brenty reacted to Kekeboo in Protein Powder Suggestions
i bought what my doctor sells at his office only because he has banana flavor and i mix it with the chocolate......taste like a chocolate covered banana!!!! going back for the orange cream flavor.
i was also told to have 2 shakes a light meal, but I was also told to have a small healthy snack in between. You may want to check into that, you need to keep your energy up.

I like Isopure, and hubby loves it too and is not banded. Fav flavor is the dutch chocolate, we add Kale/Ginger/Celery in it as well for additional Fiber etc along with ice cubes to make it icy.

Happy July, too!
I absolutely get creative with my shakes, but they taste great as-is. My wife and I fell in love with Herbalife Formula 1 (my favourite -- smooth) and Protein Drink Mix (my wife's -- thick and creamy).
All of the flavours are great (latté and Cookies 'n' cream being our favourites), but we mostly get vanilla. It's easier to use that as a base and then add whatever we happen to be in the mood for (coffee, fruit, etc.) without having to stock all the individual flavours. And they double as 'protein pops'!
Disclosure: I am an Herbalife distributor. Can't beat wholesale!

It is super important that we all find something that works for us as individuals. Personally, I didn't eat breakfast at all for years. Very unhealthy, I know; but it just made me sick when I did. Having a shake every morning has been a game-changer for me, since I can now get fuel right away to start my day.

brenty reacted to Cazzy in Weighing Out Food?
I must admit i dont like weighing out food so i dont, Protein i do around the size of a pack of cards, green veg i tend to just put on the plate 2 tablespoonfuils normally, i am not so precise that i have to use the scales but am pretty clear look wise as to what i can and cant eat
We have to devise methods of being banded that will last us , hopefully all our lives, so if u weigh out things intially get used to and learn what sizes u can and cant eat then just carry opn that judgement without the scales once u get expert at it, that way u can go out for meals anywhere and know exactly how much to eat

This is awesome! Doing it as a team makes it so much easier. My wife and I have both done much better since we teamed up for diet and exercise. We're in love with Herbalife shakes. Isopure looks like it has more Protein, but also higher calories.
That's a bit out of the way for us (in SFV), but it is good to know! We moved in down the street from Follow Your Heart (by chance!) and we have fallen in love with them.

It's just a little weird, because I still sometimes get that guilty cheating-on-my-diet feeling when I have one!

I was making our Protein and meal shakes at night to save time in the mornings, and it turns out that they thicken nicely in the refrigerator overnight. It's like McDonald's, except healthy!

i add milk or Water to my Protein and put in freezer until it gets to a consistency i like and then drink it up. YUM. def saved me during all my 4 weeks liquid pre/post op diets (and putting in ice cube trays helps also).

According to research, and i think Alex mentioned this, your body can only metabolise around 25 to 30 grms of Protein at any time so be careful not to overload your system, some people will be ok having an intake of protein that big, but i had type 2 diabetes and if u eat too much protein it metabolises into glucogen and will be stored as as fat , .. it sounds good to experiement and make something that u can tolerate but be aware that amount in one go might not be the greatest method to get your daily intake in

brenty reacted to Kflower84 in Fruit???
When I was on mushies I mashed a banana and it was the most disgusting think to look at. I try to eat it but I got nauseous.
I've tried mangos and strawberries in smoothies.
Now I am able to eat bananas and watermelon that I've tried so far but I choose to stay away from fruit because of the high sugar and carb content.

My wife and I tend to share appetizers and Entrees, and that helps in a few ways: smaller portions for each of us, smaller bites (save some for me!), and more variety. Depending on where you go, portions are often way too big eating out. If you use the buddy system, it can really help!

i am scared to eat too (am on mushies/real soft also)
small bites and go slow (alot of other excellent posters on here say that also.
but we did this so we can eat but eat less.

brenty reacted to Sojourner in Mashed Potatoes
For many of us, eating carbs, especially white ones, leads to craving more carbs. Craving more carbs leads to possibly eating unhealthy sized portions, which then may lead to less weight loss...
For post op, I was given detailed instructions about which foods I could have, and which I needed to avoid. Mashed potatoes, even yams, were on the "avoid list".
Post op is a time for healing, and we still need to focus on having adequate Protein as a priority. For carbs during the mushies stage, I was advised to have choices like (all vegetables were well cooked and everything was pureed) cauliflower, spinach, carrots, strawberries, blueberries, and my all time favorite pureed cantaloupe.
Best wishes...

brenty reacted to Missy05.29.12 in Chick Fil A Saved The Day!!!
I was traveling today and it ended up taking longer than expected so I was not prepared and I had no time to stop to sit and eat.
I panicked...until I remembered that Chick-Fil-A now serves grilled chicken nuggets on the kids menu. I ordered 6 grilled chicken nuggets, fruit, and an unsweetened tea (for later) and it was awesome!!! The chicken probably had more salt than I would have used if i had cooked it at home, but it was still a much better choice than some other options.
Chicken = 110 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, & 20 grams of Protein
Fruit = 65 calories & 0 fat
Talking about saving the day! I could have had a major cheat situation but I avoided it!!!
Next time I will be more prepared, but this low fat, low calorie option did the trick today :-)

i agree... and, you know?? i think this is the only way that was left for me to go...my weight loss is slower but steady and im really happy with that. I dont think i would have been disciplined enough to stick with small portions and eating slowly if it hadnt been for the band. This band has helped me through days when i lacked the motivation of positive mind set to keep going . I couldnt be eating huge amounts now even if i wanted to. Ive just had my second fill.. it was only 1 cc. that was over a week ago. im still feeling the tenderness in my pouch. the dr made an appointment for me for two months time. i dont think i will get any more fills .... if im continuing to lose i dont see that its necessary. I have to wait so long after a fill before i settle down again that im inclined to give the next fill a miss. i guess it will depend on how my weight loss goes in the next two months. we will see. There is no way that i could have been consistent, before the band, like im being made to be now. -

When I went back to work full time in January it turned out I would have a very early lunch hour so I have a Protein Shake every day either for Breakfast or Lunch. The meal are too close together for me to want real food for both but I also need my Protein to keep me going until dinner time. I asked my doc & he was fine with it as long as I wasn't drinking them because I COULDN'T eat solids.

At some point pre op, before you began your liquid diet, you should have been given a number of Protein grams to target as necessary to have every day. If you don't know what that number is, you should to find out.
Once we begin to eat solid foods again, we are supposed to rely on our diet to provide the needed protein, but there will be days when that's not doable. That's the reason our protein choices need to be lean and high quality.
The Protein Shake can be used to supplement your protein intake on the days you don't reach your target of protein grams. You will also likely need to return to shakes and a liquid diet for at least a day following a fill.
