  1. I would like to apologize to Leighx' date=' this does not usually happen on this forum. when you ask a question, people give their opinion and move on. please don't be put off by all of this "noise"; keep reading, asking questions and an you will be fine.

I wish you the best on your decision ........[/quote']

Thank you so much. I appreciate it very much!

  2. To the original poster - Pleasw don't worry about explaining yourself to the psychologist. I think you have a perfectly good explanation for your change of mind. Also you might mention that the shorter recovery period for the band is desirable. Good luck with everything and keep us updated!

Thank you for the advice! :)

  3. Hey everyone! I'm Leigh Ann and am new around here. I originally chose to do the gastric sleeve surgery but have since changed my mind. I am really nervous that my insurance won't allow me to change to the band. They are telling me I need a second psychological and nutritional evaluation. They are going to try and pry my brain to see why I changed my mind. What do I say? How do I tell them that I like that the lap band isnt permanent and less drastic? I understand that all of the surgeries are a big deal but the lapband in my mind is just a bit less threatening and risky. I am so nervous and on the fence about everything. I dont know what to say or do once I get back to the psychiatrist (that I have to pay out of pocket for again btw). Any suggestions? Help!

  4. Did anyone else feel like maybe this won't be successful? I mean like you couldn't follow through? Did you feel that maybe you mentally couldn't handle it because of your past habits? I'm very scared that I will be miserable after surgery or not gain the will power. I don't know what to do or think anymore and could really use some advice. Thank you.

  5. Thank you. I am a teacher wondering some ways to spend the 6-7 weeks after surgery.

Sounds like a plan. :) To Target I go!

I like colored flag stickies to for calling attention to certain pages in books/ binders- that could be color coded too.

Ooh there could be a section at the very back that includes updated before/after pics. Wait wait! The cover could be that!! A split shot. I don't know but you def. give me ideas. :P

Sounds perfect! Good luck with everything! :)

  6. So ladies and gentlemen, I have thought of a pretty good idea. I went to the store (Target) but also you can go to the grocery store or Walmart. I bought:

    a binder

    page protectors

    dividers

    highlighters

    colored pens

    one folder

I sat for two hours on my computer and looked up recipes for all different stages of our post-op diet. I separated all the different diet recipes that I liked. And also separated them into Breakfast, lunch, dinner, Desserts, and drinks. This makes it easier for quick reference to make meals. Also it is easier to plan a week's worth of meals. And also for food shopping!

I put all my important paperwork gathered so far from all my doctors and specialists regarding the surgery into a folder. Lists of food groups and nutritional information from my nutritionists, I put in page protecters and put them in the front of the binder for easy reference. I also put loose leaf paper in the back to write things down if necessary. I plan to make a to-do list before and after surgery and a to-read list as well for good books to read regarding our surgery.

Everything is in one place, clean, and organized just the way I like it. Hope this helps all of you busy bees!

  9. thank you so much. I bought the one with the starfish and it wasnt really what I was wanting. I just purchased the one you first referred first. It is cheaper to download them to a kindle app on my phone. faster too.

What about the starfish one did you not like? I want to buy the best ones out there and if that's not what I am looking for, I will remove it from my list.

  10. Well' date=' in the beginning you'll be on mostly liquids. Then mushies. So, as you progress from Protein drinks, which can be cold, you can move to yogurt and cottage cheese (try cottage cheese with salsa!), eventually other cheeses and cold cuts like ham or turkey slices. There's instant pudding mixes and Jello. If you want hot Soups or drinks, you can just use the hottest tap Water available. tuna salad, which is cold, was one of the first soft foods I wanted. Maybe purchase some ready-made egg salad. Special K crackers. Peanut Butter. Almonds, sunflower seeds. Protein Bars. Purchase a fast food cheeseburger with nothing on it, then toss the bun. Purchase Panera's Tomato Soup (yum), good hot or cold.

Surely you can have a little refrigerator?

Going through this list of stuff I eat/ate, I realize the only thing I need heat for is to reheat my Wendy's chili!

