    So Discouraged ....

I'm in WA State too and the first seminar I went to I found I didn't care for the Dr. For some reason he came across, at least to me, as a bit condescending. His approach seemed like he was trying to "save the world" from having any obese people. The surgeon I went with is a fast talker, straight to the point, but very very knowledgable. I had to lose 12% of my body weight which I have and then some - my surgery is scheduled for June 4th. What I am really happy with is all the care he takes with your pre-op results. I had a history of cancer and during my abdominal ultrasound it showed a liver hemangioma that I have had for quite some time - my Dr had me get my last CT scan and he sent it and the US for a 2nd opinion. I'm happy with my choice of Drs which is so important because as you get closer to surgery you seem to 2nd guess everything and that last thing you want to do is 2nd guess your surgeon!

    $65,000 Nightmare

I agree - contact your State Insurance Commissioner's office Most people don't realize that a lot of what they do if fight for you when it comes to insurance issues. I had a problem years ago with chemo treatments that my insurance refused to cover and which they did cover in the end after I went to the Insurance commissioner's office.

    Struggling With Doubts

WOW - your post is exactly the words I used on my Dr's Facebook Support Group page the day I got my surgery date. I too felt like a failure because I have to go the surgery route and then you feel like maybe you should give the diet another go. I just know that I can't do it anymore. I think what we are feeling is perfectly normal. People I have seen who have also experienced these feelings are the ones posting 6 months out that they wish they had done it sooner. I have to keep imagining what its going to be like to go back to shopping in a normal store and I want to own a pair of boots that I can zip up! If you keep your goals in mind its easier to deal with the apprehension.

    Talking Myself Out Of It!

I know what you are feeling and my surgery is more than a month away. In the end, its going to be the best thing we could ever do but you can't help but fear the pain and for me I also fear failure - what if I go through all of this and it doesn't work. What I am sure about though is that what I have been doing hasn't worked and if I want to be a healthy thinner person than this is what I need to do.
