  1. Thanks everyone - I guess maybe I am still eating to quickly. I'll check it out at diner tonight and see if smaller bites and slower eating helps. My guess it probably will. LOL

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

You might try taking the Prilosec in the morning and one at night about an hour before you go to bed. It helped me. I haven't had gerd since surgery.

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

OMG, yes my teeth are constantly fuzzy...grrr. I have been chewing gum and bringing a toothbrush to work cause it's kinda gross! LOL
  6. I also had my surgery on 9/24 and went back to work on Tuesday Oct. 2nd but could have went back on the 1st. I'm not sure this is typical but I really felt good after my surgery. I had my surgery Monday afternoon around 2pm and went home on Wednesday about 2:00pm. I followed all the instructions of walking, sipping, etc so that helped. I've had a c-section in the past and this was nothing in comparison. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

I would suggest taking it as the Dr. recommends not what the box tells you. The over the counter versions have less medicine in them than the perscription strength so she is probably brining you up to that. I take 2 perscription strength a day and experience no heartburn or gerd after surgery...I had it bad before surgery! Good luck and I hope you feel better because I know that it really stinks to be hurting like that.

    Post Op Menu

Every dr. is different. My dr. only allowed protein drinks and I had to keep my calories between 700-900. So ask him and then follow it as closely as you can for the best results and for the least complications. Good luck - you will do great.

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

I'm 8 days out and 21 lbs down as of yesterday. No regrets so far but I am really ready for something more substantial than creamed soups. I did have strained split pea soup yesterday made with milk and it was awesome. Plus it has a ton of protein. That really satisfied me so I'm going to have it for diner again tonight. Only other complaint is the taste of the vitamins - ug - and if I don't have enough in my stomach when I take them, that makes me nauseas. Doc said I can wait until I finish the lovenox shots..so I will Today is my first day back at work too...so far so good. Was a little light headed this morning. Not sure if it was from lack of calories or anxiety but either way, I feel fine now so I'll try not to obsess about it.

    Pulmonary Embolism?

Wow, this is a little scary. I didn't realize that a clot could start so many weeks afterwards. I didn't do much research on this issue beforehand. I'm doing my Lovonox shots daily - i have 5 left - but I was thinking that once those are finished, I was in the clear. Hmmmmm, I'll have to keep a close eye on this. Thanks for the informaiton everyone.
  12. First day back at work - working until 3. A little shaky but I'm not sure if it's nerves or lack of protein....maybe a little of both.

  14. 5 days out and I'm actuall hungry. Can't wait to be off liquids.

  15. Hi Jess - glad to hear it all went well! Mine went great too. I'm having minimal pain, no gas pains, no more nausea and just walking walking walking. I'm drinking ok but the Jello was too sweet for me so I've been sticking with broth for now. I'm just going to relax tonight too Talk to you soon.
  16. You are going to do great! i was sleeved yesterday and here I sit in my hospital room, drinking tea and relaxing. go into with a positive attitude and you will do great! Good luck and hugs and prayers out to you!
  17. hello everyone. I made it through with flying colors. Those of you that reminded me to keep positive and go into it with a good attitude seriously made all the difference. My surgery was delyed a few hours because of issues with the surgeries before me, So I finally had my surgery about 2:00 then to recovery for a couple of hours. i seriously had a great experience - as great as this type of thing can go. Not sure why but I didn't need a cathiter (sp?) nor did I have a drain. i was up a walking last night, but had a little nausea but they took care of that. This morning I passed my leak test and had my first post 'meals'. Mostly broths because the Jello is just too sweet. I was able to drink apple juice. I'm not in that much pain although I did press the morophine button a few times over night. I'm off all wires and IVs and they gave me a dose of Loratab a little while ago to take the edge off the feeling that I did 1000 situps . I'm doing my laps around the floor and using my breathing machine as directed. They were going to send me home today (although i'm glad they didn't) but they can't until I pass gas - but my bladder is working just fine. TMI? sorry. I hope everyone is doing well today and I Iook forward to the next chapter of this journey. Thanks again to all the well wishers, i really appreciate it - You're the best!!
  18. Ooops, thank you for the luck....i can use is. Nerves kicking in a little.

  20. Thank you so much. Congratulations to you!!

    Slim Fast For Protein Drinks?

I was testing this out during my preop diet - adding the unflavored protein to my chicken broth. I tried the Fusion Unflavored but I also have Isopure Unflavored on order. I added the packet of protein powder to about 1/4 cup of water and used a fork to kind of wisk it until the clumps were gone. Then I added it to my soup. It didn't clump, thicken or change the flavor at all. I anticipate that I will do the same when I add it to mashed potatoes. I did read that you can not add it directly to very hot food or that will curdle it a bit and make it lumpy, etc.

    Home From Surgery

Hi there - my surgery is Monday also. Good luck to you!! I feel the same...scared and excited but I know we will do great.
  24. I'm nervous too but we are going to do great. I go in on Monday. I talked to someone today that was sleeved 17 days ago. Not only did she look great but she felt great too. While she had many of the same fears, she went into it with a positive attitude about the operation and the recovery and that made all the difference. Good luck and I will see you soon on the losers bench.