Oh, get yourself a little mini-blender. I have the TriBest, others like the Magic Bullet, and there are a couple of other brands.

You can do this, just give it some thought.[/quote']

Wow thank you for all the great ideas!! I will be sure to try some of these! :)

  11. Be aware' date=' as you are, that complications can occur. But also be confident in your surgeon. If you are not, find another one. My surgeon took my hands, looked me in the eye, and assured me I would have no regrets, and that any risks were greatly mitigated by my putting myself in his expert care. I was sold.

Was I scared on the way to the operating room? Yes, I was, a little. I cried when my husband and son kissed me as they wheeled me away. Woke up one minute later, and have not had one regret since.

What you're experiencing is normal. Work through it.

    Best of luck![/quote']

Thank you. I appreciate the advice. My surgeon is ranked one of the top surgeons in the country. I have alot of confidence in him. It's my own silly worries. I know it's normal but some of those stories were such nightmares!

  12. I also did the same thing pre-surgery.. Read all the stories about the leaks' date=' PE's, clots etc. I scared myself silly. In the end, I just kept telling myself that the odds are low for complications. I made sure I followed Drs pre op instructions and am now following the post op instructions.

Don't let the bad stuff freak you out, there are plenty more good stories[/quote']

Thank you, I appreciate the kind words!

  13. Leighx' date='

Of course you know there can be complications with any surgery. If you look for it, you'll find people that have gone through horror stories. I've had many procedures in my life that haven't "worked." I had In-vitro and 4 miscarriages (my friends all got pregnant the first time), I had a bladder sling 1 week before my sister (her's worked perfectly, mine did not), I have periods from hell that never stop and so got and IUD that stops "most" peoples' periods (guess what? mine did not) - don't even ask about my bunion surgery! LOL. This is NOT pity-me parade, just stick with me here. So when I went to have my surgery, I was so scared (certain really) that I would be that ONE PERCENT of people with complications. I just knew it wouldn't work for me. When I woke with gas pains (because you will have these and nauseous - which you MAY be), I figured this was it and I'd made the biggest mistake of my life....

Here's where the story gets good, I got home and within a couple of days I had ankle bones!! YES - I said ANKEL BONES. I was so excited to have the edema go down in my legs and feet. And I could WALK, and I STOPPED hurting! My feet, my legs, my knees, my back. Within a couple of weeks I was already happier and healthier than I'd been in a very long time. I'm now more than 3 months post op and I RUNNING. I started the Couch to 5K program, I joined a gym and I can do things my body has refused to let me do before. I don't need daily naps, I'm happier to be around. I can go into stores and by a LARGE shirt and know it will fit when I get it home without trying it on. I could go on and on, but people here have already done this - find the good!

If you still want this and need this, then please spend some time searching success stories and find the reasons to have this surgery, not the reasons to not have it. IMO you'll be much calmer about the whole thing! :-D Best of luck to you while you make this decision!![/quote']

Thank you. I appreciate all the advice. And congratulations to you in complication free surgery! :)

  14. First thing to do is stop and take a deep breath and try to relax some.

The odds of a leak is something like less than 2% I do believe. Figure all of the people having sleeves done in the world and that's next to nothing. When you have your surgery' date=' your Doctor will most likely be stapling, clamping, and gluing your stomach to ensure it's closed properly. The majority of Doctors will also have you tested for leaks before they start you on any liquids. They've been performing this procedure for well over 50 yrs with success so honestly, you have nothing to worry about.

Stop reading all the negative things and start reading the good stuff!! :)[/quote']

Thank you Nate. That made me feel better. It's just a lot scarier then I realized.

  15. Low sugar Protein bars and Protein drinks on hand would help you to resist temptation. I would not rely solely on them' date=' but get take out salads with chicken, or .....can you have a mini fridge? you could keep low fat cheese and meat type Snacks, OH...those little mini cans of tuna!! no refrigeration required. A minifrige would help you out a lot! Just a few ideas.[/quote']

Thank you for the good ideas!
