    Balanced Eating: Protein? Veges? Carbs?

Thank you so much for asking about exercise! I am just now beginning to do a little more...I am still pretty sore...my doc had to take care of a hernia too when doing my lapband...but today, we (my children and I) went to the park and playedddddd! It was really fun and tons of exercise! But, since I am not quite healed yet, my doctor doesn't want me to begin an exercise regimen until my first post-op appointment...that will be next week--Thursday. I am hoping to do more exercise after that! :-)
  6. OK. So, I am a newbie to the Bandy Family (one week post-op)...but, I am already forming a thinking and eating mindset. Here's a little background about my last six months.... Back in May of 2012, I weighed 224lbs. and was hospitalized for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I was put on medicine for both and sent home. I began eating a whole different way. I began eating lots of FRESH veges, mainly poultry and fish, the fats I ate were "good" fats, and I lowered the portion size of my food. Between May of 2012 and October of 2012 I lost 40lbs. I am thinking that was a REALLY good way of life. During the months of "eating for life" (as I call it), I was finally approved for lapband surgery. Of course I had to do the two week pre-op diet which meant that I was on a low carb diet. Now, in the last five months, I had not lost weight with low carb of any sorts. My weight loss during my pre-op diet was only around 10 pounds. Even though I did loose the 10 lbs during the two weeks, I had also lost a major portion of my weight during my new "balanced" eating for life months before too. So, here I am with the lapband all set in place. My doctor is really driving home the idea for a low carb diet in order to help me keep losing weight. However, I am not all that geared up with strictly adhering to a total low carb diet. In fact, during the two week low carb pre-op diet, I did not feel as full of energy or satisfied as I did when I was eating balanced (and still losing weight too). So, my question is that even though so many folks push for the low carb idea of the lapband, would it be just as good to eat a low calorie balance diet (without having to scrimp so much on the carbs) in order to keep losing weight? BTW, I am keeping my portion sizes down to between 1/4 and 1/2 a cup per meal.
  7. Hey, Ya'll! My name is Dana Adams, and I am getting banded this Thursday. Tonight, I am struggling with so many emotions...I am EXCITED, happy, thrilled, nervous, scared, weepy, anxious,...you name it...I am! Oh! Forgot hungry!!! Heeee! No...really, I am not hungry. My doctor does not do the two week liquid diet that I have seen most folks do. Instead, I have been doing a low carb diet for the last two weeks. I have done fairly well...not lost a ton of weight or anything...but a little. Actually, I have been working on this weight loss thing for quite sometime. In the last six months, I have lost 42 lbs. So, I am on my way. I still have quite a bit to go, but I will make it! I know so, because God does not me to destroy the temple He has given me! I am a praying woman, and I know that there are tons of prayer warriors on here...because God has brought me HERE! So, I ask you to keep me in prayer this Thursday...throughout the day, please. I thank you all so much! In His mercy and grace, Dana Adams www.aworldwithoutweight.blogspot.com
  8. I am doing really well! I am eating a little better...and the gas is seeming to get a little better. Still, I have tons of gas when I eat or drink. But, it isn't anything too bad. I am down a few pounds...and keeping my head held high! :-) God has been so good to me! Thank you all for checking in on me! Ya'll are THE best!

    First Post-Op Thread

Ahhhh!!!! So glad you are doing well!!!!! Me~~~Well, I am doing really well...except for all the gas!!! I tell you the truth! If I could bottle all that stuff coming out of me~~~I WOULD NEVER NEED TO VISIT A GAS STATION AGAIN!!!! Heeeeeee!!!!!! I feel like a MAN! So liberating! LOL! Really~~I am so glad you are doing well! Hope you have a GREAT transfer to home!!! Welcome to the Bandy Family!!!!
  10. Well, I am finally home! Whew! I wasn't able to update in the hospital for two reasons...number one the hospital internet was not connecting, and number two I did not feel like it! Buttttt...... I am home now! Ok...Well, the surgery itself was a breeze. I arrived at the day surgery center at 6:30am on Thursday morning. I went right on into the surgical area and they began prepping me for surgery. They gave me a gown and began my IV. Then, my doctor talked with me a moment and the anesthesiology doctor came in to talk with me. Then the anesthesia nurse came in and began to give me some sleepy meds. Actually, I believe the sleepy med was a more relaxing med than anything else. Then, I was rolled into the Operating Room. I was talking to the surgical nurse about adoption and BAM! I didn't remember anything else until I woke up. My throat was scratchy and tickled quite a bit. I chopped on a little ice and was then rolled into my regular room. Within literally seconds my husband and my mom were with me. I did not hurt, although I did feel a lot of pressure from gas under my breasts. I immediately felt nauseated. I was given a nausea med called Zoftin? I am not sure that is exactly how it is spelled...but it didn't do anything to help me. And the gas was almost unbearable. They gave me pain meds although I was not really in big pain...and have not been...just a little sore. However, I did spend the night in the hospital due to me living so far away...at an hour and a half from my doctor. I was allow to come home this morning and left the hospital by 10:30am. I was stillllll so nauseous. However, I took some of my pain meds and noticed that the pain meds took away my nausea! So, since I have been home I have taking my pain meds at THE right time without fail...and I notice that when it is about time for my meds to run out, I begin to feel sick again...and my gas pains seem to return. My gas is doing MUCH better tonight. I have belched and expelled gas A LOT! Boy! I am sooooo glad! I am beginning to feel MUCH better. As far as eating...well...drinking, I haven't had any problems except for the fact that chicken broth will NEVER enter my house again! Just something about that broth made me even sicker! So, I was able to sip just a few drops of beef broth...not much better..but little. Since I have been home, my husband brought me some ice pops and some juice. I noticed that I cannot eat anything that is salty or too sweet...Huh! Anyway, those ice pops and that juice is keeping me going for now. I am going to attempt some coffee in the morning....doc said it was cheating a little, but if I could tolerated it...then go for it! Well, that is all I have for now...I am going to go and get some more medicine! Night all! And thank you guys for praying for me!

    Newby

Well..I gotta tell you, I was banded on this past Thursday...and I was NOT able to drink that stupid chicken broth they gave in the hospital! Actually, I was not able to eat anything except for sipping on TEA..and warm tea at that. Only a little water,...but even that began making me feel sick. I have found now that I can tolerate a Popsicle!!!! So, my hubby went out and got me two whole bags of them all flavors! My doctor wanted me on a clear liquid diet for a few days, but then, he saw that I needed more...so, in with those frozen treats I came! I am home now and doing much better. ACtually, it was all the gas in my stomach that was making me feel sick..so, when I tried to put anything in my body...it rejected it! I also tried Ocean spray mix juice. I could handle that too! I just can't eat anything way too sweet or too salty. I hope this helps! This morning, I had about a fourth of a cup of coffee with powder cream too. It went down well. Praying for you!
