    Tall Sleevers? 6'?

I'm a tall sleever! Im 5ft 11in. I was just sleeved on 8-21-12. I started out at 242 and I'm 216 today , and rocking a size 16 ( yay me) my goal is 175. I haven't been in onederland since 7th grade. I can't wait to feel sexy and become more healthy. Oh and I'm apple shaped, I hope my shape evens out more once I start losing good!
  7. I'm a week out Tommmrow, I left the hospital on full liquids, my nuts said to focus on hydration first and then protein. I'm tolerating everything just fine, I'm down 12lbs! If I were you, I'd just take it slow and worry about staying hydrated with water rather then getting your protein in at this point.

    Smoking After Surgery

I'm was sleeved on the 21st also and I too started back smoking, as a matter of fact I never quit, I hate that I have this awful addiction. I know better and yes smoking does effect our bodies ability to heal, it also increases the risk of pulmonary embolism.
  9. Everything is going well, the only issues I'm having is increased bp and blood sugars, I think it all related to stress though. I don't remember a thing about surgery. I woke up with a cather in and a jp drain. I have a pca for pain and zofran for nausea, to my suprise I've only been mildly nauseated and no vomitting! Don't have any gas pains yet! My Incision were closed with glue, therefore, I can take a shower right away. So far so good, will keep you all posted.
  10. Schedule for 3 weeks for medical leave of absence. Now everybody is asking me what's going on? Finally the pressure got to much to bare, so I confessed "I'm having WLS" to my surprise everyone was very supportive, there even throwing me last meal carry in
  11. I haven't been there a year, so I don't qualify for fmla, so I will be off on a non fmla medical leave
  12. We self schedule six weeks in advance, everyone is able to see everyone schedule, if someone is off for lets say maternity leave it will read Jane doe off 8/2-9/20. The reason everyone was questioning why I was off for medical leave because I haven't been sick or mentioned to anyone I was having surgery. The questioning was more out of concern. My company did not break any laws because they did not disclose why I would be off work for the next couple of weeks. As a matter of fact, HR doesn't even know I'm having wls, I told them I needed to be off for an upper Gi surgery.
  13. Hmmm, i know it isn't legal for them to tell what I'm going to be off for
  14. Yeah baby! Mine is aug 21st and I'm sooooi ready, my pre op diet starts 7 days before. Good luck to all the Aug sleevers.
  15. When I started the required 6 monthg weight loss program my bmi was 35, when they submitted my letter to the insurance company it was 33.8 and I still got approved. I also have htn and dm. good luck to you!
  16. I have a surgery date, August 21st. I'm clapping my hands and stomping my feet! I'm so excited.
  17. Thanks, congrats to you too!
  18. Wow MamaT, 43 lbs is great! When were you sleeved? How long were you off work? Hopefully I'll get a surgery date towards the end of July.
  19. Hi nurses, RN 34yr old. I work on a telemetry unit. I meet with the surgeon on Friday for my sleeve date. Excited and nervous at the same time

    Diabetic

Most MDs won't even do the surgery unless your a1c is 8 or less. The higher your a1c is the more likely you are to experience slow healing.

    Aflac

Has anyone used Aflac shot-term disability while off work for vsg? Wondering if it even covers time off for elective surgery.
  22. Will gastric sleeve really put diabetes in remission ? I'm a RN and I taken care of several post gastric bypass patient who have been able to come off all their diabetic medication within a few months of having surgery. I'm hoping I get the same results with the vsg. My Dr. seems to think that the bypass is gold-standard if I want my diabetes to go into remission. Any diabetic out there who had the sleeve, what's been your experience?
