  1. VSG Friends- I am just over two weeks post-op and had a fantastic first week and lost 15 pounds. In the second week I only lost 2 pounds. I am half way through week three and I won't weigh myself because I am already feeling depressed. I have been getting anywhere from 40-60g of Protein daily, 70-100g carbs per day, and most of my Water. I am having a hard time with the protein since I am on mushies. I've worked out 4 times a week an hour at a time. What am I doing wrong? What mushy protein's did you eat? I am still listless and have no energy. Thanks for your advice!

    Stall Or Starvation?

I can have pureed tuna. I need to dilute it more as it was too thick and dense today with just light miracle whip and avocado.

    Stall Or Starvation?

Great ideas. I will call my Nutritionist on Monday! The carbs are coming from the smoothies I have been making with frozen fruit. I am finding it difficult to consume enough mushie Protein. I have ordered those "new whey liquid protein" shots and hoping that will help if I can sip on those throughout the day. Thank you everyone!

I'd like to know the same. I cannot tolerate anything sweet. Mushie stage is so difficult!

How Long Until You Felt Normal Again

I went to back a week after surgery and did fine. I actually welcomed the distraction since I was sick of being in the house for a week straight. I like my routine. It is difficult to make myself exercise right now since my energy is so low, but I haven't left early once. We are stronger than we think!

New Here, Sleeved In Co July 17

I was sleeved 2 days after you. Are you eating mushies? What does your diet consist of? Also, I lost 17 pounds in the first week and now nothing. Did you stall at all? Sounds like you are doing so well, congrats!
  7. I had the same feeling the first few days after surgery. It went away, I really think it was swelling. You will be fine!

    Water Aerobics

I am going to my first aquafit class tonight. I am almost 2 weeks post op and took a cardio/weight/step class last night that absolutely kicked my behind! I am hoping the class tonight is a little less pain and little more fun! Happy loosing ladies!

    Feeling Regretful!

Hi Nicky- I had my surgery one week before you and yes, yes, yes, that first 3 days was awful! I was in pain, couldn't sleep, every swallow felt like a golfball in my stomach it was really a miserable weekend. Sunday was my turning point, I finally felt a little more human was able to take a shower. Last week I recoop'd at home and made sure to walk each day. It does get easier! Hang in there and happy recovery!

    Ive Cheated Every Day

I had a terrible time with my pre-op diet which was three weeks of liquids and Protein bars. I did loose 10 pounds, but I should have doubled that. My doctor said that in surgery he could tell me liver was still enlarged. I would talk to your doctor, but I spent hours hating myself because I didn't complete the perfect pre-op diet. I have lost 20 pounds in the first 10 days post-op, I'd say that was successful! Someone told me that pre-op was like a train travelling at 100 MPH and crashing.....it was a devistating mistake. Post-op was like a train travelling 10 MPH, still a hitch, but the mistakes are far smaller and you are able to make small corrections to stay on track. I refuse to engage in the age debate, because really I think anyone can handle this procedure if you are prepared. Why wouldn't you want to he healthy for the rest of your life?! Best of luck! Even if you decide to postpone surgery this is only a minor hiccup. I hated the pre-op diet because if I could have successfully dieted before surgery I wouldn't have been 290 pounds!!!

    Tastes Have Changed...

Yes, completely! I cannot stand any sugar free products; pudding, jello, gatorade, crystal light. Everything tastes awful. I tried peanut butter and unfortunately still really like it. It is funny because I am now craving cheese and fish when pre-op I would have chosen chicken and something sweet everyday. Only a few more days and I can have cheese and eggs, I cannot wait!

    Nausea After New Food

I had a similar reaction to apple sauce, I think it was because I took too big a bite. I have had it since with no problems. It is really hard to slow down! What else have you been eating? I need ideas!

    6 Days Post-Op; Update!

I am trying to drink Water every 10 minutes, I set a timer and once it buzzes I sip a few times. I think today was the first day I'll reach 64 oz. It is really a full time job getting all of the liquids in! What other liquids have you tried? Congrats!!!

    6 Days Post-Op; Update!

That is awesome! Doesn't it solidify your decision? I definitely had buyers remorse for the first few days, I was in a lot of pain. I have been on the treadmill everyday (since Monday) for about 20-30 minutes. Today was the best day for sure. I'll be back to work on Monday!!! I am getting really sick of the Protein shakes, everything tastes so darn sweet. What else are you trying? I've been setting a timer and every 10 minutes take another few sips, that is the only way I've been able to keep up with the water.....64 oz is ALOT! My surgeon recommended blending up minestroni Soup and sprinkling parmesean on top of it. That was much more exciting then the shakes. I added a little unflavored Protein powder to make the soup better for me. I am excited about this journey! Congratulations!!!

    Feeling Ashamed....

I absolutely feel your pain. My surgery was 6 days ago and I couldn't tell any of my co-workers yet. I felt like I was weak and a failure, that they would see me as fat and lazy. I was able to talk to all of my family members and friends and surprisingly received a lot of positive support. I can tell you that one week later I know this was the best decision of my life!!! I have lost 15 pounds in the first week and I would have dieted for months to achieve that 15 pounds before surgery. I really believe this is the tool I need to keep myself healthy for the rest of my life. Tell only who you feel comfortable telling. Also, I saw a psychologist who specializing in eating disorders for a year before my surgery. I have alot of issues regarding my emotional overeating and while I am still a work in progress I didn't want to take the step of surgery only to sabatoge myself later! Best of luck on your journey, this process isn't for the weak!!! You can do it!

    Surgery Is Tomorrow Morning! :) :) :) :)

I had surgery last week and someone recommended biotene a mouth wash/spray that helps with dry mouth. That was a lifesaver since you can't drink for a while after surgery and my mouth was like the desert. I also brought a heating pad and gasx chewables. The chewables were awful and I threw them up, I really think the best medicine to get the gas out is walking, walking, walking. Good Luck! We'll be pulling for you!

    Cpap Question

I had a very similar experience and left the sleep study because of a panic attack in the middle of the night! I called my surgeon in a panic and she assured me that this happens to a lot of people. I was required to sign a waiver indicating that I had untreated sleep apnea, but that was fine. My surgery was last Thursday, I am 5 days out and it honestly was a fairly painless process. I would tell the anesthesiologist about your condition so they are aware. I would communicate with your doctors, I didn't want to get the CPAP knowing it wouldn't wear it anyway! You'll be fine! Congrats on the next step!

    Newbie

Welcome! We have a SoCal Sleeve Group. I went to a meeting before my surgery to talk to everyone about life after the sleeve. You have a great example in your mom, but it is worth it to do your research and give yourself the peace of mind. Congrats on your journey!
  19. My heartburn is horrible. My doctor prescribed prevacid but not until a week post operative. I am unable to sleep or keep Water down. Can I take Tums (crushed) or Mylanta? Thank you!
  20. Cheri- How will I be able to tell if the prevacid isn't working? So far I have been heartburn free, but I definitely want to keep a close eye on it. Thank you!

    Just Realized!

That is amazing! Doing good girl!
  22. I spoke with the doctor on call this morning and he said to empty the prevacid capsul into a ounce of water or protein shake....so far it has helped!

    Pre Operation Diet.

It really varies per surgeon. My doctor requires a 2-3 week protein bars (2) and protein shakes (3) diet pre-op. Then the day before surgery we are required to have only clear liquids....I am on clear liquids today. Yikes!
