  1. Has anyone had a colonoscopy post vsg? I turned 50 just before my surgery back in late July 2013. I just went in for my annual physical and the doctor reminded me that I should have a colonoscopy. So, if you have had your colonoscopy, is there anything I should tell the doctor about my vsg? Does it matter? Thanks in advance.

  2. Hello can anyone who has a supervised diet tell me how long from beginning to end that it took them...I had a friend go through Dr Curry and she started in July and had surgery end of Nov....anyone know about dr Watkins

Dr Watkins did my surgery on July 31, 2013. My insurance required 3 months of a supervised diet. Pre-surgery diet was a 2 week liquid diet. Total calories each day was 800 calories. During this time, you could have a salad. However, the calories from this had to be included in your daily calorie total. Post surgery diet was 1 month of all Liquid Protein, 1 month of puréed food, and 1 month of soft food. The 4th month post surgery you finally get to have "real" food. Dr. Watkins fixed my hiatal hernia so I don't need to take any antacids. The all liquid diet tough but so worth it. Good luck in your journey.

  3. Thanks a lot for the info I have set up an appt with dr curry office and it will be in 15 days and have an appt with Dr Watkins office in Feb I thought it would be better to space them out. Yes I have so many questions to ask him

If you know your insurance company requires a supervised diet you probably could start that diet before your consults. I knew my plan had this requirement so I was able to schedule my initial consult with my family doctor before I met with Dr Watkins. It just helped to speed up the process.

  4. I have been going back and forth on which doctor to go with...one thing I have noticed is that Dr Curry insurance lady knows her stuff and the people that I knew that went to him had to problem getting approved...but I know someone who went to Dr Watkins and said he is really nice person but that the people who did his insurance wasn't as up to date on how long to do the supervised diet because she found out from people at our job that she didn't have to do a 6 month supv diet.......I don't know what to do...Help.....

I chose Dr Watkins over Dr Curry. I went to the presentations and also had an initial consult with both of them. In my opinion, there is no comparison between the two. I never felt comfortable with Dr Curry. To me, there was just something off. I don't know, it could have been what I thought was his indifference to me. Almost like I was just another patient. In my opinion, not a lot of people skills. Dr Watkins to me was just the opposite. He was very patient with me and all my questions. I felt like he would have sat with me for as long as I needed to talk with him. His pre-surgery and post-surgery diet was strict compared to what you read on this site. He wants a 2 week 800 calorie pre-op liquid diet (You can have a salad once a day). Post surgery is 1 month of liquid diet, 1 month of puréed food, and 1 month of soft food. Dr Watkins also will fix a hiatal hernia (sorry for the spelling) whereas a lot of doctors don't. I had no issues with the insurance people. It took less than 2 weeks to get my insurance approval. Everyone in Dr Watkins' office were great.

In my opinion, if you haven't met with both doctors you should. Everyone should really choose a doctor after they have met them. What works for me might not work for someone else. Also, everyone's insurance is different. Mine required 3 months of a supervised diet, your's might not. Do your research. Don't rely on what people tell you.

Good luck in your journey. It was a lot of work but so worth it. Since July 14, 2013 I have lost 75 pounds. I have gone from a 22W down to size 14 pants, XXL tops to L tops. I'm not the fastest loser, but i am not disappointed. One week post surgery I stopped taking my blood pressure medicine per my doctor's instructions. My only regret is I didn't do this sooner. Best thing I have done for myself. Good luck.

  5. Well, I positively feel like a pig when I read the calories some of you are consuming daily. I was sleeved on July 31, 2013 and I can eat about 1200-1300 calories each day. I get in between 60-80 gams of Protein each day. My nut told me not to worry about carbs, she is more interested in the protein and calories. Since my initial weigh-in at my consult, I am down 70 pounds. I am very happy with my progress. The one thing that I wish could change is this darn hair thinning. Started about 6 weeks ago. Oh we'll, take the good with the bad. My food changes daily. I get bored eating the same thing for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is usually the same, but that is more about convenience. I was worried about increasing my calories, but I don't feel sluggish. In addition to getting in my protein, I have also introduced in cooked and raw veggies and fresh fruit. Thankfully no issues with any food. I am very lucky. Good luck to everyone on their journey.

