  1. Hi - I know things can seem fustrating at times. I just hit my 1 yr mark yesterday. The first month or so for me was hard as your body is having withdrawals from everything. For me it was a mental thing - just continue doing what you are doing and the weight will come off.

    As it was explained to me - your body drops weight and then pauses and then another drop and so on. You lost an incredible amount of weight in 1.5 weeks so your body needs a moment to reset.

    It was the best thing I have ever done for myself. You are doing GREAT!!! Keep up the good work and you will be amazed at how fast the year will fly by and next thing you know it you will be looking at a very different person in the mirror!!

  2. All of those things you are questioning are normal. You just have to decide if the pros outweigh the cons for YOU. For me, I was scared and had many of the what ifs you had but am so glad that I got this tool to help me get healthy. My surgeon's office has a mandatory pre-op class with the surgical nurse and NUT to go over the entire process in addition to the initial seminar with the surgeon.

    The part about your surgeon does concern me. I had to meet my surgeon two times pre-op as well as his PA. It is also mandatory to see him at my 4 & 9 month visit. The other times I have the option of the nurse practioner or the surgeon. If I were you I would want to know WHY he won't meet with you pre-op and post-op unless you have complications.

  3. A big milestone on Monday....finally hit onederland!!! I was in a stall for 3 weeks and now I couldn't be happier!!!

    I knew that I would get there but never imagined just how GOOD I would feel once I hit that mark. It has been 20 years since I have seen a "1" at the beginning of my weight.

    Wishing everyone else continued success!!!

  4. Update...1/29

    Major stall...been back & forth for 3 weeks now. Very frustrating but I'll just keep going!!! I haven't been this low in almost 20 years.... I think my body is fighting me a little bit.

    2.5 weeks left so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

    HW = 278

    SW (7-17) = 267.6

    CW = 200

    GW = 195

    Still 5 more pounds to go!!!!

  5. I was sleeved 7/17 and down 78# total. I am 5' 2'' and was 267.6 on day of surgery and 274 when I cam home (all of the fluids). I am working on increasing my calories to 800 per NUT requirements - with no hunger I have to set my phone to remind me to eat....feels like a full time job!!! :)

    My plan calls for 3 meals (2-3oz of Protein + 0.5oz of non-starchy veggie) and 2 Snacks (approx 100 calories each) (so basically eating something every 2hrs), along with 64 oz Water and daily Vitamins. Carbs under 50 and Protein 60-100g per day. I have found that my loss has been consistant and I weigh everyday on the Wii fit (it keeps track of my BMI and weight so I can see the pattern of loss over time). My usual loss goes down and then a small bounce up and then down again.

    Slow and steady wins the race - at the beginning I expected huge losses but I think I prefer the steadiness. My body is shrinking and no loose skin.

    Congrats on everyone' wonderful success!!!

  6. I don't know how long postoperative you are but I am almost 6 months and have experienced what you are talking about.

    My dr said that as the weight comes off your joints, ligaments and tendons have to readjust. Just think that you walked differently with the excess weight and now your body has to adjust to the new posture and less strain on your lower joints In particular. I found that hot baths or showers helped as well as time.

    I would discuss with your dr at your next visit. Best of luck to you!

  7. Well I think I was a bit too optimistic!!! I came within 7# of my goal. In the meantime, I did hit several personal goals...1) lowest weight since I was married (almost 17 years ago...even with numerous dieting attempts in between)...2) weigh less then hubby!!!...3) feel in control of my life for 1st time in more years then I care to admit...4) don't recognize myself in the mirror due to loss (used to be the other way..didn't recognize due to my size).

    I have to say that this journey is filled with a mixture of so many emotions...happiness, excitement, nervousness, fear, etc. I wish all of us continued support & success on our journey to healthier & happier lives.

    Final New Year's weigh-in = 202

    So officially stand at approx. 66# lost since surgery (7/17) & 76# total since Dec 2011.

    So hoping I hit onderland before my birthday on January 17th!!!!

  8. I had severe itching and swelling all around my incisions...funny thing is for some reason the adhesive from the bandages gave me a severe dermatological reaction. Even though I had no reaction from surgery a few months prior.

    Just give your dr a call and let them know what is going on and see what the recommend. I used antihistamines and benadryl cream. It cleared up after a week or two. I completely sympathize with you - hope you feel better soon.

  9. Had surgery 7/17 and down total 75#...mostly lose about 12-14# month steady except last 2 months due to bad fall and cracked tailbone (ouch). I'm on the mend and back to exercise program. Still no hunger and do well most days to get everything in...fluids are my BIG problem.

    I feel like a NEW person - so much energy and in such a better mood (according to my kids - lol). I'm glad to see everyone doing well - so close to onderland!!!

    Wishing everyone continued success!!
