  1. No two people are identical in energy needs. We all must learn and navigate our individual energy balance. Sure we all have micro issues, however, the band does not alter the physics of the macro issue which is calories in Vs calories out... Eat too much and you won't lose or worse gain - eat too little and you'll crash your metabolism and get the same result...

I agree! I had a Hydrostatic body fat test done which let me know exactly how many calories my body uses when active and not. I know how many calories I need to eat to maintain that but I also know how many to deduct so I can continue losing Fat.

  2. I had surgery 5/21/13 - feeling great and want to start working out. I don't see my surgeon again until 7/5. My question is when is it ok to start working out and do you think using the Ab Circle Pro machine would be ok?

I would wait until you talk with your surgeon until doing any ab exercise. My still says no abs and I am a year out... of course I am a very bad listener and still do them... oops! Just start small with leg lifts and walking/ slow jogging until he gives you the all clear.

  3. Omg! How exciting?

I'm not much of a gym person! I hate walking lol if i jump in the treadmill i rather run, so i can reach my goal quicker lol so i think crossfit is what i need! A crazy quickly workout! (Not that boreness from regular gym)

This place im going to see is a crossfit only space..

Im cant wait to reach my 200lb goal! (I'm 235 as today).. I lost a almost 30lb since banded 6 weeks ago, and my skin is already getting saggy. I need to go crazy on exercise to be where i want to be!

I did work out quite a bit before I started crossfit but I took lots of classes and I ran. Currently the only class I take is Zumba which my cf family give me a hard time about but I like to shake my butt and it helps out my cardio. On Wed. I do cf then I leave there and go to zumba. I usually don't have time to even stop sweating yet! Now I have lost weight slower since I have started cf. Prior I was losing 8 to 10 a month but you can see the muscles in my legs, quads, and arms. My neck and shoulders are also starting to come out. I decided I would much rather have muscles take up space than fat or extra skin.

  4. I'm in between games so I can type a little bit. I was so scared to start crossfit. I had been working out a lot at a gym and I asked the guy that taught cf if they had a crossfit for dummies! He said it was all for dummies! I ended up trying another crossfit box in my town because the price was right and a parent at my school recommended it. I was scared to death. When you start a good coach will modify for you and usually you only do half the workout or so depending on what it is. I had my band done in late June and I was 276. My CF coach takes measurements every month and I was 230 for my January measurements. I am now 207 but as much as I have been loosing fat I know I have been gaining muscle. I did a body fat test where they submerged you in Water and I came out to be 23.9% body fat which just floored me! I was so sure it was going to be more but I have 156 lbs of lean mass (muscles, organs, bones, etc.) and only 49 lbs of fat on my body. Still quite a bit of fat but I am considered in a "average" range. If I loose 9 more pounds of fat then I will be in the "athletic" range! When I started I was doing 2 days a week for the 1st month, 3 days for the 2nd month, and now I go 5-7 days a week. Sometimes I do the workout twice a day. I am usually sore and exhausted but I am in the best shape of my life. I love stalking my coaches' page to see what my workout tomorrow will be. Youtube was my best friend when I first started because I would look up the workout then go see a video of what in the world that meant! It won't take you long to get the crossfit lingo down. If you would have told me a few months ago I would be able to do a freaking handstand I would have said you were crazy but that is just one skill I have been able to accomplish!

  7. Go you!!!! I did a triathlon a couple years ago and a 5k this year. My 1/2 will be next year! We should start a running group on here!!!

I'm all for starting a running group! I had my fastest 5k time last weekend with 31:27! My next race is a 10k then time to start training for a half!

  8. Thanks for the offer trisket, I will def keep that in mind. Also signing up for "run for your lives". Lol. I did the warrior dash a few years back and I'm excited to try doing more 5ks. Hoping to run the Disney half in 2014. Also, just wondering how close you are, I live I'm south Arlington, where are you?

I live in Crowley. I thought about signing up for Run For Your Lives but it is out of my price range! I am spending my extra money on Crossfit.

  9. Ok, you have totally inspired me! One of my goals for 2013 is a 5k. I have already planned on one in April (for obesity), the Color Run in July, and the Dirty Girl mud run in August. Lol. I work out regularly but can't run long distance for the life of me! Any tips on how to prepare? Was it as hard as you thought it would be?

Keep up the cardio at the gym. It helps build endurance! Remember your mind is going to tell you to quit before your body does. Also try and find some place you like to run. I hate the treadmill and I don't even like running around my neighborhood. My gym has 3 tracks:1 inside (15 laps = a mile), small outside (5laps=1mile), and large outside (1lap= 1.05 miles). I find I like the inside track for my 1 mile warmup runs. I try to run a mile before the cardio classes I take. I have done 3 miles on the small track once but it isn't my favorite place for a long run. My favorite place is the outside track. It wraps around my gym and the hospital nextdoor. I just love running there! Also make sure to not over do it. When I first started couch to 5k I ran almost every day and developed tendinitis in my hips. THAT SUCKED! I ended up quitting running and gaining 30lbs during that school year. (I just became generally lazy). That was the summer before my lapband. I started back up this summer and it was the best decision! I invested in some great running shoes because bad shoes can cause all kinds of hip/back problems. My new ones came from a running store where they put me on a treadmill and recoreded my step while I was running. I was turrning my ancles in so they fitted me with a show that gave more support in the inside sole. They also put me in shoes a size bigger than I wear because they say your feet swell when you run. I am in love with my new shoes! After my 6 mile run a few weeks ago I was only a little sore the next day. I weight 230 so I would say that is pretty good!!

Also www.dailymile.com is very motivating for me!! I still suck at logging my food but I log all my workouts on here. It makes me what to do better and go farther.

  10. Trisket, I noticed that we have the same dr. I'm scheduled for surgery on Friday, any advice?!

Also, are u running the color run in 2013? I'm planning to do it!

I am already signed up for The Color run!! I have a team if you want to join it :)

Good luck on your surgery tomorrow. I had a fill today and I think I am getting really close to my green zone!!! My advice would be to just relax. The first few days do suck but you will be feeling like yourself in no time!! I am 6 months in and I have NO REGRETS!

  11. This is so inspiring! I've always wanted to run a 5k and today at the gym, I noticed the treadmill had a virtual 5k feature and decided to try. Slow and steady, I made it and felt great after! Now I'm looking for a race but they all seem to be in far off warm places (wouldn't make a bad vacation) but I'm going to sign up for a 5k and start training for 10. Thanks for this post!

That is awesome! The coolest part is seeing your time go down as you keep it up! :) Best of luck finding a run! I am not a big fan of this cold weather, but I live in Texas so it will be in the 70s again before I know it (It was LAST week).
