I'm a tall sleever! Im 5ft 11in. I was just sleeved on 8-21-12. I started out at 242 and I'm 216 today , and rocking a size 16 ( yay me) my goal is 175. I haven't been in onederland since 7th grade. I can't wait to feel sexy and become more healthy. Oh and I'm apple shaped, I hope my shape evens out more once I start losing good!

I'm a week out Tommmrow, I left the hospital on full liquids, my nuts said to focus on hydration first and then Protein. I'm tolerating everything just fine, I'm down 12lbs! If I were you, I'd just take it slow and worry about staying hydrated with Water rather then getting your protein in at this point.

Could someone please give me the facts on smoking after surgery ...does it just reduce ur recover time....I'm curious ...cause I freaking picked up one today ...my surgery was 8-21-12I'm was sleeved on the 21st also and I too started back smoking, as a matter of fact I never quit, I hate that I have this awful addiction. I know better and yes smoking does effect our bodies ability to heal, it also increases the risk of pulmonary embolism.

Everything is going well, the only issues I'm having is increased bp and blood sugars, I think it all related to stress though. I don't remember a thing about surgery. I woke up with a cather in and a jp drain. I have a pca for pain and zofran for nausea, to my suprise I've only been mildly nauseated and no vomitting! Don't have any gas pains yet! My Incision were closed with glue, therefore, I can take a shower right away. So far so good, will keep you all posted.

So you must not be using FMLA if you didn't go through HR.
I haven't been there a year, so I don't qualify for fmla, so I will be off on a non fmla medical leave
-
We self schedule six weeks in advance, everyone is able to see everyone schedule, if someone is off for lets say maternity leave it will read Jane doe off 8/2-9/20. The reason everyone was questioning why I was off for medical leave because I haven't been sick or mentioned to anyone I was having surgery. The questioning was more out of concern. My company did not break any laws because they did not disclose why I would be off work for the next couple of weeks. As a matter of fact, HR doesn't even know I'm having wls, I told them I needed to be off for an upper Gi surgery.
-
Hmmm, i know it isn't legal for them to tell what I'm going to be off for

Schedule for 3 weeks for medical leave of absence. Now everybody is asking me what's going on? Finally the pressure got to much to bare, so I confessed "I'm having WLS" to my surprise everyone was very supportive, there even throwing me last meal carry in

Hallo!!!!My surgery was done on June 23... INT Hospital by Dr. Ponce de Leon....
Surgery when well' date=' when i woke up i was in a lot of pain and sill out. When they took me to the recovery room after 2 hrs... This wear pain on by back was killing me the only thing that it was in my mine is walk, walk, and walk, I started walking 21/2 hrs after my surgery because of this intense pain in my back (right right where you tight your bra TMI) even the nurse were telling me is gas once you start walking it will go away... so that's what i did.... i wen into surgery at 8am by 11am i was walking, i recall the nurses telling are you ok are sure you feel good... i just wanted for this pain to go away... the only thing that it was relieving the pain was walking and having by back massage.... by 2pm Dr. Ponce comes in and he ask me how you feel explain to him that i was ok beside the pain on my back... I even told him this gases are killing me, he said is it your shoulders, i said no is my back... and i pointed out... he said ohhh! that's not gas really!!! so i ask ok so what it is it... he said you have a muscle spasm... he goes don't worried i will take care of... when out of my room spoke to nurse 10 min latter here she comes with this all meds.... right into my IV 5min later pain gone.... no more back pain... after that i was in haven... i was able to walk every 1/2... for the 2 days i was in hospital i did good the only thing the bug me at the end was the drain... very uncomfortable..... I passed the leak test, remove my drain... and stared with the liquids... ice chips and juice... that was good. Today I am 10 days... feel very good, the only thing that still bugs me is one of my incision, it has not close yet but is not infected i try to keep it clean and all the time, what i have notice is that since i got home i have check bs and before surgery fasting i couldn't have never get done 220 or 230 fasting or 190 before bed and NOW fasting the highest i had it has been 111 and before bed 83 and i am not taking any meds.... thank god... i am able to keep all my liquids, my Protein and my vitamins... when i stared my Journey i was 247 as of today my scale says 229.6 (omg).... I'm still working on my head hunger specially when i smell the food or i see other people eating, other than that I am good.....[/quote']
Congrats on having your surgery! If you don't mine me asking what was your A1c before surgery?

I am Type II diabetic and pre-surgery I was taking 22 units of Humalog with every meal + 45 units of Lantus every evening and also Byetta injections 2 x a day also 500 mg metformin and glyburide prior to surgery. Since surgery I have had a new A1C and it was 8.8 in Jan - surgery Apr 24th my new A1C was 5.8. I am now considered "pre-diabetic".Absolutely amazing. I healed great and have only taken one dose of insulin since surgery and that one was when I was in the hospital the day after surgery.
I have lost 45 pounds with pre-op and since surgery and couldn't be happier or feeling better. Hope this answer helps.
Debbie
Most MDs won't even do the surgery unless your a1c is 8 or less. The higher your a1c is the more likely you are to experience slow healing.

Has anyone used Aflac shot-term disability while off work for vsg? Wondering if it even covers time off for elective surgery.
