no longer "need" bread. That seems crazy to me. I never understood how people could pass up bread on a table, breadsticks, bagels, etc. I just dont crave it anymore. Its uninteresting. It takes up space that can be used for Protein. Sure i might eat 1/2 piece of whole grain toast for Breakfast. But the addiction is gone. I am also sugar intolerant. Sugar makes me dizzy, shaky, nauseous, hot sweats, cold chills, dry heave, etc. i basically end up on the floor in the fetal position. Needless to say, I steer clear of sugar.
  3. I was able to stop using my cpap at 9 months post op. its been a month now and I feel great! I had been using it so many years that it was hard to sleep without it at first! who would have thought???

Teeth correction needed as a VSG vet?

I have the gap left open from where i lost my molar. My orthodontist and dentist decided that was the best method. Once i get my braces off i will need an implant. I think its good to care about our dental health, even cosmetically. If i am working my butt off exercising, eating right and making myself healthy.....i am going to do the whole package! Heck, i even traded the glasses in for contacts finally! I am a whole new girl when people see me! Complete with braces to match my kids!

Teeth correction needed as a VSG vet?

I avoided the dentist for a long time. I had this weird dentist phobia. Lol Since surgery i have been very proactive about my teeth/smile. I have a missing molar too. It was a baby tooth that didnt fall out until i was 32. I will eventually get an implant. But yes, very costly. I have always been very self conscious about my overbite and my top k9's were very slanted. So I am also 6 months into wearing braces. 18 months to go!! I inspired my husband to get braces too. His teeth were far worse than mine. So now both of us and both kids are all in braces at the same time. Fun! lol
  6. I like the taste of EAS too. I dont really "enjoy" drinking any protein shakes period (i drank them for way too long even before vsg), but when I really need to have one i usually grab the premier protein RTD from costco. It has the most protein, so I feel like I am getting the most bang for my buck!
  7. I like premier protein chocolate the best.

    Sugar.....?

Not everyone feels like this from sugar after vsg surgery, but it sounds like you, like me, will experience this with sugar. And seems how I am now almost 10 months out, I dont see it going away anytime soon. At least not for me. When I eat sugar, I get dizzy, nauseous, hot sweats, cold chills, stomach cramps, dry heeves, diarrhea, and occasionally....vomiting. I dont get all symptoms every time, and some times a symptom can be worse than the last time. It sucks. Even stuff you wouldnt even think about has sugar and might send me into a sugar attack! The first time it happened i ended up in the fetal position on the floor. I was so freaked out i had no idea why this was happening. I try to be very diligent about checking sugar content. On the bright side, I cant cheat and eat a cookie or a cupcake. So it keeps me in line

    Sushi after surgery

I love spicy tuna rolls if i order a roll or a philly roll. and my fav sushi chef knows about my surgery, so she uses less rice when she makes my roll. And when i order sashimi she cuts it into bite size pieces I am almost 10 months post op. my favorite sashimi is a mix of salmon and tuna. when i order sashimi the amount she makes me equals 3 1/2 ounces. I usually have a few bite size pieces left over that my husband gets (he doesnt mind!) i still weigh my food religiously And when i order a roll, made with less rice, it is cut into 8 pieces and i can only eat 3-4.

I downloaded a free calling app and a free texting app. Worked like a charm. Did not cost me an extra penny while I was in Mexico!

    my situation...Part2

It takes a lot to admit jealousy. It takes a lot more to accept an apology. Glad it went as well as it did. Good job confronting her and settling it like adults

    The look

<3 if it means anything, I am proud of you! I know exactly what you mean though! I had to realize that its just not in some people to acknowledge the good in peoples lives. Thats their choice! Unfortunately, its a sad one! I love to congratulate people. Whether its weight loss , a pay raise, a new hair style, an unexpected addition to the family......share joy!

    Finally decided on Dr. Ramos-Kelly

I had surgery with Dr. Kelly last August. Everything went smoothly. The hospital was clean, staff was helpful and friendly. The hotel is beautiful and if i ever go back, i will spend all of my time there! I am 9 months, 10 days post op and down more than 150 pounds!

    So confused! Where to start?!

The way I did it was I made a list of all of the surgeons people talked about on here. And then I did my research. And I researched the heck out of them! I dont know about everyone else, but for me there was one surgeon that stood out to me, and it just seemed like he was the right choice. I felt at peace with that decision. It all worked out perfectly, like it was happening exactly how it was meant to. So i know i made the right decision! Best of luck to you! I am 9 months, 10 days post op and have lost more than 150 pounds. My life is truly amazing!

    Food Scale!

And I suggest buying a portable food scale. Its about the size of a cellphone and it really comes in handy. I dont use it as much as my home scale, obviously because i eat mostly at home, but it is so worth it for under $10. I may/may not look like a drug dealer pulling my little scale out of my purse, but i dont care

    Food Scale!

I am 8 1/2 months post op and still use my food scale everyday.

    Sushi!

You will be surprised. Your relationship with food can change. Before surgery i couldnt understand how people could actually order no rice with their sushi, not eat the bread on the table at restaurants or not drink diet coke everyday. But now i can understand. I can do all of those things. I can also choose to eat some rice, or have a small piece of the bread on the table. if i want some i can have a small amount and walk away. But i dont have this strong desire for it anymore. And i dont feel deprived or miserable. And the amount of sugar in sushi rice isnt that bad. I have a severe intolerance to sugar since surgery and i have never reacted bad to sushi rice.

    Sushi!

Oh, and my favorite sushi chef is more happy to accommodate my new ways of eating. She will make me a mini sashimi or if she makes me a roll she uses less rice.

    Sushi!

I am 8 1/2 months post op and one of my biggest fears pre op was giving up sushi. I assure you, sushi will not be gone forever! But i will say that i have a much different relationship with rice as i used to have. I eat sushi once a week. I mostly order sashimi. But usually have 1 or 2 pieces of a roll my husband orders. And sometimes i dont even want any. I am perfectly fine eating sushi with no rice. I still love sushi. And i am glad that i didnt have to give it up forever. But i am not obsessed with needing rice like i used to be

    Tanning Beds

I am 8 1/2 months post op. i just started tanning a few weeks ago. I didnt wait for any specific time, thats just when tanning started to interest me again must be the spring fever I had very light scars and now that my tummy is getting tan, they are basically non-existent! The only scar that is noticeable is from my gall bladder surgery that i had a few months after vsg. Good luck to everyone with your tanning! I love my "me" time 2-3 times a week just laying in the tanning bed listening to music
