  1. I just tell people that I am on a low calorie, low carb, and high Protein diet. They usually ask what diet it is and I said it's my own after much research. I don't like the Atkins as it cuts out all carbs and people usually gain most of their weight back once they add them back in; therefore, I eat reduced carbs during meals. I cut out pop and other sugar to be healthy-- I learned at weight watchers that your body can only process a certain amount of sugar per day... the rest being stored as fat. And low calorie because you can't be on a diet and eat a 1000 calorie meal You do what is comfortable but that's something I've been doing and it seems to be working just fine

    Soo Embarrassing Taking Before Pictures

I cried after I took my before pictures as I didn't realize how big I really was until that point in time. You are going to do great and you will look amazing very soon. I am much healthier and am proud at how far I have come. Before I would grab food and drinks that I loved to intake, throwing it in the shopping cart. Now, I actually look at the nutritional value of things and know what's good and what isn't. Yay!

    Golf Post-Op?

I would say give it 4-6 weeks, returning the same time as you would physical exercise. Golf involves swinging and twisting of the torso. That's where all your incision sites will be. I have done minimal lifting and physical activity, will be one month out from surgery next week, AND AM STILL HAVING ISSUES WITH MY INCISION SITES. Some people on VST went back to activity once their incisions were out and they reopened their sites. Be careful and put yourself and your health first; golf will never disappear
  4. Can't believe my one month anniversary is next week!

Where Oh Where Are The Ladies?!?!?

I'm doing good, and you? Still having issues with my incision sites but we're taking it week by week. I actually ordered from Unjury.com- the chicken Soup and the unflavored Protein. Best decision yet! The unflavored protein mixes well with just about everything and it doesn't thicken drinks, either. The chicken soup is very tasty as well. You get 15-17 scoops out of the bucket for roughly $25.00. Probably a bit more expensive than other brands and such but it tastes well and I received my order within a day. Hope all is well with you. 6. Heading back to urgent care Tuesday evening to see what the next option is with my incision sites. Please say a prayer for me :'(

  7. I know it's in our profile but I thought it would be easier to put our dates together My procedure is taking place on July 19, 2012. I am anxious and nervous all at the same time. I feel and imagine myself to be much smaller than what is projected back in the mirror. One of the things I'm most excited to do post-op is complete an entire Zumba class without simplfying the moves because of my knees or even difficulty breathing. What is the one thing you are looking forward to most after the surgery??

Worst Nightmare Came True... Infection :(

I need help-- I am more scared now than I was before getting sleeved. I had my stitches removed this week at an urgent care setting in TN, since it is my new home and I do not have a primary care doctor at the moment. Three of the five incision sites look pretty bad- all full of puss, red and refusing to close. The incision site where my drain was has closed but is pink/red all the way around and one end is sore when I push. Then the incision near my bra line isn't severe but isn't in the clear either. How did this happen? I made sure to clean them, put coverings on, took all my antibiotics, etc. While I would hate for someone else to have infectons like me, I really need your support. What did you do? What happened?? I was given an antiobiotic cream and was told that if I don't see a difference in 48 hours (Sunday night) then we need to go forth with plan two. I'm not sure of the next option but the doctor did say if nothing works, it could be internal infection meaning I need to make a trip to the OR to get recut and cleaned. I'm really hoping this isn't the case. Please say prayers for me. I'm so scared :'(

Where Oh Where Are The Ladies?!?!?

Anyone find a protein powder they like? I've been plugging my nose and gagging, trying to get through the one I have now since I've spent way too much time and money looking into these things.
  11. So glad someone made this group. I've missed you all so much! I apologize for not getting the contact information out. US Airways lost my luggage and they were in there. It's been over two weeks and still no word on where my luggage is. They think it could have been stolen since they made me check it in as the staff wouldn't help put it up in the overhead bin since if they got hurt, the flight automatically gets cancelled. Ugh! Never flying them again Hope everyone's recovery is going well. I was doing great until this week when I got my stitches out. Three of the five sights are severly infected, one is moderate, and the other is unknown-- it's closed but is sore to touch, leaving the doc to suspect further infection. Ugh! I did everything to keep them cleaned and covered. I was given an antibiotic cream and am hoping and praying it works, as secondary options could incude a trip to the OR to have them cut back open. Please say prayers- I am more scared now than I was before the sleeve. Let me know how you're doing
  12. Stitches are out but 3 of my 5 incisions are infected. I did everything I could to avoid, too. Boo!

