Hey November 14th sleevers! How are you all? Happy 1 month!! ( a little late lol) I'm down 68lbs as of today- 20 pre op 48 post op! Whoohoo I'm almost out of the 300's! HW 379 SW 359 Today 311 Pictures are already a week old and 5 pounds ago lol

    Back to school!

Lunch meat roll ups are a good idea too. Obviously can't leave them out all day but if you eat them in a few hours its okay. Hummus with cucumber chips- I do that a lot as a snack.

    Dark urine post-op

Well as you already know that's one of the main signs of dehydration. You should be getting 64 ounces of water a day or more. I would definitely bring thing up to your dr if it continues even after getting more water in. It could be a kidney related issue and that's nothing to fool around about. But I still think you may be a bit dehydrated especially since your only 1 week post op. Try to get in more fluids and see how you do.

    How much are you down?

Down 65 from my all time heighest (lost 20 pre op) and down 45 since surgery on 11/14
  5. I will never be someone who just eats for fuel and not for taste. I'm a foodie inside. Always will be, can't change that. Having said that, as mentioned above healthy doesn't have to mean tasteless. You learn to adapt your food to fit tastes. I love taking an unhealthy food or recipe that I loved pre op and making it healthy post op. for example- I'm Italian so I love me some lasagna. Post op I made a lasagna-esque dish with eggplant slices instead of noodles. Was delish! There are so ways to make the same food so you don't get bored. It's all about experimenting.

Foodie at a fraction of the price

It definitly depends on the place. It's true a lot of appetizers are usually fried I've ordered things like caviche, lettuce wraps, crab cakes (pan fried, though they had breading) I had a duck salad once at a Thia place- was duck, apples, peanuts and some greens in a sweet spicy sauce. Very good. I've seen tuna carpaccio as an appetizer at a few places (cheesecake factory is one of them) that would be a good option. You have to look. It's a little bit tough but doable and I course depends on the place. A lot of the chain restaurants don't have anything good on their appetizers though. It's mostly fried and greasy.

Foodie at a fraction of the price

I've always been a foodie myself. It was always so expensive to try new restaurants and discover new cuisines because I was always hungry. I would eat a plate of delicious food at a higher price and still be hungry. And broke lol. NOW it's awesome. I can order an appetizer, save some cash, fulfill the 'foodie' in me and feel totally full! It's great! I will always be a foodie who loves to try new foods, cook and try new cuisines. I was afraid that would be something that changed after surgery because I've seen people who just didn't enjoy eating. That thought made me sad honestly. But that is still who I am now- now I just am able to REALLY enjoy the small portion of what I'm getting and not scarf it down! It's awesome

    Sushi ?

I love sushi and really wanted to try it for my birthday last week. I'm 2 months post op. I was able to have salad (I LOVE the ginger dressing so much!) ate half of it. And about 3/4 of an Alaska roll. Was soooooo good!! The rice does sit a little heavier then other foods but I was personally able to tolerate it. I thought I had eaten a lot but thought back to my pre op days where I could eat 4 rolls and realized how much I love my sleeve. And I don't feel deprived one bit

    Cake?

Also want to add that for me personally I had this surgery to live a normal life. A lot of people will say things like 'Oh don't eat that, it's not on plan' but for me this isn't a 'plan' this is my life. I'm not saying to go crazy and cram a sheet cake down your throat, but I don't want to deprive myself. If its my birthday and I want to have a tiny sliver of cake I'm going to work it into my calories for the day and do so and NOT feel guilt. If this surgery guaranteed I could never do that again I never would have done it. Part of the reason I didn't do RNY. It's a life style and a balance- for me anyway. Everyone is different. That's how I justify eating something like cake on a special occasion, just incase anyone was waiting to wag their finger at me lol.

    Cake?

This is not me telling you to go ahead and do it but I'm able to have little bits. My birthdays just passed (I'm 2 months post op) and I had a tiny piece on my birthday. No nausea or problems. Almost wish I did have a problem so I would never want to try again lol (no not really. I'm thankful for no problems!) but alas my sleeve is basically made of titanium and has handled everything I've thrown at it like a trooper. My experience is not average however so yours may vary (my disclaimer lol)

    Master Cleanse

Well there are several purposes not all are weight loss. A lot of people do it to cleanse the system or to detox your body so you can start fresh. Though I don't know the motivation behind the OP. I've known people who had no intent on weight loss do this regularly. A friend of mine was all of 130lbs and would do it to flush the bad things he had eaten out of his system.

    Master Cleanse

It's basically a juice fast done for anywhere from 3 to 10 days. You drink a mixture of lemon juice Water, cayenne pepper and grade B maple syrup and that's it. Sometimes a laxative tea or salt water solution. It's done a lot for weight loss but also to detox the body. I wouldn't do it now post op but I did it a few times years ago when I was willing to try anything to weight loss. http://calorielab.com/news/2008/07/17/master-cleanse-in-detail/

My before and in progress picture. Down 63lbs from my highest. 43 from surgery.

    Master Cleanse

I honestly wouldn't. You need to get protein in and with the master cleanse your not getting anything substantial. Also the sugar in the maple syrup may not agree with you. If you really must do it I wouldn't do it for the full week. Try it for a day and see where you are. I did it several years ago for 3 day intervals. I wouldn't do more then that. Just my opinion.

How do you not go broke?

This doesn't help the men lol. But ladies- leggings are my secret weapon. Luckily right now oversized things are actually stylish so you can get away with baggy tops a few sizes too big. Just pair an oversize top with some leggings, pair of boots and an over sweater and there's my winter wardrobe. It's gonna get harder come spring lol. Obviously not an answer for work wear but for every day where it's working out great for me lol. I def can't afford to keep replacing jeans so the legging thing is working for me lol.

Ostrim Beef and Turkey 1.5oz snack sticks or jerky!

They are very good. A friend of mine eats them and I was over there house recently and I wanted a snack type thing and found those in the pantry. The teriyaki is great and I was shocked there I 14 grams of protein. Highly recommend!

Eating out! How do you sleevers do it?

You adapt. I'm about 8 weeks out and eaten out about 4 or 5 times and I've had very good experiences. Stick with things that contain Protein and take left overs home. Or get an appetizer that is healthy or protein packed. Also don't be afraid to ask for substitutions. For example I went to Applebee's a few weeks post op and everything seemed too big or fattening. I asked for a side d grilled chicken. Nothing else and they were very accommodating. I went to ninty-nine recently and ordered grilled turkey tips. I comes with French fries and I asked for a swap of mashed potatoes and some broccoli instead. Again very accommodating. I only took a bite of the potatoes and fav the rest to my friend. I went to a nice pub restaurant and my aunt and i decide to share a few appetizers. we got an appetizer of caviche and a chicken lettuce wrap dish. Both very VSG friendly. And finally went to the dreaded Cheesecake Factory. I was most surprised with their healthy choices. There were LOTS. I wound up with chicken and mushroom lettuce wraps there also. Awesome. They also had an ahi tuna appetizer that I want to try next time. There are lots of choices out there for us you just have to look, don't be afraid to ask for something a certain way and stick with things the have protein.
