Age, weight, exercise level, and body frame will probably determine how much extra 'loose' skin you will have. I mean it really does vary. I have seen some people who are in their 300's exercise vigarously and much of the skin bounced back. Many do have that small belly hang. I have loose skin already from losing and gaining practically half my life. I have noooo clue what I will look like when I start losing the weight. It will be either a surprise or a nightmare. Either way, I am not stressing about it because as Carolina said above "better to have sag then to be obese". And what can be a better feeling than that is to be healthy and more active

You will be fine. I did a liquid diet two days pre op and weighed exactly the same as my first dr appointment two weeks earlier. I was worried about the same thing but I had no problems. Every person is different. Think positive thoughts and try your best to get rest so your body can heal after you get your band.

Thanks everyone! I am loving all the support and ideas! I know this will be the hardest part of all of this for me and I will just have to push through it. As long as I can have a couple other things besides Protein Shakes and Water I am hoping ill be okay. Also I am hoping my surgeon will give me a list I can work off of of things I can have. DAY BY DAY! RIght ladies?! lol.

i'm currently on day 9 of the liquid pre-op... and, trust me, i was terrified of it too! BUT... you can totally do it! if i can, anyone can! i normally get headaches easily, but had no headaches and the first 3 days were not fun and you obsess about what you cant have. and day 4 i was miserable... worst day. but after that, i was cool about it. just mourn the food you wont be eating and know that there IS an end in sight. i've even been out to eat with friends and i just have broth. just try not to think about it too much. but... like everyone here tells me... its worth it!! and when you start fitting into smaller things, that will be your encouragement!

I understand ! I was scared also.what kept me going was knowing it was temporary, knowing it will help me have a successful surgery, and knowing that I had to conquer this if there was any hope of living with the band.My tip is to NEVER leave home without ur soups/drinks.Like another post said I wasn't hungry often after day 3 BUT if i did it hit quick and hard but having ur drink right there will kill it.The couple of times I wasn't prepared when hungar hit I felt like a crazy woman that could eat a house.but soon as I put a little warm Soup on it I felt much better ! Good Luck !

No disrespect intended, but................. to me looking "better" is just one of the many bonus's we all got with the band. Yes, we all got banded to get slimmer and healthier, but if you're going to lose excess weight you kind of have to expect that you're going to look "better." That just goes with the territory ! Diamonds rings are nice looking but when you have them cleaned and polished, they look even better ! Nothing wrong with the diamond in the first place, it just looks better when its polished. Well honey....................... you're a diamond too !!!!

Well I look a lot better with 1 chin then 3 .... I used to be in denial about how fat I was until I would catch a glimpse of myself in a glass door or mirror while out shopping it was enough to ruin the day.
Post op and weight loss I saw someone in a tv monitor while standing in line at CVS and I thought oh she has the same shirt on as me..................... it was me. *I looked okay before I was well put together for a fat lad y... now People compliment me on my outfit not my jewelry They tell fat folks to wear Jewelry to bring the eye up now they can even look down. YAY so keep telling me I look better I love it and I earned it.............

Hi, Im new to this whole blog thing. I had my lap band done on april 2nd 2012. In may of 2010 I had a cartiledge transplant done bc I am too young for a total knee replacement. Now, before that surgery I was running 3-4 miles a few times a week. It was a great stress relief for me. now I am only able to do the ellipitcal. I found that it takes time to build your endurance up and to start slowly and also not all ellipticals are the same. find the right fit as far as stride goes. Patience is key, as I know my weight didnt just appear over night, the road to exercising and building your time up will take some time. Water aerobics is great for your joints also. I've actually started the c25k on the elliptical. I can never run again but on the machine from hell I can work out like i used to without the added stress on my knees. Hang in there.

I am 4 mos post op and have been working on a walking regimen. I was walking 3-4 miles a night, and began having some heel blistering and Achilles tendon pain. I went to a specialty shoe store, had my gait analyzed and bought some Asics sneaks which are made for people who put more pressure on the heel portion odd the foot while walking. I have also started walking one night and resting the next, still 4 miles, but 3 to four times a week. I am still having problems with my left heel and have just started glucosamine chondroitin 3x a day. If it gets bad, I am using Tylenol arthritis once a day. I am 55, excited about getting more active, and am down 38 pounds since surgery with 85 pounds to go. Any suggestions? Indon't want to stop my routine, but I want to be careful of my heel, too!

Hi guys, well I am day 1 post op, everything went well, I am in a lot more pain than I anticipated. I remember waking up in recovery in severe pain and I was kinda surprised at that. Was given alot of pain meds and spent about 2 1/2 hours in recovery before going to my room. I slept off and on all day yesterday and got home today. I had the barium swallow and this morning and everything went down fine!! I don't have any gas pains yet. More inside pains if that makes sense. Some pain on the left thats where my port is the doctor said. He said my liver was perfect didn't need to retract that during the procedure which means the preop diet was a success!! Anyway, i'm just going to take it easy drinking a little juice and broth for dinner not too hungry at all but I know I better try to drink. Was given liquid roxicet for pain and took that. I do seem to be swollen in my belly although my incisions are small and painless. I'm glad to be on the "banded" side now!!! Good luck to the rest of the May bandsters!!!