Wtf! 3 Wks Out And Only Lost 8 Lbs?!?

What does your daily diet consist of?
  14. I'm 11 days out from surgery and have yet to have a protein drink/shake. Time to get on board.... Any suggestons?

    Need Help,day 4 Post Op

I am 10 days post-op and have the grumbling in the stomach. My friend is 1.5 years post op and he still has the grumbly stomach. While it may not be the same for all, I think it's something we may have to get used to...
  16. Sorry for being MIA lately- I plan to jump on tomorrow to blog about my experience and return messages. It's been 9 days since surgery and I feel GREAT!!

    Just Joined The Loser's Bench!

Surgery went well and recovery is off to what seems to be a good start (I'll post more details at a later time). Drinking liquids is SO incredibly hard as it feels stuck going down. I'm really hoping this goes away in the near future. I have been walking much and feel great. One thing I am worried about are my stitches. All five areas are a bit red and one had liquid on the outside that was of a yellow color-- I guess it could be pus. They don't hurt, no fever, etc. Is my fear of having an infection coming true??

    Less Than 24 Hours..... Hopefully!?!?

Here I am, writing this blog from the Detroit airport. I still can't believe how fast this day has come! I'm feeling happy, anxious, nervous, excited, scared.... etc. While most people in my position would be worried about the procedure tomorrow, I'm more worried about getting to California in time for my procedure. I have sat through TWO cancelled flights and am praying I'll board and depart on the third booking. And then there's the connecting flight in Arizona.... ay caramba! Please say a couple prayers for me. I need this and am beyond ready to begin this journey to my new, healthier life.
  19. Less than 24 hours until the big day! Praying that my third flight booking doesn't get cancelled....

  20. Got the job in Tennessee!! With all the stress from the job search and move from MI to TN, I almost forgot about a big procedure coming up in 4 DAYS!! I'm beyond ready for my new life to begin :)

  21. Beyond stressed.... I just want to curl up in a ball and cry. I planned my surgery months in advance and everything is getting in the way. I will be in TN for an interview and they are taking me out for dinner (there goes my pre-op liquid diet), I will be moving to TN a week after my surgery (not supposed to lift), AND am forced to drive 9 hours down in a car (blood clots?). While everything I worked for is finally coming true, the one thing I want and need most is now in the way. I just don...

    Driving For 9 Hours

This may be an unusual question, but how do you know you have a blood clot? Are there any signs or symptoms that lead to one?? I feel as though the drive should be okay, right?. I mean, you sleep 6-8 hours a night with minimal movement. I'll just play some fun dance music and make sure I'm moving all joints a bit, with a stop half way to walk for roughly 5-10 minutes.

    Driving For 9 Hours

DAMN! I never thought about this. I have a 9 hour drive 1.5 weeks post-op. I guess I'll have to remember to pull over half way to take a potty break. Thanks for posting, Johnathan.

    Am I Screwed!?

Alrighty. For some of who who have read my past blogs or posts, you would have found out that I am doing the surgery alone... completely behind my family's back. Not one person in my family knows. My surgery is taking place in Mexico and they believe I'm going to Canada for a wedding. Okay... here goes nothin' My surgery is scheduled for July 19th, returning back home on Monday July 23rd. I am a recent grad, walking in May with my masters degree. If things are going as good as I hope they are, I may be offered a job and will be required to move from Michigan to Tennessee (about a 9 hour drive). I'm not supposed to lift anything for 6 weeks so moving is going to be a blast. As bad as it sounds, I'm planning to "throw out my back"... which may be believable after dealing with the soreness from the surgery. Additionally, training starts the following Monday on the 30th. Am I screwed? I know moving isn't going to be fun but how about training for my new job? Will I be able to sit through training and do what needs to be done after less than 2 weeks post-op??? Change the flight is going to cost money. I have no idea when I'm going to be able to get the surgery done again. HELP ME!! I'm a horrible daughter, ain't I?