  6. Has anyone ever used this supplement post surgery? After spending the holiday weekend with family that use this supplement, I'm thinking of buying it to help with the Hair loss. I have been using Biotin since 2 weeks post surgery. I also use fish oil. My Protein and Water consumption have been on point since the very beginning. Within the past month I started using Nioxin Shampoo, etc. At this point, you can definitely see my hair thinning in the front. I'm curious about the benefits of spurlina. I understand that the "hair thing" is common and should be expected. I am hoping to minimize the amount of hair loss. Thanks to all who respond.

  7. I made this over the weekend. I used to have it all the time on Weight Watchers. I love it this time of the year.

    pumpkin Mousse

    1 15oz. Can pumpkin

    1 ¾ cup skim milk

2 1oz. boxes Sugar Free/ Fat Free Instant Vanilla pudding

    1 tsp. Pumpkin Pie spice

    2 cups Cool Whip Free

( You could add vanilla Protein powder or unflavored to boost the Protein. I did not have any)

Mix Milk' date=' Pumpkin & Spice together until smooth.

Add pudding and mix until smooth.

    Fold in the Cool Whip

Chill for a few hours , Serve. I sprinkled a little more spice on top and a small bit of cool whip.

    8 Servings

    Calories: 93

    Fat: <1gm

    Protein: 4gm

    Carbs: 18

    Fiber: 3 gm[/quote']

Do you make the pudding? Or do you empty the box directly into the pumpkin and mix? I'm confused. Thanks for your help.

  8. I am set to be sleeved on 11/25 so I have been on this site non-stop. Lately' date=' many of the posts I have been reading have been about complications from surgery. I understand that those are a very real possibility, but it's starting to make me really anxious. I need some good news to keep me balanced and put my fear in check. I have an excellent surgeon and am in fairly good health (no comorbidities except joint pain). I plan on following all preop instructions to the letter. With all that, did You have a good recovery? Somebody please tell me that this process CAN (not wii) go smoothly for me, too.[/quote']

No problems here. The first week or so sleeping in my bed was a little uncomfortable. It was more of an annoyance than anything else. Once I started walking the pain in my side went away. Like the others who have posted, I have had zero nausea and no diarrhea. I had some Constipation but once I was able to include more in my diet that went away. I do have chewable Fiber everyday to keep me regular. I am very happy that my doctor was very conservative in his post op instructions. All liquids for 1 month, and then 1 month each for purée food, mushy food, and soft food. Oh yeah, no acid reflux and no medicine. My doctor fixed my hiatal hernia. Good luck to you. Best thing I have done for myself.

  9. Yikes. Did your mom have 1 or did she do the series of 3? Ive read some people say it was t bad at all and others are like you. I've been considering them' date=' but ouch. I don't know how heavy you are but do you think the fat around the knee makes it worse? My doc said it might be better after I lost some more weight, but I've reached my insurance out of pocket and I'm sure they are expensive. How long did the relief last for your mom?[/quote']

She had the series of 3 shots each time. Each knee had the treatment 4x. She never had a bad reaction. The shots are expensive, but I guess the insurance figured they were cheaper than a knee replacement.

  10. I had it. I was given the choice of 1 shot weekly for 3 weeks or I could have 1 "mega" shot. Stupid me, I thought 1 shot would be better (I mean who wants to get multiple shots when 1 will do). Well that was a bad decision. It was one of the most painful shots I have ever had. It brought tears to my eyes. The sad thing is I found no relief from the injection. I will say that my mom had the injections in both her knees and it worked for her. In fact, she was able to put off her total knee replacements for several years.

  11. Food at 3 weeks out !?!? I'm on 4 weeks of liquid' date=' pickles would be heavenly but I would settle for anything I can chew !! One more week of this then on to 4 weeks of mushy :([/quote']

I feel your pain. I was 2 weeks pre-surgery liquids (800 cals per day). Post surgery has been 4 weeks each of all liquid, then purée, then soft foods. Another 2 weeks and I will finally be on regular food. Other than the all liquid stage, it hasn't been too bad.

  12. I made these pancakes this morning. They were really good and very easy to make. I did add a little Protein Powder just to give myself a little more Protein to start the day. My one problem when I made them was they stuck to the pan a little bit. I did use some margarine (haven't had that in weeks). Any suggestions on making these pancakes without them sticking to the pan?
